just saw it, was pretty good, but really cheesy in bits. and some bits just made me laugh (haha sex in a floating sky ship thing heh... funny as) convoluted story though. i got a bit lost. but it was fairly nice. i think i''d enjoy it more if i see it again. but.. i cbf, it goes for 2 hours 40, and thats too long to watch for if ya know the ending for me....

on a side note, they wouldn't let me and 8 of my mates who went to see it in because we didn't have ID that we were 15+ (i'm turning 18 this year -_-) so we -all- snuck in. hahah. and there was a ticket guy there and everything. was easy though, and fun. :)

All the scenes with Dr. Manhattan parading about with his wang out were cut out, and he says some pretty important speeches during those scenes too, so yeah it was easy to get pretty lost (I haven't read the comic).

Actually, I started reading the comic yesterday and the movie is extremely - verging on ridiculously - faithful to the comic. All the camera angles are the same; you can actually pick out panels straight out of the movie with the script at the right time and everything. I kinda feel like the whole atmosphere of the thing is better kept as a comic, though. Ehh.

I haven't seen it yet, but from what I've read the wang is out in the open quite often. That's not the case then?

The graphic novel is great, obviously, and I'm curious how well the film will translate for me. I've heard they made some liberal changes with the ending, and as such the impact of the story has been lessened, I just hope I don't go into it with a closed mind about the changes.

Saying that, if there's no fluorescent wang I'm going to be mighty pissed.

At first I'd say it was another comic book film that probably doesn't capture the atmosphere of the original sources, but that would be generalising. Thankfully, I think this one's going to turn out a lot better than say, Wanted. Which was pretty cool anyways.

So yeah, looking forward to watching Watchmen watchfully.

I saw this in IMAX on Friday. That opening fight scene with the Comedian, where the camera follows him out the window? Wow. Just excellent. The flashbacks set to Bob Dylan's "The Times They Are A'Changin'"? Awesome. Come to think of it, it had a really good soundtrack: Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Simon and Garfunkel, great stuff. This is definitely one of the better movies I've seen in a while. I didn't notice the 2:40 it took to watch it.

I think the artist for the comic was very involved in the cinematography for the movie, so there were bound to be similarities, but I agree with Yanni that it was really striking at times.

In closing, Rorschach was badass. "I'm not locked in here with you, you're locked in here with me." Psycho, but badass.

Oh, and atob, those scenes weren't cut out where I saw it. And I can see how, if frets missed some of those scenes, he would be a little lost.

And GTM, a lot of this movie is taken literally off the pages of the comic. I went with at least three friends who had read the entire comic already, and they loved it.

Oh, yeah, I meant cut in Bahrain, of course. The thing was generally all over the place down here thanks to the constant censoring, so obviously there must have been a lot of fluorescent wang.

The movie catches the mood and theme but is not exactly accuraye to the story...

I loove the graphic novel. Unfortunately i am 16, so i doubt i will be able to see it in the London IMAX as me and my mates planned.

Exactly, there were some pretty cool kills, like that keyboard smash, that sniper going through a moving train, and that pointless finale circle at the end. But being cool doesn't make it a work of art.

I'm a longtime fan of the graphic novel, since it's kind of what got me into Vertigo and that whole scene.

Let me tell you, though, this movie is fucking excellent.

It makes some changes to the comic book, yes. And the fanboy part of me screamed and died a little, but the changes are minute and ultimately unimportant.

I think we can all agree that the action is excellent. Even critics I've read have said the action was excellent. And the ending does get switched around a little bit, but the theme is still there, and the last scene up in Alaska is worth seven times its weight in gold.

Anyway, I've seen it in iMax and again not in imax since it came out. It's probably my favorite movie ever.

Haha that happened to me last year- we got into the cinema alright, but one of my mates got pulled aside by a bouncer when we were walking to our seats. So making stuff up on the spot, he was like "uhh i'm here with my dad" and the bouncer was all "sure, where's your dad?" and so my mate walked up to some random old guy and pointed at him. And the random guy, who we'd never seen before, said "yep, that's my son". So the bouncer guy walked off and we all went and got seats. Hilarious. XD

I love long movies, and i'm really looking forward to seeing this one.

I was extremely happy with the way they did Rorschach's mask. That was one of the things I was worried about, was that it wasn't going to be well done but they pulled it off amazingly.

Dr. Manhattan's voice seemed a little off to me at first but I became more and more used to it as the movie progressed. Finally, as the movie neared its end, his voice became extremely perfect for the character.

I think the way Snyder was able to blend all the action and dialogue together was great, considering it was probably the most talkative movie I've seen in a long time. Of course, I've been waiting for this movie since I finished the graphic novel almost 7 years ago now, so I'm sure I was more attuned to the dialogue and interested in hearing how they fit a great deal of it into the story than most others. Still, since basically all of it was pulled from Alan Moore I think others may have found it interesting as well.

I was glad they didn't drag the movie along with the Pirate side-story. It definitely didn't seem like it would have fit anywhere. The explosion was a downer for those who have read and loved the novel, but it didn't take much away from the rest of the movie to really matter so much. And what was up with Ozymandias' pet being white? If I remember, that thing was most definitely bright red. Could have added a whole lot of color to the ending if they had colored that thing correctly.

Oh well, minor points that don't really matter so much. The movie was badass enough as it was that I can forgive all of the things that didn't match to the graphic novel directly.

And, wait a minute, frets, you only have to be 15+ to get in? Where I live I had to sneak in with a bunch of 16/17 age friends (needed to be 18). And then the movie wasn't close to worth it. Wasted a day.

I agree. I also prefer postcards of the Mona Lisa to the real thing, abridged versions of books and wax figurines to actual people. Get out of my house.

I just saw Watchmen, and I loved it.

Good story, hilarious scenes, good realization. AWESOME GREAT FUCKING MOVIE.
