Donfuy wrote:I never played Melee, what are the differences in terms of speed (comparing to SSB and SSBB) and attacks?
melee is faster, more combo-based and more technical. The key differences are:
* less characters, but some characters that are not in brawl. Slightly different movesets for some characters, and many moves have different properties
* less stages in melee, but many melee stages are not in brawl. I prefer the brawl selection but prefer melee's final destination.
* more detailed visuals and better music in brawl
* you can't modify controls except for toggling rumble
* different 1 player modes and items, but who cares
* In general, better character balance in melee (debated, but an objective look at the character spread of results suggests this)
* there's a lot more hitstun so you can follow up an attack with another to chain them together (combos)
* there's shieldstun so shielding is a risk/reward type mechanic rather than a riskless get-me-out-of-trouble move
* there's less lag, less freeze-frames and faster fall speed (so it's much faster)
* airdodges make you helpless (except for tethers) but push you in a direction for recovery or whatever
* tethers can grab any surface, and are unaffected by edgehogging
* you don't magnet onto a ledge when you up-b past it, you need to time it to grab the ledge at the end of your recovery
* you can't grab the ledge when facing the other direction
* the c-stick always smashes when on the ground, regardless of control stick direction
* there are several differences in mechanics: there's no footstooling, glide tossing or clinging to walls and there's techniques that let you drop during a jump with some characters called doublejump canceling,a technique that cancels lag, a technique to edgehog while rolling even when not physically on the edge and a technique to slide along the ground called wavedashing.
* The buffering mechanic (that allows you to press a button before the move can execute and the game will execute it for you at the first opportunity), does not exist in melee
* stale moves (doing the same move over and over), has a damage reduction in melee rather than a knockback reduction

after playing brawl you may find some aspects somewhat restricting, too fast or too powerful, but as condog said, they're different games and should be treated as such.

mycheez: if you're ok with yoshi's island you're obviously ok with walk-off edges, so what's wrong with castle siege? (one of my favourites actually).
I agree. Frickin lip!

And you do realize that there are two Yoshi's Island.

One is the stupid one with a walkoff: http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stages/i ... 107a-l.jpg
One is the balanced one which I think mycheez is talking about: http://brawl.files.wordpress.com/2007/0 ... island.jpg

he listed both.
Stages: Final Destination, Battlefield, Smashville, Yoshi's Island, Delfino Plaza, Lylat Cruise, Melee Yoshi's Island, either Pokemon Stadium, and Corneria will work.

If you are referring to Brawl, then thats wrong.
Whenever you are walking in a direction and use the C-stick forward it will do a forward tilt, or when running it will do a dash attack.

As for Melee or SSB, I pretty much forgot everything about them.

um, thats what I meant. In brawl it can also do tilts, in melee it can't I thought it was clear because he's already played brawl, he should know that. Although perhaps I should have specified that because I forgot about dash attacks too.

Yesterday, I was on a roll with Ike. 13 match winning streak, until I hit the wrong button for recovery. -.-

I'm gathering footage so that I can make a combo video for YouTube. ^^

Anyone wanna help me with this?

Just getting some good footage of epic combos and stuff to put into a big collaboration, called a combo video. Search em up on YouTube for some examples. They show a player's skill with a character(s).

I'm pretty sure skyray knew what a combo video was. We still don't actually know what you need help with.

get a capture card or use a dvd recorder to get the footage on your computer, then cut it up and add effects with the best software within your budget. VirtualDub is free.

People also usually add non-smash footage and music, capture some from a fire emblem game or something and OCRemix is a good source for more energetic video game remixes

I know what a combo video is, I was wondering what kind of help you were looking for, I recommend not using online footage, because just about everybody will complain about it, use quick transitions, nobody really cares about the video effects as long as you look like you put some time into it, and didn't make it in Windows Movie Maker. Put some cool credits in, showing yourself getting owned by your opponents is usually a cool, humble way to credit them. Also, use clips longer than 3 or 5 seconds, getting in 2 or 3 hit "combo's" aren't very impressive and not very fun to watch. Dealing a lot of damage in a short period of time, or taking away a full stock off your opponent without getting hurt is usually what people are looking for in combo video's.

Yeah, I have some good replays of me doing that type of stuff with Ike. I took out a whole opponent's stock in about 8 seconds and only took 4 damage. There's this guy who awesome with, yes, Captain Falcon, and in most of his videos, he replays the epic thing that he did. He will usually replay it a couple times, then play it a fourth time slowed down so you can see the epicness. Usually something like a Falcon Punch into a sweetspot F-air.

There's also a funny replay I have, on the same match I had where I spiked the person like 4 times into the water, but they still floated back up each time. So just tell me when you can get on Wi-Fi so I can brawl you, please.

I get annoyed when somebody replays the same clip over and over again, haha.
If you want to brawl, message me, but i have to leave in about 2 hours.

Sweet vids Spudz, but with Marth, that was some buttsuck(wierd) playing. Also, I'm not sure I can hold a good stat page anymore. Anyone want to take hold of the metaphoric reigns?

I might be able to get a mod to change the creator of this tthread to someone else, so that they can edit the first post. If you've looked at metanovel, Rikaninja started it but now universezero is the creator.

Onfortunately, there are still some people *wave* who don't have a Wii, but are still hooked on Melee.I'd love to join youse guyses and all, but I can't.

lame, huh.

Anyway, whenever I go over to a friends house and play Brawl, I pown everyone with Marth. When I say pown, I mean the traditional 3v1 win with no deaths for me (I'll admit, my friends aren't fantastic, but still...).

After the game, all of my friends said, "Oh, yeah. Well, you used Marth, and, like, anyone could win with him, so you suck!"

Now, I've beat the game with Marth more times than any other character, however, I can beat the game with most any character, an have simply come to the conclusion that I am best with Marth.

I'd like to get some outside opinion on the situation. Should I keep playing with Marth, or should I rape my friends with some other character?

PS: If you ever get bored with your main character, practice a lot with some character like Jigglypuff or Peach, and then the next time you play with a friend play as that character, after getting laughed at by your friend(s) crush them, and then laugh at them and say 'Wow, I can beat you with Jigglypuff! You really suck at SSB!'
Mwaahaahaahaa!!! Welcome to my dial-up LAIR!!

I'm actually pretty good with Jigglypuff, so yeah.

Trivia question: When you mix mario and lucas you get Lucario.

What happens when you mix Captain Falcon, Jigglypuff, Pikachu, and Ness?

The SBM that arranges these lists are still completely biased and wont move Yoshi up no matter what. >_>

But yah I think Yoshi should be up above Bowser at least.
