LittleBigPlanet, sometimes abbreviated to LBP and developed under the title The Next Big Thing, is a puzzle platformer and world creation video game for the PlayStation 3, first announced on 7 March 2007, by Phil Harrison at the 2007 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, California. It is developed by Media Molecule, a British company founded in part by Rag Doll Kung Fu creator Mark Healey and published by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. The game revolves around the player's control of small avatars, known as Sackboys owing to their appearance, in a variety of platforming scenarios. Though the game features a set of pre-built levels for players to explore, of equal importance is the game's customisable nature, from altering the player's character and personal space, to building entirely new objects and levels, and then sharing and playing them online as part of the LittleBigPlanet community.

Physics-based platformer, the ability to create new levels and sharing them online... hmm, sounds a lot like N. And it is, spiritually, mostly like N. I picked up a copy of this game this Sunday, and the pictures, even the videos, don't do this game justice. I'm nearly done playing through the (regrettably short) built-in story levels, and each one presents a new and unique challenge: riding atop subway cars and avoiding electrified poles, flying from castle wall to castle wall, running as fast as possible away from a mentally unstable bride-to-be, and on and on. You collect stickers, new objects for your own levels, bubbles for points, and such. A lot of these are hidden very well within the levels, and a single run through a level will give you typically only 40-60% of the available items. Your character is very customizable-- new costumes, materials, etc. are scattered throughout the levels. Yes, you can have an afro ninja with a lizard tail and an Elizabethian dress. Level creation is a breeze, even fun. There's plenty of in-game tutorials to help you on the way. The controls are simplistic: analog stick to move around, X to jump, R1 to hold/pull/push things. The style is very cutesy, but it's not girly, either. I have to say that anyone that enjoys playing N would definitely enjoy playing this.
Oh yeah, there's up to 4 player multiplayer, with any mix of online/local players.
