I don't understand how anyone can argue that FireRed or LeafGreen weren't better than Red or Blue.

It would be like remaking Super Mario World with additional levels. The levels wouldn't fit or be as good as the originals, and therefore, even though it included the entire original game and therefore could not be argued against as being worse, nobody would like it as much. They took a perfect game and added features nobody wanted and graphics nobody needed.

I liked it a lot. Of course, I liked the show at the time, and it was cool to have a game that paralleled that show.

Incidentally, your avatar isn't showing up for me at all, techno.

For persons who played LeafGreen first, blue was clearly bad, horribly bad. (I'm saying it by my own experience)

personally, im not a big fan of yellow, but it did have its moments. the pokegear in g/s/c was a very cool touch. as someonechase said, a GSC remake on the new engines would be thoroughly enjoyable, perhaps with some re-arranging of the towns and the layout of a few routes. i think the reason people tend to like the first and second gen games is the feeling of nostalgia given by them. people going back there from the newer games, however, see them as ugly, badly designed horrors. i personally dont mind the old games, but whenever i go back to them they feel a little jarring. this is, of course, allowable when its 3am and im playing on an old, dying gbc, but you should understand where im coming from. games that actually feel fluid on the gbc are the last gen zelda games (ages and seasons). i believe the pokemon designers took some cues from these games, some of the towns in r/s/e feel like those towns. [/ot]

and nosepass (the nose rock thing above) is personally one of my least favourite pokemon. this just shows what a matter of opinion the "quality" of pokemon is, across generations.
also, typhosion is awesome, and larvitar is a badass. i agree totally about the overall good feel of the 2nd gen games, but i dont think the 3rd gen should even be labled anywhere near "shitty".

no-one can argue with that.

i played the shit out of blue after i got it when i was in 4th grade, and just recently started leafgreen, and to me it's basically the same game, only better, due to the graphics update and general playability upgrade.

I remember when my mom bought me a Gameboy Color, and got me Pokemon Gold.
I was ecstatic. I almost cried when my dad accidentally pressed new game when I had a 50+ group of Pokemon. And then I restarted and got Feraligatr to max level. It was my addiction of the early 2000's. Then I gave it away to my cousin. And never touched the game again.

@palemoon: semi-agree. the town layouts still piss me off :P but i love the UI.

Pfft, Digimon? You loser...

I don't see how people can say that R/B/Y are better than the other generations. Sure, they have some nostalgic value, but the later generations have improved gameplay and better graphics, as well as myriad useful little alterations from the first gen. Plus, imo, the legendaries got better with each generation. I also like how there are more legendaries for each generation. :D

But Blue and Red were far from perfect! It was massively slow and grinding at parts and the menus were awful to navigate. I certainly agree that Pokemon was generally better when it was simpler but I'm always going to prefer colour over black and white and the ability to run over being forced to meander everywhere.

Shame most GSC carts don't work anymore...the internal battery that controls the time and date and keeps them ticking is breaking in most games right about now. This leaves your game operational, but unable to save.

Why a GSC remake would be great, considering the references in DP and the coding that Johto is a possible location for a Poke to be caught from.

Blissey with 700+ HP = Win.

I've always been wishing for a new school style 2D pokemon game (kind of like Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald or FireRed/LeafGreen), where you can travel to all the regions so far (Johto, Kanto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh), and you can actually catch all of the pokemon. That would be insane (for me at least).

But my favorite game was probably Emerald.
