Sig of the Week
Announcement
Here it is. The last week of SOTW.
I just wanted to say that this has been my favourite season thus far. I have been excited every week to see so many submissions as well as great deals of improvement from those less experienced and some of the best signatures I've seen from the veterans to date. I hope that we all have had fun (I know I have, competing with Yanni has been entertaining and delightful) and enjoyed each week for what it was.
A final thank you goes out to the people who voted, whether it was every week or just one week. Even if you don't compete you still helped keep the contest running.
Congratulations and good luck in the final week! Hope to see you guys for another season of SOTW soon!

Themes for Season 3
Week 1 - Math

Oddly enough, the day this thread was started was also International Maths Day. Math covers a lot of ground and I hope that it opens up some interesting ideas to be used in a signature. Because there is so much you can do with math it should be pretty easy to do a little research and find something amazing you can incorporate into your signature for this week. Good luck and I hope to see many entries!

Week 2 - Stuffed Animal(s)

It's common these days for people to have that one stuffed animal that they always remember and always loved, as though all the love that they ever received from their parents/guardians was imbued into a single item. Or maybe they just had the stuffed animal around so long that they became attached to it. Nevertheless, this week is about /your/ stuffed animal(s), so if you can, try and get a picture of it/them and make a sig. Good luck and I can't wait to see what you all come up with!

Week 3 - Pink

That's right! PINK! I don't think this color is used often enough in sigs. People tend to think of pink as a feminine color, and while there may be some truth to that, pink can also enhance the visual aspect of your image. Bright, fluorescent colors bring a lot of light and possible contrast that you may not get otherwise.
This week's theme doesn't require the entire signature to be pink, or for the main focus of the sig to be pink, just so long as the color pink is visible and somewhat attention-grabbing. Good luck!

Week 4 - Carnival/Circus

This is probably going to produce some of the most odd signatures that SOTW will have ever seen, but I think it's going to be an interesting week. When a carnival or circus comes to town you know that you are going to see some things that seem almost paranormal or weird. Then again, it could also be an intriguing adventure through a fantasy village filled with delights beyond your imagination, one filled with acrobatics and feats that look superhuman. Whatever you decide to do this week, try to make it funky, enjoyable and overall make us want to keep looking at your image more and more the longer we stare!

Week 5 - Architecture

I love old buildings and the way in which buildings are constructed. My stepmom is an architect and although I never really understood the whole procedure, I love the finished product of a really beautiful building. Whether you choose modern architecture, ancient architecture or something between, images for this week should highlight the design of spectacular building. Good luck!

Week 6 - Children's Books

This week we'll take our attention off the architecture of buildings and focus on the artwork of children's books. The entire genre of children's books is such a diverse and wonderfully imaginative field. Doubtless you've all had your favourite books as a little kid, so why not bring that out into your signature this week? As always I look forward to your submissions and hope you have a great time creating something that you feel attached to from when you were a child. Good luck!

Week 7 - Graffiti Art

I think that the wonderful world of Graffiti Art is something that we should not overlook as it presents us with a new view of how art can be created and shown. Graffiti Art isn't meant to be purchased with money, rather it is meant to be sold to the eyes alone. I hope you can all find some amazing graffiti art images and develop them into amazing works of art for this week. Hope you guys have a lot of fun this week!

Week 8 - Lens Flare / Balloon

Yup, that's right. Lens Flare. I don't care what the image is this week, as long as you happen to include the greatest technique ever known to imagers. If you don't know what Lens Flare is or where to find it in your image editing program, there's a handy website called Google that I discovered the other day that will help you.
Oh, also, your image must include a red or blue balloon.

Week 9 - Whatever

It's almost hard to believe that it's been 8 weeks since I started Season 3 and now it is coming to a close. But alas this is the truth of the matter. I wanted to show my appreciation to all the people who competed and took part in this by making the final week's theme "Whatever".
I want you guys to come up with whatever kind of signature you want. Improvise it on the spot or spend a while on a single idea, the choice is yours. I just want you guys to have some fun creating something you enjoy with little thought to theme and more thought to production. Good luck and hopefully SOTW will be back sooner than you think!

---

A warm welcome for you as we begin Season 3 of the Signature of the Week (SOTW) contest! I'm proud to say that this contest is one of my favourite things to run and I'm extremely happy to have found the time to be able to do it again. Like always, this contest is open to all image creators of all levels and is a way to help you get better at making sigs. I hope to see a whole lot of you compete because I know that all of you can come up with some amazing images. Remember to read the rules and most importantly have a lot of fun!

---

Point System
1st - 5 points
2nd - 4 points
3rd - 3 points
4th - 2 points
5th - 1 point
everyone else gets no points.

---

The Rules
1. PM your entries each week to southpaw with either a direct link to the image or the image itself. Only one entry per person.

2. You must have created the signature yourself. No stealing. If you think someone has stolen someone else's signature, PM me with your complaint, be sure to give me a link.

3. You must follow the theme for the week. No exceptions.

4. Your signature must not be any bigger than 600 pixels wide and 200 pixels tall.

5. You cannot switch or substitute your signatures after they have been submitted.

6. All tie-breakers will be decided by three random users on IRC. If they entered a signature and it just so happens to tie, someone else will be substituted in their place to vote.

7. Your signature must be submitted by Wednesday at MIDNIGHT, PST (GMT -8) of that week. No exceptions.

8. Previously made signatures will not be allowed.

9. Advertising of any kind is not allowed. Period. The only exception is if the theme of the week has something to do with advertising.

10. You may not post the signature image you have made for the current week in your own signature that appears at the bottom of your posts. You may, however, post the signature image you have made for the current week within your own image thread. If you post the image in other people's image threads your signature will not be included for voting at the end of the week.

11. No offensive material of any kind. This means no use of derogatory terms, no nudity, no drugs, etc. If I find it offensive or think someone else will find it offensive I'll ask you to remake your entry.

12. VIOLATION OF THESE RULES MAY RESULT IN A BAN FROM COMPETING FOR ONE OR MORE WEEKS AT SOUTHPAW's DISCRETION

---

An overall score sheet and a weekly score sheet will be compiled so that everybody can see how many points they have accumulated overall and each week. Good luck and have fun.

So start making those sigs and PM them to me!

Please be sure to let others know that if you made a sig for them and that sig is being entered into the SOTW to not use it in their signature. It's a form of advertising and I may disqualify your sig from that week's voting thread.

This rule applies to you as it does to everybody else.

Note: You don't have to use your stuffed animal, but it would be cool if you did!
