Anyway, if you play it, you get a two week trial, and honestly, it's fairly good. Sure, there's not as many people in the game.. but I just got my Sniper's License, so I can now carry Sniper Rifles. I mean seriously, there's licenses for everything. Anyway, if you play, I'm on Server Gemeni, and part of The New Coglomerate. I'm Snuggletummy, like usual. Also... this game is too good for pictures. Apparently, both of the current servers in the game are supposed to be combined sooner or later, so if you do play, expect GARGANTUAN battles and whatnot.Linelor wrote:Now most of you have probably heard of Planetside at some point or another as it's been out for a long time. The nice thing about the game is it really is a true MMOFPS game with everyone in a giant server waring over planets.
I'm not going to make this into a giant thread of info as the website is flash and has all the info about weapons and what not on it. So instead, I will give a little generalization and some of my experiences with the game.
Planetside is based around a massive war between 3 factions over many planets. The game is similar to battlefield in that there is tons of military equipment to use from jeeps to tanks to giant transport planes and mechs. Each of the factions has their own unique weapons and vehicles that they can use as well as some standard weapons that all 3 teams share. Most vehicles have multiple spots or need multiple people to be effective so teamwork is vital, but there are solo-able vehicles as well (Ex. The Terran Republic's heavy tank has a driver, a cannon gunner, and a machine-gunner who controls a dual 15mm chaingun on the top, but the smaller, less armed Lightning tank is controlled by a single person). All vehicles are usable alone but they become more effective with more people.
The three factions are:
The Vanu Sovereignty
These guys are basically like the "high tech" army using powerful laser weaponry and what not on their vehicles and weapons. Ex. Their heavy assault weapon is a "Lasher" that shoots orbs of energy that do high damage and lash out at nearby enemies doing damage.
The Terran Republic
These guys are more classic about their equipment. Basically their thing is if you put enough bullets in it, it will die. They use chainguns, flak weapons, and cannons on most of their stuff. Ex. Their heavy assault weapon is a chaingun.
The New Conglomerate
These guys are kind of a mixture of the other two in that they have standard weapons like shotguns and high tech stuff like railguns but they're pretty different. They're shotgun happy and most of their stuff uses shotguns, railguns, or rockets. Ex. Their heavy assault weapon is a fully automatic shotgun.
Here's the link to the website if you want some more info.

I played this game quite a long time and really enjoyed it. I'm not sure how it is now and I'll be downloading the trial to give it another go, but in the past it was amazing.
I've seen hundreds of troops (Including myself) dropped from transport planes called Galaxies onto enemy bases during raids that literally fill up the sky as well as defending bases and getting leaked intel to know they were headed for us and preparing a giant defense including a series of mines and bombs that killed over 30 people soon as they hit the ground.
I've also been in giant tank columns that can just decimate the enemy (Biggest I ever saw was a 107 tank raid), and giant swarms of planes (Defended against an air raid once, never been in one).
There's been some updates here recently with the Hacker certification and the Combat Engineer (Really neat because they lay mines, turrets, explosives, tank traps, and many other things). I'm not sure how the game is now, but I'm going to find out.
Anyone who would like to try the game out feel free to join me as there's a trial now.
Just get the station launcher from http://launcher.station.sony.com/ then go to Planetside on it and click to try it.
Note: If you've played the game before you will have to make a new station account for the trial to show up.
Well, it's updating for me and I'll update the thread with my take on it here in a bit and I'll be happy to answer and questions that yall might have.
If it's any count and some FP members get in I might re-activate my old account and make a Facepunch outfit.
Edit:
Just a quick update, it's not complete since apparently they haven't updated it with the new vehicles and certifications and what not but this shows a lot more about the equipment and what not.

Ok, considering I'm not in the mood to type this, as I'm not feeling well and my hands are freezing, I'll just quote this from some guy on Facepunch.
