Nice film, not one of studio ghibli's best, but still nice.

Heh, I heard about it a while ago, though I never watched it, thanks for reminding me. adds to "to watch" list

I recently finished reading "house of leaves" by Mark Z. Danielewski. A truly great book. Now I'm starting "Titus Groan" by Mervyn Peake.

Also I'm also playing ADOM, Dwarf Fortress as well as a ancient floppydisk-run game called "darklands" which I picked up from a charity shop.

I recently bought Bradbury Stories and I think it was worth the eighteen dollars.

Also, I just finished Odyssey and Polaris, both by Jack McDevitt. Consequently, I want him to have y bbies. I'm also in the middle of Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Identity, and I'm loving it.

I recently acquired Mass Effect 2, as well. But, I need to wrap up ME1, which shouldn't take too long.

I am digging Assasin's Creed at the moment. It has been sitting in my shelf for a good while because I didn't really enjoy it very much, but I have found after picking it up again that it is a solid game. Also, I am always digging Terry Brooks.

Watched There Will Be Blood again last night. Daniel Day-Lewis and Paul Dano make the most amazing team. Probably my favourite movie of '07.

There's just no contest in my mind. I find it difficult to write about There Will Be Blood without waxing Skyline-esque, laying heavy on the over-the-top adjectives.

What really killed No Country for Old Men for me (and for a lot of people) was the last 20 minutes. It was extremely tacked on and trite and felt like the Coens had just run out of money or something.

I had no idea. I truly enjoyed the last twenty minutes, and, while they were no first thirty minutes, they seemed to be much more thematically powerful in my mind then the midsection, which I consider the weakness of the film. Whereas There Will Be Blood is a brilliant performance coupled with a standard PTA script that is a little to caricature and not enough character (something that's plagued Anderson since Boogie Nights.). But I think that NCFOM is at least a little bit aware of itself, whereas TWBB is a little stuck up its own ass.

I'm in the mood for gratuitous amounts of violence/explosions BUT with a decent plot to go a long with it (Which immediatly crosses off 90% of Hollywood's movies). Any recommendations?

Pretty much anything by Guy Ritchie.

I read this, but my brain was off, and then I went to post Snatch, but then I realized that you already did, which I think pretty much confirms that Monsieur Ritchie is your candidate, Luminaflare. And you might be able to understand the dialogue because you're british!

Akira if you haven't seen it yet (though the manga is better in my opinion). Or, better still:
Old Boy

which is an amazing film: gripping story, clever twists, intense action, superb cinematography, etc.
I could go on about Old Boy for so long. Watch it. Now. (Make sure you watch with Original audio with subtitles for both of those.)

Oldboy is amazing, but I feel like it might be a bit heavier than what LF's seeking. Richie gets my vote as well.
