Mmm, that'd be great. I'm not sure if it would work, but a noble idea. Worth a try, as a matter of fact.GTM wrote:I agree with Evil Sire. we should set up a thread where experienced memebers can just post individual tips for new mapmakers, then at the end compile it all in a massive guide. And in general I agree with Atob's premise, you get better by refining your concepts of what makes a map good and raising your own expectations. Because maps are such varied things any advice more specific than the most general of terms can only be useful in a very limiting set of circumstances, and this means you aren't going to branch out and develop if you always try to follow map making guidlines.

As I said, the satire is aimed at the idea of map making GUIDES. There are no references, derogatory or otherwise, to any actual people at all.

When I read that, it seems as you are against the idea of making map guides. (Correct me if I'm wrong, please.)
You say that here, but I've seen a lot of maps on NUMA where you redirect newer players to Jeff-Killian's mapping guide. You are contradicting yourself.

Sorry, I was trying the subtle approach :)
I still think someone should set up a thread where experst can just post individual tips. I might later if no one else does.

Right, because semi-trolling at me is the height of thoughtfulness and articulation?.crescor wrote:Sophism.

OK, fine, I'll give you a proper answer:
Jeff Kilian's guide doesn't tell you how to build a map, it tells you how to avoid the basic mistakes many new authors fall fowl to. It's a really great OBJECTIVE set of pointers.
Like mine.
