Hey, dudes.

So, the evil German conglomerate that promised to give back our domain sold us to an even more evil Californian Conglomerate who won't return TheRealN.com for less than a hundred dollars, probably much higher. It would seem the the practice is pretty common to them, and if you want to contact Portfolio Brains, LLC. and tell them that they're hams, feel free.

That being said, it stands to us to make a new domain. Me and LittleViking threw a bunch around last night, but I don't think we are quite happy with one. So, why not open this up to the forums? (At least while we have them. EasterViking should be going down some time soon, since 1And1 were never paid for this site, either.)

What do you win if you submit the winning domain? I will personallytry to persuade maestro/stro/ortz/Dashiell Dunn and The Odds/bok_choy/Meat_Factory to write you a song. Unless maestro wins, in which case, the winner gets nothing.

The goal here is not overtly mundane, certainly not offensive, Metanet related (Try to avoid being specific to the N game, since we will soon be the headquarters for Robotology and Office Yeti), and to just try and encompass all that this community was and is.

Oh, and it can be .whatever, but .com is obviously best.

Anyway, I have come up with commutanet.domain, metanetcommunity.domain and metanet-community.domain.
But I still think getting that meta.net would be the best solution.

I definitely think we should try keep a connection to Metanet in the domain name again, at the very least. I really don't see a reason to drift away from them. Also meta.net is some cubicle company.

Well, I thought we're not looking for a domain only for the forum, but also typecocks, the comic, Memoirs and the other stuff that exist.

Ahh, right. Yeah, I was actually gonna mention that as well, but I don't think it'll be too much of a big deal if we use spacepimp.metanetforums.com or whatever. It just implies that it's a subset of our community, which it is.

Legacy and Metanembers are both dead as concepts.

We're not paying for therealn.com. If somebody wants to pay this company 100$, that's their prerogative, but I would -highly- recommend instead putting that money toward server costs, Ventrilo, mIRC, or any of the thousand other things that our community uses but doesn't feel the need to pay for.


I guarantee that meta.net will not be sold. He probably gets a bunch of hits from the redirect.

metanetforum is interesting. Simple, to the point.

Last night, amid humorous suggestions, one of the ideas me and LV had was Nrelated.com. For punnists.

I think stuff like Metaforum is too vague.

How about asking for a little help from the Metanet (they said they're willing to help somewhere on the blog) by making a subdomain community.metanetsoftware.com, and then creating community.metanetsoftware.com/forum, community.metanetsoftware.com/moa, etc.? I think it would work pretty well.

I think http://www.pompousbastards.com sums up our community fairly well, but if you don't like that, I also have http://www.trueninjas.com or http://www.tenatem.com.

I think they said they were willing to host it temporarily on harveycartel when they realised therealn was down. Permanently moving to their domain would mean we don't have control over what goes on, which isn't really ideal.

Nrelated is... interesting. What were other humorous suggestions, out of curiosity?
