The Monitor, really? I dug The Airing of Grievances but I couldn't get into Monitor at all. It felt the same as Grievances except all the emotion was a shtick. I know I'm not alone in this. The other two albums here I've heard, Kvelertak and Septembre Et Ses Dernières Pensées, didn't impress me either, but I think that's more my general lack of connection with the styles then any particular fault of the works.

I've still got a number of 2010 albums to check out and I generally disapprove of making a list before the period in question is actually over, so don't expect my rankings until early January.

10. Halcyon Digest -- Deerhunter
9. False Priest -- of Montreal
8. Brothers -- The Black Keys
7. Plastic Beach -- Gorillaz
6. Teen Dream -- Beach House
5. High Violet -- The National
4. The Bright Light Social Hour -- The Bright Light Social Hour
3. Infinite Arms -- Band of Horses
1b. Transference -- Spoon
1a. American Slang -- The Gaslight Anthem

Edited in/out a few things, including this insane local band's eponymous early-2010 album that I've slowly fallen in love with. I recommend it to any and all of you if you're looking for a fucking wild up and down listen (#4).

(Sorry Lenny!)

The year is not over. Stop voting.

But so far, I'd say Broken Social Scene, Kanye, and LCD Soundsystem were the only albums that I found even striking enough to be album of the year. Other albums I see on people's lists were either really standard releases from great artists (The National, Spoon) (( I have not seen Girl Talk on anyone's list, but that is the case there as well.), or worse CD's than the artist's previous work (Weezer, Vampire Weekend, Gorillaz, Arcade Fire, Joanna Newsom, Titus Andronicus)

The Gaslight Anthem album is great, too.

EDIT: Grinderman 2 is also in my top four.

Yes, the year is not over, but it's LIST SEASON! and quite a few places are putting their lists out now. Plus:

I think I overrated the new Weezer, yep. I'm sure my list will change in the next couple of weeks. I listened to Teen Dream tonight and loved it, mintnut.

(Also, I disagree with your assessment of Transference and The Monitor but whatever.)

They're probably the foremost French shoegaze after Alcest. They have over half a million listens on last.fm. They aren't that obscure.

Read further and see that a) I didn't like the album very much and b) toasters put it on his top ten.

I'm exactly the same.

I don't think I've even gotten / listened to 10 albums this year... my #1 would definitely be 'Immersion' by Pendulum, but other than that, I can't really think of anything.

I'm not going to bother listing all 10, but suffice it to say that High Violet would be number one if I were to make a list.

You misspelled the name of the artist of your favourite album of the year.
