The Necks, because apparently I'm wrong and stupid

hairscapades wrote:I realize that you were the OP of this thread but I sort of feel like it should be kept where a poster can express their opinion of the track above them without having someone else come in and second guess it no matter how wrong and stupid they are. It keeps this thread unlike every other thread on this forum.
^In regards to me rating Yahoozy's The Necks song a .1/10 (as he did incluye's song above his) in the 'Rate the song above you' thread.
Then slaps apparently came in and gave me a harsh talking to, but Tanner here came and deleted all his posts while also giving me a subtle harsh talking to. So without continuing to disturb the above thread, my response (and general attitude of laughing at your artistic license while I continue to degrade my reputation with the liberal arts community here at Metanet). And I will defend my "wrong and stupid" comments with more comments you will think are wrong and stupid because apparently you are artists and therefore are allowed to be pretentious.

I've now listened to 3, err, 'songs' of theirs, if they can be called that, therefore I'm allowed to make giant sweeping generalizations about all of their music. And because I'm not sure that was clear enough, the previous sentence was a joke.

The Necks formula:
1) Play a kinda catchy little riff on bass or piano.
2) Have the other of those two instruments come in and play something that sorta complements the previous part, but feels like it could maybe be its own little tune.
3) Have the drum player come in with something either so simple I could play it with one hand while typing this post, or something so ridiculous it sounds like it belongs in noise rock, not any form of jazz.
4) Then every 2 minutes, change one to two notes of each part randomly until the end of the 10+ minute rendition.

I actually enjoyed some of it for a little while. Then they continued playing nearly the exact same thing for several minutes until the point where I had a feeling similar to when you have a small segment of a song stuck in your head for a few hours. If I was actually rating it, I'd give it maybe a 4/10.

It never fails that when I try to be cool guy and take the edge off of something that I perceive as unnecessarily antagonistic of someone, the person I thought was initially in the right comes right back and proves me wrong. Seriously, smartalco, you forgot 5) Next level. Just because you aren't amused by the technical proficiency showcased in any given clip doesn't mean the music has no merit. Some of us experience emotion and meaning in music beyond a difficult guitar chord. There's no pretense in that.

I blame myself.

I never said it has no merit. In fact, if you read the last post, I said I even like parts of it, just not 10 minutes of the same part. Our musical tastes obviously differ, which I'm fine with. What I don't see the need for is someone coming in and attacking me for not liking it, which, whether you felt righteous in deleting slaps' post or not, you still had to slide in the 'wrong and stupid'.

And because I enjoy digging holes, here's a song you apparently thought deserved literally no merit. And here's another that didn't fare much better.

I'm sorry I implied that your post was wrong and stupid. It was a dick move.

I can't really articulate all the points I want to make here, because I'm seething with anger and disappointment, but with the consent of some peers, I submit to lock this thread as it serves no other purpose than to be a malicious, naive, and brainless attack on a single member's taste.

The examples you've posted here are within the same thread, and they are not obnoxious attempts to make their opinions noted - next time you need to go so far out of your way to be a spiteful idiot, use a different outlet.

I certainly accept partial responsibility for this. I didn't think smartalco would take as much offense to my snarkiness as he did and I've already apologized for that. But yeah, this thread isn't good for anyone. Locked.

smartalco, my post was mostly playful, indicating that I wanted to fuck you in the brain with my fist. I wasn't being too serious, although I think they are a great band. If anybody fucked up, it's continuously Tanner.

I dunno, I liked the thread. ;_;

Anywhoo, Hooze, I had initially read "Use a different toilet" and demand you change your post accordingly. Or delete everyone else's posts. Whichever I would do.

I do have to use a different toilet whenever I'm angry. Don't want to mess up the pipes.
