Yes, it's Linux. Ubuntu, if anyone's wondering. GNOME-Do (an app launcher) is running in the background, which I find to be a lot faster than clicking on icons. Which also has the added benefit of leaving a clean desktop. It's also got Compiz installed, which gives all those nice little desktop-cube and window-wobbling effects you can find on YouTube.

Nice. I have Ubuntu, but never used it. Looks very usable though, I might change my mind.russianzilla wrote:Yes, it's Linux. Ubuntu, if anyone's wondering.

I made some effort to see the good stuff on ubuntu and try and use it for some days... but I don't really like how it organizes stuff. And installing things looks like I'm on DOS again (I couldn't even install Tremulous on it :/).Tunco123 wrote:Nice. I have Ubuntu, but never used it. Nice desktop.
IMO, has no chance against Windows 7, but seems equal or better than OS X.

Actually, for most programs, it's as easy, if not easier, to install something than Windows. A lot of the time, when you need something, you can find it in the package manager (Synaptic in Ubuntu), and when it's in there you can just click a checkbox and Apply and it'll install. If not, most programs also have .deb files that you can just run and they'll install themselves. Personally, it's been rare for me that I actually have to go and compile something, but I guess your mileage will vary based on whatever you're installing.Donfuy wrote:And installing things looks like I'm on DOS again (I couldn't even install Tremulous on it :/).

Also, I actually have the Windows 7 RC installed, and it's pretty nice, although I mostly use it for iTunes. But this is probably all off-topic.

Seconded. I used to use those icons. Also, I <3 the giant clock/date thing on the desktop. What is that, Rainlender or Samurize?Tunco123 wrote:That's a Vista?nnn wrote:Yes, it's Vista.

I'm using a visual style called Lumen, the thing at the bottom is RocketDock with some nice icons & the album artwork is CAD. I made the clock/date with Samurize.

He's implying that Mac users like to keep their desktops tidy since they value hardware and OS appearance so much. It's true, actually. I've never seen a messy OS X desktop before.Wight wrote:Eh...buh...what?nnn wrote:@incluye:

I wouldn't say yours is that messy, although personally I'm not a fan of having folders and icons all over the place.

well I won't show you my desktop (mainly cause I'm at my gparents for the next two weeks and I'm partway through backing up sorting and formatting my apple... but my desktop is messy for a few weeks then I dump it all in a folder... thus the cycle goes.Zilla wrote:He's implying that Mac users like to keep their desktops tidy since they value hardware and OS appearance so much.
