problem with visual display on opened windows

well i recently got a laptop with windows 7 and i realized recently that all my windows that i open up look messed up:

Try this.

Go to the start menu, type in 'aero'. Click on 'Find and fix problems with transparency and other visual effects'.
It'll open up a window, click next. It'll go through a bunch of stuff on its own, checking your video card and such.

If that doesn't work, you can try turning off transparency by right-clicking your desktop, then clicking on personalize. Go to 'Window Color' at the bottom and uncheck 'Enable transparency'.

If /that/ fails, make sure you restart... and if it's still not working, consider getting a new video card.

Before considering getting a new card, updating the drivers first is a much better, cheaper solution.

Windows 7 does a pretty good job of automatically getting the latest drivers for a lot of stuff, especially video cards.
That is as long as automatic updates are on.
