Here's the thing, I'd like to install a program that would ask for my password as soon as the site is opened, so nobody but myself will be able to open it. I first thought about some parental control things, but they're mostly porn-oriented protections, and I don't need that. Actually, I'd like to block all of the forums I'm present on. So if you know about some freeware Internet blockers, note me. And by the way, it would be good that the blocker is watching everything that uses Internet, since I need the protection for Opera, Safari and Internet Explorer. Thanks in advance.

How about that age-old custom known as "logging out"? Or are there some things you want to block that aren't behind logins?

If so, do you control those servers, or are they someone else's?

I'm talking about any forum I'm present on, such as this one. And I'd also like to block viewing the forums, so logging out can't help me.

http://polipo.org/ should be able to help you.

I'm having difficulties with running it, but... Are you sure you understood what I need? I need that, when someone from my computer opens, for example, http://forum.therealn.com/ a window pops up and says something like: "This site has been blocked. Please write the password in order to continue.", and a password field below.

Yeah, so configure all the browsers on your computer to go through polipo, and tell polipo to refuse traffic to the sites you want to block. There's not much else you can really do -- after all, it's impossible (from a security standpoint) to deny access to someone that has physical access to your machine, so the most you can do is obscure it.

I'm sure there's a Richard Stallman essay about this sort of thing, but I'm not sure where.

But wouldn't that make /me/ unable to go to the site? What would happen if I download some parental control software and I block something with it?

Edit: After I download a parental control program that would completely block a site, I could simply turn it off when I want to go on it, right?

Purely out of curiosity, why do you think you need this?
"... and when i say 'scary as hell' i really mean 'tight pink shirt'." -kai

I know that it doesn't really make it asap but... It's because I found my sister-idiot looking at my posts on some forums for few times. : )

This seems to work well. It would, though, involve you having to edit the file everytime you wanted to use the internet. Does she know which member you are? If you're that intensely bothered by it, you could just make a new account.

Preferebly before she sees this post, I'd imagine.

The link is broken. I'll have to edit the file when I want to use the internet, you say?
What's the application's name, so I can find it somewhere else?

It's not an application, it's a set of instructions. I can remake it, hold on.

Start > Run, type this in: notepad c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Ignore everything in the notepad file that comes up, go the end of the last line and press enter. Then, if you want to block, say, these forums and Google, you would add:

127.0.0.1 forum.therealn.com
127.0.0.1 google.com

Add addresses as necessary, save the file, and you're done. Remove those lines to unblock.

That will do needed, but I have one problem to solve first. This forum was blocked properly, however, another forum I'm on wasn't. The forum is sarajevo-x.com/forum. I tried with sarajevo-x.com only, I also tried with adding "http://www." , but it didn't work. Is there some reason why this doesn't work? Please try to block this forum, and tell me did it work for you.

Sticking the line
127.0.0.1 sarajevo-x.com
at the end works for me. You're sure that's the exact line you have? I didn't use a line spacing anywhere, I don't know if that makes a difference.

Hmm... it works now. Thanks a lot, Yanni.
