N War

Picture this... A level... with multiple players... killing each other. The levels could be made bigger to accommodate multiple players. and why not just use the weapons already in the game? Ninjas with chain guns, laser guns, rocket launchers, grenades (thrown mines), powerups that give you zap drone abilities (run into people and shock them). Other items/powerups could also be available: jet packs (we already have "flying" in Nreality), multiple jumping, temporary invincibility. We could still have locked doors but maybe they just reset every minute or everytime the person who opened them dies. Maybe you could personally lock/unlock doors...awsome. The main key could be used for games like capture the falg. A whole new world of N where your current skill level would probably be just as valuable as it is now for regular N. I personally have no idea how to do this but someone made Nreality and modified N 1.4 so It could be done. If anyone has any ideas on how we would accomplish this just post them here or get in touch with me.

If you have no knowledge or experience, why are you heading this project?

What are your realistic goals? How do you expect to obtain them? Are M&R on board? Have they been contacted? Who will be coding?

Please send me all of these answers and I will make sure the community knows.

I should not be heading this project, your right, but I came up with the idea so It's my job to get it out there to find someone who is capable of heading it. If you know someone who can please tell them because we need their help.

Also, what does M&R stand for? Metanet&? or what?

Yea it should be in a different category but all the same concepts (maps, weapons, ninja etc.) should apply because all the same people would be playing.

When you use "clearly" in that sort of context, it's more often for sarcasm than not. Everyone knows the Admins possess the type of caustic wit that revels in sarcasm. Thus, it's pretty easy to think you weren't entirely serious about that last post. You may have thought your tone was clearly serious, but some might have thought it was /clearly/ /serious/. :P

Also, didn't the old forums have a disclaimer about suggesting multiplayer, weapons, and basically everything else that's being discussed here?

Oh, I see where you're coming from. But no, that post is entirely sincere. geti was the only one trying to keep the project alive and also has another completed game under his belt (which I haven't checked out) so I really think a new shot at the project would benefit from him being in charge.

p.s. as a heads up, assume I'm not being a dick in situations of doubt

That would be fun to play but would shatter gameplay style of the original game and would not give the same feeling. And we have / had lots of ideas now / back then and they are all dead and / or they're not active for a long time. You sure you want to do this?

Also, it would need some serious coding, but heck, we're not that good. (except a group of people which are less than fingers on my hand)

yea i still wanna do this. I think if everyone was serious about it like I am then we could find some people. My lack of experience in both the N community (knowing who to turn to) and programming puts my seriousness at a disadvantage.

Also I think N War may be different from the original N and it may even turn into another community kinda like N+ (which would be bad) but It also has a shot of bringing players together. I do agree that we might need to make it more relevant to N and less of a whole new game. Here are some ideas of how we could accomplish this...

Integrate N War into Nreality (same program)
Integrate N IRC into N War (with a new channel for N War)
Have current N skills greatly apply to N War skills

Dude, I'm actually pretty keen for this, If we do it. It's kind of beyond my scope as a coder and artist to do something as huge as we were thinking last time, but I'm sure we could work something out, especially if we actually put our heads and abilities together and do it rather than getting a hell of a concept together and like 3 prototypes..

Haha, Ilopocalypse is nowhere near complete, but I'm proud of it because the development hours are still under 50.
Here's what I'm working on at the moment, learning flash. That's probably about 5 7 (forgot a spriting session) hours maximum of development. I'm planning on finishing it over the next month at most (I'm bloody busy, that 7 hours was split up over a week, and was all night hours) but I could parallel it with this I suppose. I'm looking to do something more "game" and less "time waster" anyway...

As for integration with nreality, you'd need unreality's support but I suppose if you had a working game he'd be pretty amiable about it.. You'd need a good flash programmer for it though if you wanted it to be able to be integrated (it'd have to be flash for that) and I'm not willing to do it, nor do I have the skills needed.. Overall I'm dubious about this' future, like Tunco is..

Y'know, this sounds really interesting. Like a N online multiplayer game where you can do all of these different things; such as the stuff in N+ (co-op tag, switch capture) and this. I can just imagine how fun that would be.

maybe now that m&r are finally asking about Nv1.5 I'll suggest this to them. not for v1.5 of course but as a separate project. I think that's the only chance of this actually working.

Why not just play as the drones, turrets etc.? Compete for killing one/multiple ninjas. It'd still maintain ninjaness/ authenticity

A drone is not supposed to be intelligent. Ninjas are highly intelligent and love to kill people.

Actually, there's a game called "Pacman VS" which lets you do this -- three players play as ghosts while the 4th controls Pac-Man.

You should definitely check out the game "Soldat", which is very similar to "N with guns"; actually the movement in Soldat was a big inspiration for us when making N: http://www.soldat.pl/

That sounds impossible if you're pacman. Human ghosts would get you in a second
