Apologies if this has been done before.

Now, when you list your three, try to include some cool stuff like your history with the game, why you like it, etc, so this thread does not just change into a large list. Also, these don't have to be your TOP THREE, you can just slap down some memorable games if you like.

I played the hell out of this game when i was little. Every Saturday my dad would go to the video store to rent movies, and i would rent this game every week without fail until he eventually just bought it for me. Awesome platforming with terrifying bosses and excellent graphics for its time.

-----------------
Image

Out of all the FF games i have played, this one was the most enjoyable for me. All the characters are incredibly in depth and full of personality, and the entire game was enjoyable from start to finish.

A fantastic FPS with incredible atmosphere, i enjoyed every moment of this game.

Alright here goes.

Image

Easily my favourite Pokémon game of the series. Silver just seemed to do it right for me, and because I remembered it the most (I was only 7 when I got Blue, while by the time Ruby came out I was 13. Silver landed when I was 10 and that was perfect timing. Your life wasn't complete if you didn't have a Pokémon game back then).

---------------

Image

Well, what can I say. My favourite PC game of all time now which successfully claimed the top spot from Counter-Strike: Source because of the sheer fun factor with TF2. CS may have the hundreds of modifications, but for sheer laughs you can't do much better than TF2.

---------------

Image

My all time favourite game. I love the original Sonic and this one was even better. I still enjoy playing it now! It's just that fun.

Lovable childish fun. Hours of entertainment. Classic Mario intuitiveness and creativity.

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Amazing game. Amazing music. Amazing graphics. A piece of art. Amazing. Amazing. Amazing game.

My three favorite games:

a) The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past!
http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/4350/223990.jpg

^Awesome wallpaper.

Why this is the greatest game ever: One Part Nostalgia and Eight Parts amazing story, game design, weapons, dungeons (My fave is the Ice Palace) and replayability. I've beaten this game every year since I was four.

b) Starcraft.
Image

^Because Terrans are my class.

Why this is the second greatest game ever: It's a game enjoyable to all skill levels, that can be punishing if you don't know what to expect and beautiful if you do. And it takes place in Space.

c) Team Fortress 2.
http://img162.imageshack.us/img162/7236/337417.jpg

^Another amazing wallpaper.

Why this is the third greatest game ever: Once again, enjoyable to all skill levels. The best multiplayer in the world, lots of depth in almost every class, and nine total classes make it like nine games in one. AND I own the Metanet Server, so it would be counter-intuitive to not shout out.

<3.

:: Wonderboy in Monster World

Gameplay Footage.

One of the first RPG style games I ever played, and contender for greatest Mega Drive title of all time. In essence, a 2D platform game, the RPG elements added a surprising amount of depth. Charming visuals and varied landscapes and monsters made for a very satisfying experience. One of my fondest memories from my gaming childhood.

-

Image

:: Silent Bomber

Gameplay Footage.

An often overlooked PS1 gem. Played like a cross between Bomberman and Metal Gear Solid boss battles. A purely arcade based 'shooter'. You could either plant bombs or launch them using an intuitive lock on system. Relentless quick-fire play, gorgeous visuals for the time, and some very cool bomb upgrades. Really good fun, and one of the more unique experiences available on the console.

SB sits just under Metal Gear solid as my second favourite PSX game.

-

Image

:: Evil Zone

Gameplay Footage - Special Moves.

Another overlooked and under-appreciated PS1 title. The game was pretty much panned by critics, but held a very loyal and passionate cult following, and for very good reason. The hugely unique combat system used a single button for attack, and one more for guard. Pressing the attack button alone would fire a string of mid ranged fire ball style attacks that varied in style from character to character (gun shots, wand blasts, sword slashes), while pressing it in conjunction with a direction would unleash a more powerful assault each with its own very unique animation.

Each character had semi-automated attacks that launched with a throw type manoeuvre, and entered into a short cut-sequence (character spitting into four and attacking target, slashing a hole in the air and pushing a sword through it to have it tear another hole in front of the target and strike them, etc...). These animations added a very dramatic feel to battles, and never got tedious as they were so much fun.

If characters rushed at each other at the exact same time, they would start running along side each other. Whoever tapped their attack fastest would floor their opponent at the end of the dash.

A three tier charge system allowed players to power up an ultra attack. The gauge would charge faster the more health your character had. Once charged, you could unleash a super powerful move with a cool animation sequence. Most battles were a race to launch this attack, with either landed hits charging your bar, or holding down the button and charging on the spot (a la Dragon Ball), but it never felt boring as each move was so unique and there were enough characters on offer to keep things feeling fresh every time.

Highly recommended.

Favorite game of my favorite series. A third person shooter doesn't get any better than this: unique weapons, hilarious storyline, and a kickass multiplayer packed right in.

Jak and Daxter (Series, excluding Jak X)
Image

I love this whole adventure series too much. The only one I didn't like was Jak X, which was a combat racing game. I prefer the platforming series over anything else. (Jak and Daxter, Jak II, Jak 3 are all amazing).
"The success of the Jak and Daxter series resulted in Guinness World Records awarding the series 7 world records in the Guinness World Records: Gamer's Edition 2008. These records include, "First Seamless 3D World in a Console Game", "Most Successful Single Format Platform Series", and "Largest Number of Cutscenes in a Platform Game" for Jak II, in which there are 131 cutscenes, 51 in the first act alone. In Jak 3, there are 213 cutscenes, with 20 in the first act alone."

Kingdom Hearts (I & II)
Image

The RPG game, IMO. Love this series, and really can't wait for the third. If you guys haven't played this, I really recommend you do. The storyline is amazing, characters have depth, and the whole RPG system works amazingly well (what do you expect, it's by Square Enix :D ).

Remember... I have MANY MANY MANY MORE, but due to this topic.. well.

1. Doom

Image

I've been playing the game since it first came out, it's one of my all time favorites and still is.

2. Shadow Warrior

Image

Remember Duke Nukem 3D? This game was made by 3D Realms too, and honestly, as much as I fucking love Duke Nukem 3D, I still think this one takes the cake for being the most badass. I mean, you can stick people with explosives, drive vehicles and cut people in half with a samurai sword, not the fact that you get a rocket launcher that fires Rockets, Heat Seeking Rockets, and a Nuke.

3. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening.

Image

I personally think this is one of the best Zelda games out there, coupled with A Link to the past, that is. I used to play this on my Gameboy Pocket, and I still have the thing in my garage.. the game is still in it too.

Super Metroid
Come on, the game is freakin' glitchier than fuck. And fuck is pretty fucked up.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Awesome graphics and gameplay, but I got the lame PS3 version that you couldn't mod. I ran out of things to do in about 3 months.

Sauerbraten
Not sure if this counts, but it's a freeware FPS. Awesome modibility, and pretty good graphics. Level editor takes the cake though.

Sorry that I don't have pictures.

My turn! :D

1. Smash Brothers Brawl

Image

First of all the idea for this game was genius from the start. But the installment of Brawl was just too amazing. The graphics, game play and characters are all amazing. Me and my friends have tallied over 7,000 matches and almost 1,000 hours of play. o_o

2. Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door

Image

Its a perfect RPG that has a fun story and clever mechanics. I love the simple number system and the little action commands you do to do more damage, so more skill is involved. Its also a game that you can beat without doing hours of tedious leveling up.

3. Tales of Symphonia

Image

Me, my brother and sister played this game so much. Great gameplay, tons of gameplay options and a freaking fabulous story makes this game one of my favorites.

My favorite video games are
Sonic CD.
Image
When I was younger and I had a Mega CD, I loved the music and the time travel, and I play it on an emulator to this day. The JP/EU soundtrack is better though. :P
Super Mario Bros. 3.
Image
It's IMO the best Mario Game ever released and it provided me hours of fun when I was younger.
Chip's Challenge.
Image
Very good puzzles there, and I still enjoy making new levels.

Honourable mention: Sonic 2, I like this game as well, and its betas.

This game is my favourite RPG ever. Most of you will be familiar with the setting, what with (shitty) fallout 3. The differences is that fallout's graphics use sprites, not 3d models, and the gameplay is slower in pace than that of fallout three. There are so many reasons why this game is awesome and these are just a few:

-The length of the game is perfect, as it is not so drawn out that you bore of it, but it is just long enough that you start to feel for your character and those that he/she meets in the desolated world of fallout.

-The Character creation system was stunning at the time of release, and still is, the design has influenced so many RPG's. With a brilliant selection of skills and attributes that define the way you play, as well as gaining perks that shape your character, with such variety that every playthrough will feel entirely different.

-ULTRA VIOLENCE! This has been toned down in fallout 3 >:(
luckily the original fallout was back in the days when games were manly, so you can melt peoples skin off, shoot chunks of your enemies torso off, and hit people in the groin with a sledgehammer.

-There are drugs which enhance your characters peformance for a limited time, making you double your strength, or make you much more agile. But using drugs means that your stats are constantly changing, and if your character gets addicted to drugs, its going to be tough to fight without them.

-The storyline. Its amazing, i'll just leave it at that.

-There is so much more stuff that I haven't mentioned, like the side quests, the originality of the enemies, the deep locations, the travel system, the vast array of weapons, the way your choices effect the ending.... just play it... its sooo much better than Fallout 3.

Portal

quotes
"I wuv my weighted companion cube! <3" -Aphex
"There will be cake" - GLADoS
"beep!" -A turret
Image
Portal is my favourite puzzle game, mainly because of the unique idea which is backed up by a very powerful (if a little short) storyline. Another thing that i love is the black comedy of it, I laughed a hellova lot when I played through it. The game also is powerful emotionally speaking, as I found it easier to kill a little sister in bioshock than to burn my weighted companion cube in Portal.

Did i mention the brilliant gameplay?

theres so many good things about this game....

other fav games

Half life
Team fotress 2
COD4
Chrono trigger
Audisurf
Secret command
Mass effect

And you know that opinion is just that and that many people who love Fallout absolutely despise the tone of Fo3?

Besides, this really isn't the place for arguing what games are better, this is a light hearted trip down nostalgia lane, fun, and I'm sure most of us would prefer it if it could be kept that way.

Tunco you never cease to amuse me. Fallout 3 may be awesome (Especially awesomer on PC when you can mod the repair to make more sense) but the original games are still better.

Eitherway:

Garry's mod, Dungeon Keeper, UT2K4.

Let's see then:

Sonic the Hedgehog 2:
Image

The game I grew up with. Yeah, I have a lot of fond memories of this game, even if it was my sister's and I never got to play it often...

Kinda a sad fact, but my first word (the game came out on the same year I was born) was actually "Gey-ga", an attempt to copy the word "SEGA" that was said every time the game started up. Sad, I know, but my sister played it a lot when I was very young...

Pokemon Gold:
Image

Gold and Silver were and still are my favourite games in the Pokemon series, which is why I'm looking forward to the new Heart Gold and Soul Silver remakes. Me and my brother both got one of these; my brother got Silver and I got Gold. Sadly, my Gold version disappeared about 5-6 years ago... Of which recently I got Crystal version. Only to find out the internal battery needs to be replaced...

Sonic the Hedgehog (2006):
Image

... Fooled you, didn't I.

My real third favourite is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time:

Maybe a bit cliché, since this is considered to be one of the best games of all time, but what the hey? I got this as part of the Zelda: Collectors Edition that came with the Gamecube, and it has addicted me to the Legend of Zelda games. Brilliant story, great gameplay, mind-blowing graphics (at the time, of course), this game is amazing.

Funny I say "amazing"; that could be seen as a pun for the DAMN WATER TEMPLE. Which isn't as bad as people make it out to be :D

The water temple is the ejaculate of pain and awful making copies, if you know what I mean.
