Sig of the Week
Announcement
The below text was nice and touching at the time but now I'm here to say that it was bullshit and now I have some free time to finish this thing and I'm happy. Let's hope we get some interest submissions for the last week that never happened and for the best theme I think I've come up with thus far.
SOTW is closing early because southpaw cannot continue with it any further. Basically what this means is that nobody is the winner of Season IV. I apologize because I thought this was going to be one of the best SOTW season's and it has been. All of you dedicated imagers out there have proven to me that you really care about this contest, which makes me feel proud to be heading something that a group of members in the community are at least slightly passionate about. Unfortunately the events outside of the internet can get in the way of events happening on the internet and thus the events themselves suffer. I feel that my job should take precedence over SOTW, regardless of how sad I am to not feel up to continuing the final week of the season.
I'd like to extend my congratulations to capt_weasle and Yanni, who probably would have duked it out for points in the final weeks. You two may share the glory of first place. I'll just be humble and bow out. :P

Thank you once again to everyone who participated. SOTW is amazing and you guys are the reason why.

Themes for SOTW IV
Week 1 :: Vertical Sigs

Here we kick off the start of SOTW IV with a more unique look at signatures: the vertical sig. Last season we had someone submit a vertical sig and I thought it would make a cool theme so here it is. The rules for this week are slightly different. Instead of your sig being no larger than 600px wide and 200px tall, your sig must be no larger than 200px wide by 600px tall. Because of the change of dimensions, it may be a good idea to focus your image on a vertical subject rather than horizontal. Have fun!

Week 2 :: cats! Lions! SNOW LEOPARDS!

So this week's theme is a little strange but I thought we could all have some fun with it. I used to see a whole bunch of cat avatars and a few of you guys had cat signatures for a while. I'd like to extend that theme to SOTW. Your signature this week must have some sort of cat, whether it be a big cat or a little cat or an abstract take on the word "cat". Go wild.

Week 3 :: Light Trails

A camera is held, its shutter open, taking in the light. Long exposures allow it to create effects and "trails" of light that record where a light source was over a period of time. This week, we're going to be manipulating that light source. For this theme you'll need to create an image which features a trail of light from any source. If you want a challenge, try to manipulate your image so that the light trail makes an outline of a letter or an object or a symbol; though it is not a requirement for this week. Have fun and I hope to see some impressive sigs!

Week 4 :: Censorship

The theme for this week is completely up to you as to how you want to describe it through a signature. Censorship happens almost every day in countries throughout the world among everyone. Whether it be your parents censoring an adult book from you as a child or retouching photographs to censor out someone or something for whatever reason, depicting censorship will be your task this week. Good luck!

Week 5 :: Blimps // Zeppelins // Hot Air Balloons

This week we take to the skies and will be focusing on our modes of transportation that do not involve turbine engines and complimentary bags of peanuts. We've all seen well taken pictures of each of these three things this week, but now it's time to try and develop those pictures into something a little more interesting. I'm hoping this week everyone can make a noticeable edit to their original stock. You won't get extra points, but you may get extra votes! Have fun!

Week 6 :: Famous Artists, Tragic Deaths

This week is brought to you in part by rocket_thumped. It's also Halloween this week, so I thought the theme would be somewhat tied in. Basically this week is asking you to depict an artist of any sort (author, painter, musician, calligrapher, etc) who has died a tragic death. The person should be famous, as in, I should be able to do a Wikipedia search and read at least a paragraph about them. Other than that, it's up to you how you want to depict them: as they were from a portrait on the internet or by utilizing their writing/artistic/musical style within your sig. It may seem hard at first but I hope you can all meet the challenge in front of you. Good luck and happy Halloween!

Week 7 :: (International Klein) Blue

This week I realized we haven't done a colour as a theme this season. I don't remember if we've done a colour as a theme for every season, but I really like the sigs that everyone produces when we do use a colour as a theme. This week your challenge is to include the color Blue. Everyone will receive an extra 2 points if they manage to use International Klein Blue (hexadecimal: #002FA7 | R:0 G:47 B:167 | C:100% M:81% Y:34%). Sigs may be rejected this week because of standards. This means don't make a sig that is entirely IKB.

Week 8 :: Cardboard

Yup. Cardboard. No special rules or regulations this week. In fact, Rule 4 doesn't even apply this week.

Week 9 :: Diptych // Triptych

Here it is, folks. The final week of SOTW. It is some 3 odd months late but I think that you will all enjoy it. I have been wanting to do this theme since I started SOTW IV a while back and now that I have the chance to do it I'm very excited to see what you all will come up with. For those who do not know, a diptych is a work of art divided into 2 parts, while a triptych is a work of art divided into 3 parts. Each part is separate from the rest but is supposed to be viewed as equals. The pieces of the artwork make up a whole idea or concept. If you need ideas look up the terms on Google Images. Good luck and I hope to see some amazing signatures this final week.

---

Welcome to the 4th edition of the Signature of the Week contest, SOTW IV. For those who are unfamiliar with the SOTW, you'll figure out how it works within the next couple weeks. Hopefully some of the old veterans who have been with this contest since I began running it will join in and I'm looking forward to seeing new faces. This season's themes are dripping with fun and challenge, which should make this season a bit more interesting than previous seasons, I hope. Maybe we can get some really fresh ideas from some really unique themes. We'll see. I hope everyone has fun and good luck!

---

Point System
1st - 5 points
2nd - 4 points
3rd - 3 points
4th - 2 points
5th - 1 point
everyone else gets no points.

---

The Rules
1. PM your entries each week to southpaw with either a direct link to the image or the image itself. Only one entry per person.

2. You must have created the signature yourself. No stealing. If you think someone has stolen someone else's signature, PM me with your complaint, be sure to give me a link.

3. You must follow the theme for the week. No exceptions.

4. Your signature must not be any bigger than 600 pixels wide and 200 pixels tall. (Unless the theme allows otherwise.)

5. You cannot switch or substitute your signatures after they have been submitted.

6. All tie-breakers will be decided by three random users on IRC. If they entered a signature and it just so happens to tie, someone else will be substituted in their place to vote.

7. Your signature must be submitted by Wednesday at MIDNIGHT, PST (GMT -8) of that week. No exceptions.

8. Previously made signatures will not be allowed.

9. Advertising of any kind is not allowed.

10. You may not post the signature image you have made for the current week in your own signature that appears at the bottom of your posts. You may, however, post the signature image you have made for the current week within your own image thread. If you post the image in other people's image threads your signature will not be included for voting at the end of the week.

11. No offensive material of any kind. This means no use of derogatory terms, no nudity, no drugs, etc. If I find it offensive or think someone else will find it offensive I'll ask you to remake your entry.

12. VIOLATION OF THESE RULES MAY RESULT IN A BAN FROM COMPETING FOR ONE OR MORE WEEKS AT SOUTHPAW's DISCRETION

I talked to him about it and said it was fine. This is because of an outstanding lack of entries to MICC.

Oh southpaw, if you wish, I can make some prizes.

1st place: Custom Wallpaper + Sigatar Set + Ded Map
2nd place: Sigatar Set + Ded Map
3rd place: Ded Map

A Ded map really isn't much, though.

I forgot to add this in, but I don't know where to put it, so I'll just say here:

If anybody wants to chat with other imagers and such or would like help with their images or need ideas, etc., I've set up the channel #sotw on the IRC server for these very reasons.
