Well, since you can't play it on PC, I guess you don't have much of a choice, but that was actually a really bad decision.Universezero wrote:Since I don't have a gaming PC, I've just gone and bought The Orange Box for PS3 this afternoon. Shall finally get to play TF2. ^_^
Valve didn't do the PS3 port, some random EA hired devs did, and they did a piss-poor job from everything I've heard. Not to mention you don't get any of the class updates or hats or basically anything that has gave this game its 4 year long legs. I'd actually be surprised if more than a few hundred people still play on PS3.
HL2 and Portal should be a good time for you though :D

Not sure if I like the new interface yet, but I'll get used to it. I've been playing the bot games alone for several weeks (or months) now, and I'm glad to see Valve take another step further with cp_dustbowl.
Also, it's $10 right now, so you should get it while you can. :D

What's all this about dustbowl? I do not have access to the game at the moment.

Before the update, bots could only be used on koth_sawmill, nucleus, (and I think) viaduct. King of the Hill was the only mode they knew. However, with this new update, the AI also understands cp_dustbowl, so you can now play offline with bots on that map. AI can be changed from easy, to medium, to hard, depending on your preferred challenge.SlappyMcGee wrote:Techno wrote:How're you likin' the new Mac-update guys?

I do like the step the TF2 Team is taking with this.

Orange- N cannot be spoken, or even thought about in my household. If my parents ever found out that I have played N since the cleansing, my life would be ruined. I keep the game in a multi-passworded .rar on a USB flash drive inside a locked boron alloy container that requires two keys to open (I keep one under the 64th hammer in my piano, and the other one in a small section of removable ceiling in the corner of the attic) hidden in a wall compartment lined with aluminium foil to prevent sonar detection behind my 375 kg cupboard, which is bolted to the floor - the only way to reach it is to abseil outside the fourth floor window and use a screwdriver to unfasten the screws holding the secret brick in place on the opposite side of the wall, but the screwdriver must be a specific type like the one I own, since if any other screwdriver comes into contact with the screws, the entire building will explode, as will a seperate charge placed inside the boron alloy container, rendering the USB useless. Even once the container is retrieved, attemping to open it without the arming pin in place (which is kept inside the battery compartment of my Maglite) will cause the water reservoirs lining the container to burst and react with the caesium lining, causing the container to burst into flames - the only way to prevent this is to use the arming pins to shut off the reservoirs with a sliding steel door. The USB itself contains an accelerometer linked to an explosive charge, meaning that if the USB detects its own movement speed as being greater than 5 cm/s, it will explode - any person attempting to steal it would have to move at a uselessly slow speed. Once plugged into a computer, the USB will upload a ghost virus onto it, leaving no traces. Only the right password can deactivate this virus, and if it is left on the computer for more than six hours, it will format all drives.
As you can see, I take my N playing very seriously.
Guiseppi- I'd much rather watch animals get boned in the ass.
Yanni- If it's glad, it's not rape.
Tsukatu- I refuse to use throw-away bags for such a frequent purpose as buying groceries. Instead, I've collected the hair of my two pet dogs and have woven them together into an all-natural, 100% environmentally friendly bag that I bring with me everywhere. And when I buy products that come in glass and plastic containers, I track down the company that packages them and ship back their containers so that they don't take up space in landfills.
Yeah, I use plastic.

Dear Valve,
Can I have your babies? I don't even have in my possession a uterus, but I'm sure we can figure that out; with science.

Are there some essentials I should learn or should I just dive into the game and find out myself?

You should definitely check out the new tutorial Valve set up for TF2. Then you should try some offline matches on easy with ~12 players/bots total. Try to vary your class choices on the team and situation. Make sure you get a feel for how each class works.crescor wrote:I just bought the game. (orange box)

I don't agree. I think he should hop in, starting with basic classes like Pyro, Sniper and Soldier and then move up.Techno wrote:You should definitely check out the new tutorial Valve set up for TF2. While that is the way most of us (if not all) started out, I think it'd be great to actually put the training thing to actual us. If he feels he wants to jump straight into the action, then by all means go ahead. It's rough at first (especially if you first class was engineer :X ) but you'll get the hang of it. You might want to join a server that isn't full of pricks either.SlappyMcGee wrote:I don't agree. But if I had to choose an order of classes to learn:
Soldier
Heavy (?)
Sniper*
Pyro*
Medic
Scout
Demoman
Engineer
Spy
*interchangeable
Soldier for starts, simply because it's one of the easiest classes to run. It's your basic rocket launcher dude with a shovel and a shotgun. I believe even Valve said the Heavy was a class for beginners to try out first and it makes sense. There's little need to aim as precise as you would with a sniper or even soldier because of the spray of boolets. But I'm leaving this questionable because I personally don't like playing as slow characters and would probably get bored of him pretty fast. Sniper next, pretty straight forward. Pyro is similar to the heavy in the sense that the spray of boolets (fire in this case) helps with the aim. Although you'll pretty much try to W+M1 early on, it's good to try and learn to use airblast as well. Medic is next. It's not your average FPS character, but it's pretty easy once you get used to it. Scout is next - your run n' gunner. Just learn to never stop moving and aim while you're at it. Demoman is a tough character. You could technically do this guy right after soldier if you'd like, but I feel he's someone you should probably spend time on. Do some practice on him then go back to him when you're done would probably be best. Engineer is next, but he, like the medic, is basic once you know the controls. Just learning where to put your buildings is helpful and practice responding to certain situations ("Spy saps all your buildings, which do you save first?" for example) would be great. I'm putting spy last because you sort of have to know the roles of the other characters to know what you're doing. This is also the class that probably relies the most on luck and just being in the right place at the right time, so it'll be frustrating when die embarrassing deaths.

We had a server, briefly, but I stopped having money and certain people who promised to contribute to costs never paid a dime.

That's because you a fool, dog.Techno wrote:To be honest, I'm quite disappointed with the update so far. The new shotgun, after more thought, seems "eh" and the Wrangler is totally unimaginative. It's just another way to use your sentry. I was hoping for something more unique. But hey, we got 5 more days and hopefully another Meet the ___ video.
