What laptop should I get.

Don;'t forget when buying an apple, that sales tax will fuck you. I had this dr4eam computer, but I had to take off $150 wortth of specs just becuase of sales tax.

Get one of those new macbooks. They are good all-rounders from what I hear, and they are easy on the eye. I reckon Mac OS X is a lot beter than Vista, its better to navigate and all that.

i would recommend a laptop that has good gaming graphics and wireless(but thats not a problem much anymore most come standard) as well as a really good warrenty. plus get the biggest screen you can.

I'm not getting it for gaming, it's primarily for school.

You still want a good laptop though. If you're just using it for school, pretty much anything will do.

Why get a laptop? Get a Tablet PC! It's exactly like a laptop except it has a stylus like a DS, you can flip the screen around 180 degrees and shut it; allowing you to write on it with the stylus like a book!

Excelent for drawing and for people who are to lazy to turn the whole screen around. There just awesome!!!!!!

Typically universities have minimum specificiations that netbooks aka UMPCs don't meet. They are good for drawing, though.

there is absolutely no correlation between tablet and netbook (for one, tablets were out for a few years before the concept of 'netbook' was even coined)

and Rikaninja, typically, a decent tablet will be at least $300 more then an equivalently spec'd laptop without the touch screen, they aren't for the low budget shoppers

I would not get a Macbook, yes they are sleek, but in my mind way overpriced.

I currently have an Hp dv1000 with windows xp, but the problems I have with windows is idiotic.

For my next laptop (probably when I graduate) I want amazing hardware (possably Voodoo of Alienware) processors, ram, etc.

The only differance is that I would kill windows and get linux. It's free, core software. It is less user friendly then OSX, but is basically the same thing.

My dad got a nice hp with vista, once we got home he immediately annihilated windows and got linux. Linux is so much better then windows.

And I don't want a Tablet, it's not my thing. Plus the price, as smartalco stated, would make it stripped, and not give me the features I would like.

I'll recommend Dells. I know Dell is seen as the archetypical evil PC company by the mac people, but in general their products are solid and their prices are good. If you're on a budget, Acer is a good company to consider. If you want to spend a little (and even in the mid-range, too) look at Asus's laptops. HP and Lenovo also build some nice machines, but HPs have always seemed a little chintzy to me (not sure why) and Lenovo sells with the 'thinkpad tax,' which isn't as high as the apple tax, but is a good chunk of cash.

NO. NO DELL. They were good until 2001 or so... then they went downhill. Their support is utter CRAP, their quality has gone to the dumps and it isn't what it used to be. Sure, you find them dirt cheap. You can buy a $400 Dell with outdated technology. The only Dells worth mentioning/considering is their higher-end XPS line. Thank God the one Dell I have left is from 1999 and an XPS.

Although I'd partially agree to most of that, I think they are still far better then some of the alternatives in HP/gateway/compaq (which, I believe 2 of those companies have been bought out in the last year...)
