The main problem with this is the price, really. You guys have made effective arguments for why we don't need the regular features of a tablet, or at least the market base does not, but if you're going to be paying that much for something that could potentially fill up very quickly, it hardly seems worth it at all.

Very true. I'd rather buy a netbook AND an iPhone for the same money, if not, less.SlappyMcGee wrote:The main problem with this is the price, really. I think smartalco brings up a good point on this - textbooks. If this can eliminate the need for me to carry around 5 or so heavy books, and bring the price down from what I'd normally pay, it's definitely a worthy product.
Not in college yet, but can anyone give me an idea on how much you'd spend a full year on books?

Well, a couple of rebuttals. A regular tablet could download eBooks and you would have infinite more selection.Techno wrote:I think smartalco brings up a good point on this - textbooks. But I spent about five hundred on text books this year, and I'm an art student. The semester when I was in science was worse, but I resold all of the books when I was done and nearly broke even.

In my 4th semester now, I have spent somewhere between $350 and $500 every semester. Thus far I have spent upwards of $1500 on books, and maybe got $500 back on resale (I haven't sold back all my books though, a few I've kept for my major just as references)Techno wrote:Not in college yet, but can anyone give me an idea on how much you'd spend a full year on books?

Would it be bad form to just dump a link to Droid Does and never pay attention to this thread again?

Way too expensive.
Now all they have to do is give people a reason to buy an overpriced, underfeatured item!

If by 100, you mean $259, then yes. That's still around half the iPad.scythe wrote:A Kindle costs $100, though.Techno wrote:I think smartalco brings up a good point on this - textbooks. A coworker to me a couple nights ago:
Him: "Have you seen the new iPad?"
Me: "You mean the giant iPod Touch?"
"Uh, sure. Isn't it awesome?"
"It can't really do anything my Touch can't do"
"Maybe, but it's basically a cool laptop"
"..."
"Why spend a bunch of money on a laptop when you can just get the iPad?"
"Laptops can do so much more..."
"But it's cheaper. And it can go on the internet."
I was out the door by this point. Curse you Apple and your marketing techniques.
