Week 6 Winner - Capt_weasle
Welcome to SOTW V - the fifth season of the wonderful Signature of the Week contest. Even if you think you can't make "great" sigs - you should still try out and play. I hope to see our contestants grow as image makers, and have some friendly competition while at it.

As you may have noticed, southpaw isn't running SOTW this time around. However, I've gotten permission from him to start this up now and run it for the time being. I hope that I can make it run as smooth as past seasons.

---

The Rules
1. PM your entries each week to Techno with either a direct link to the image or the image itself. Only one entry per person. Once you submit an image, that is your final image for that week.

2. Make your own signature - don't steal someone else's work. Doing so will result in humiliating consequences. Contact me through IRC or PM if you feel that someone has cheated.

3. You must follow the theme for the week. No exceptions.

4. Your sig cannot be greater than the forum limit of 600 pixels (length) by 200 pixels (height). However, if the theme for a week allows for sigs larger than these dimensions, this rule need not apply.

5. You cannot switch or substitute your signatures after they have been submitted.

6. All tie-breakers will be decided by three random users on IRC. If they entered a signature and it just so happens to tie, someone else will be substituted in their place to vote.

7. Your signature must be submitted by the date assigned each week. No exceptions, foo'.

8. The signature must be made after the theme for the week is assigned. Previously made signatures are a no-no.

9. Advertising of any kind is not allowed.

10. You may post the signature you have made into your own image thread, but you may not use it as your actual forum signature, as it breaks Rule #9. You may not post the signature anywhere else until the voting for that round ends.

11. No offensive material of any kind. This means no use of derogatory terms, no nudity, no drugs, etc. If I find it offensive or think someone else will find it offensive I'll ask you to remake your entry.

12. VIOLATION OF THESE RULES MAY RESULT IN A BAN FROM COMPETING FOR ONE OR MORE WEEKS AT TECHNO'S DISCRETION

Week #1: Robots & Yetis

Let's start this season off with something forum related. Take place during post-apocalyptic world run by robots, or over the icy peaks of a distant mountain range controlled by the yeti(s), you've got some options this week. We've done a Ninja theme before, so for the sake of keeping this new, let's restrict this week to robots and/or yetis. You may just include one or the other, or do both if you're feeling adventurous. I hope to leave this one with a lot of room on creativity. Good luck!

Signatures are due by: Monday, May 31st, 11:59:59 PST.
(You may have noticed a little longer than a week is given for this week. Reason being that this competition just started and needs to get hyped up a little bit.)

Week #2: Wild West

Image
Week 2: Wild West
Gentlemen, gather up your ponies and saddle up for round two! Put on your silver spurs and get your gunslingin' cowboy face on. Make a signature based around anything related to the wild west we all know and love, from cowboys to ghost towns, Clint Eastwood to tumbleweeds, the possibilities are endless! Have a great Western-related stock image and wondering when to use it? Now is the time! I hope to see some great images this week.

Deadline for signatures is June 14th, 2010 11:59:59. Plenty of time to rustle up a sig. Get to work.

Week #3:Patterns

Ladies and gentlemen, this week we have a technique rarely used, and one of the most underrated effects ever: patterns. Just take a blank canvas an dump a pattern on it and submit it? Hell no, get more creative than that. Make a regular sig and overlay a pattern on it? It works, but it ain't always pretty. Try to involve some patterns in some creative ways!
Oh what? You don't know where to get patterns? Fear not! For I have another request in this week's challenge. When you send me your sig, also link me to the pattern you used. Voters will be able to see the pattern you used and use it to judge your submission.
Check out ColourLover's pattern selections. They have a seemingly endless supply of them. But I'm not restricting this to one site alone, you can excavate the interweb for any pattern. Other sites like DeviantART and Brusheezy come to mind. Oh, and if you're having trouble downloading the pattern on CoulourLover, do the following: Find the pattern of your desiring, then look in the panel to the right. It should have a link to several dimension sizes of the pattern (they'll be watermarked). However, to get the pattern, click the link that says "Preview."
If you guys ever need any help with this one, I'm available on the IRC or via PM most of the time. I know this is a tough week, but I expect some unique sigs this time around!

Deadline is not every Monday now, but determined by me everyweek.
So for Week #3, deadline is June 26th 11:59:59 PM (PST).

Week 4: Drugs

This week's theme was hinted on the IRC last week, specifically alcohol. But I've decided to make this more broad however. It's pretty open, make one about a certain drug, collection of 'em, or make a sig while /under the influence/ of one. Something trippy, or hell, even a public service announcement sig would work. Get to it.

Deadline: July 14th 11:59:59 PM (PST)

Week #5 :: Freestyle.

There's usually one every season of SOTW. No requirements on this week. Do whatever you feel like. My only request is that it follow the contest regulations, as well as forum requirements. I hope to see some unique stuff.

Deadline: August 1st, 2010 11:59:59 PST

Week 6 :: CAVERNS.

Image

Theme idea courtesy of our very gloomp. That's right. Caverns. Try to make that sig with the /perfect/ atmosphere. Does it have to be a stock image of a cave? No, of course not. Go and do something that no one else will. Good luck to you all. Hope to see more than three entries this time around!

Week 7 :: Man or Animal
Deadline: August 10th, 2010 11:59:59 PM PST.

Image

What're you? Man? Or animal? Choose a side and make a sig. Either road you choose, the freedom is still there, lot's of things you can do with both.
Wait, you wanna do both at once? Go ahead, you man-animal, if ye dare.

Deadline: August 19th, 2010 11:59:59 PST. Good hunting.

I'm gonna try and make something, but I'm not a great imager. Still, worth a go!

When the round is over, we can use the signature as our forum sig, yes? Just checking.

I have a query. Would it be acceptable for me to make 3 or 4 sigs, make a poll in my own art thread and submit the one which receives the most votes?

I've seen that done before (and done it myself), so I doubt Techno would have a problem with it.

Yes, you may. But only use your own art thread, don't make a separate topic simply for voting, please. I've seen this idea done (and done myself) on the IRC too, asking people about what they think.

Deadline is around 2 days from now, and I've only got two entries in.

Judging from the excitement in this thread, I hope to see more entries soon. Just a friendly reminder to get in this /now/!

Thanks. :D

EDIT: I might extend the deadline tomorrow if the number of entries is still low. Get your sigs in!

I was going to stay out of round one because I couldn't find any good stocks and then a Techno appeared.

.PNG is always the best. Also, don't post your sig in the thread; Private Message it to Techno.

I am going to 2nd the PNG recommendation as it is lossless as compared to GIFs and JPEG. BMPs are lossless too, but they aren't compressed, therefore, file sizes get rather large fast.
