Hey, so I have a problem with my Microsoft Word 2007 that needs fixed as soon as it can be. Currently, whenever I try to open a .doc file, I get an error message saying "This operating system is not presently configured to run this application." This happens even if I save a file myself as a .doc file with the same copy of Word.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium, if that makes any difference.

I need this to be able to view a syllabus for one of my classes. Help please?

Really quick fix - if it's mad urgent - would be to attach the file and get someone here to tell you what's on it.

Not super urgent, I can just find out in class, but it would be really nice to be able to open files in the future. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Edit: anyways, don't worry about figuring it out asap, gotta go for class now, and won't be back for at least a couple hours.

Well it was with Word 98, but I used to have a problem where I also couldn't /directly/ open files, but if I launched Word separately and opened the file within Word, it worked fine.

Have you tried restarting your PC?

Google says that this is a mostly unresolved issue, although I wonder if reinstalling Office would work (even though it apparently hasn't for some others).

That works for me, at least for now. Hopefully I can find out about a more permanent solution that lets me open a file from outside of Word.

As a sidenote, my Excel and Powerpoint don't have this problem.

I would take a look at this:

you may try if you have the ability to, uninstall and reinstall, could be that the first time you did it, it didnt go through properly. the other thing to check would be if there was an update available in the menu bar.
go to the start circle:
Control Panel-> System Security -> Windows Updates-> Check Available Updates
Look for one that says something about Office or something along those lines.
