i want an electric guitar, preferably a semi-hollow / semi acoustic. I've been looking into this one: http://www.prsguitars.com/secustomsh/index.html
but when I had a play of it in a shop it sounded really nice and looked amazing and things, but its a little small and fiddly, especially for my hands. Bearably so, but it means i'm now not super set on buying it. even if its still a good option, so could you recommend me some guitars? not into the heavy metal-y ones at all and id probably go for a mellow-er sounding one over a more bitey sounding one. yeah. suggestions please?

I would buy this guitar and pay a bit more to replace it for a larger fretboard.

Fender Strats are classics man.
I also believe the term for "bitey" is "crunchy"
Oh well, different strokes for different folks.

I play an Ibanez Iceman, and I have to say, it's really good for noodling/shredding, and it definitely works as a metal guitar. It looks like a cross between a conservative, boring design, and a crazy-mad spiky metal guitar.
The only downside to it is that it can't do mellow nearly as well as most other guitars, but if you have a decent effects pedal, that's not really a problem. Oh, that and you can't attach a whammy bar. But again, you can just manually do it. :/
Honestly, it may have been designed as a metal guitar, but when I play it, it feels like it's better suited to psychedelia.

I've always been a fan of Rickenbacker, especially the 600 series. Others say the 'cresting wave' form is ugly, but I think it's quite nice.
So I would recommend the Rickenbacker 620.
