Never used to be a big fan of female vocalists, but recently I've been listening to more, and I'm starting to come around.

A couple of current favorites:

Bat for Lashes
The Dirty Projectors
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
The Knife / Fever Ray

What about you?

I really like the sound that Evanescence has, that is to say, the sound of old Lacuna Coil.

Oh, also Heart.

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH BARACUDA!

I listened to Draconian recently and thought it had a pretty good sound to it.

The Cranberries, too. And Massive Attack.

Janis and Aretha and Fleetwood Mac and maaaaybe The Pretenders (?) and that's always been it out of my (narrow-minded) music taste.

QFE to Fleetwood Mac, plus Evan Rachel Wood's work on the Across the Universe soundtrack, and various anime themes whose lyrics I don't understand. There are probably others I am forgetting.

Nadja, Joanna Newsom, OOIOO, and Yo La Tengo. My library is brimming with female vocalists, but they are not usually the primary singer, often not even prevalent, or only on one or two tracks.

Tomiko Van from Do As Infinity. She kind-of has the vocal approach (not range) of a dude.

Mostly I listen to the heavier musics that most of you probably hate listening to, but here are some of my favourite female vocalists anyway...

iwrestledabearonce - Krysta Cameron
Arch Enemy - Angela Gossow
The Agonist - Alissa White-Gluz
With Leaves' Eyes - Liv Kristine

...And that chick from Paramore...
What ever her name is.

I can't say that I have any particular favourites, but female vocal i general is great. Stuff like "The Call" from the Narnia soundtrack is amazing.
