Travel in Europe (Germany)

Hey guys, I'm about to go to Germany for a month and a bit and i'm quick realising how slim my wallet is in terms of travelling etc.

I'm staying with a friend in Magdeburg for most of the trip, and my main problem is the cost of travelling between there and Berlin regularly.

So any tips on that would be great, but definitely any tips in General about finding cheap accommodation in europe, cheap travel, etc. Anything that could help me out.

I realise this is a long shot but just in case thought I may as well haha

I don't know much about Germany, but buses are supposed to be stupidly cheap.
