I thought his speech was very interesting, at times surprisingly direct, and generally free of bullshit. One of his best.

Well, he forgot the second line of the oath... but other than that it was great. He has a way with words.

Freakin' amazing. I'm simply in awe of this country. All this time, I had wondered if we'd ever see a president again who wasn't an old white guy - And here we are. I'm so glad and proud of America that we could follow in the footsteps of Germany and South Africa. Here - all this time - I thought that Dave and I were the only ones who were down with the swirl, but I guess all of America is now, too.

That wasn't my take. It looked to me like he memorized the oath beforehand (which, no doubt, he did), and then when Roberts read it wrong, he was tripped up. Roberts said the 'faithfully' in the wrong place, and Obama attempted to mesh what he had memorized with what Roberts said.GTM wrote:Well, he forgot the second line of the oath... but other than that it was great. Also, on the first line, Roberts paused slightly, and Obama interpreted that as his time to repeat.
Of course, it's possible he was just nervous. You've got to remember--he was somewhat in fear for his life the whole time.

I think it's more because it was the Justice's first time swearing in a new president. But I think it was nice to have a tiny break in all of the seriousness.flagmyidol wrote:Of course, it's possible he was just nervous. You've got to remember--he was somewhat in fear for his life the whole time.

I was quite moved by the speech. Obama's comments on the confidence of the American people were particularly inspirational.

While he was delivering it? "Hurry up, my feet hurt."
I suppose it was a good speech, but I only half heard it.

This is bigger news, in my opinion. Speeches are speeches.

Actually, he's already suspended trials at that maximum security prison in Cuba, and he's making plans to close it down after 16 months. Guantanamo Bay? You guys really know how to get off topic...
Anyway, Obama's closing of Guantanamo Bay was definitely a good start. I thought it was interesting that some of the people there are going to be outright released, and that some of the war criminals that were tortured will have all charges dropped.

Obama may support hope, but i propose DESPAIR!!!! seriously though, hope is pointless. if you have something you want, go out and flipping earn it. don't just wait and hope. hoping does absolutely nothing. Obama has a bit too modern of a mindset for me.
