I'm sure everyone's misheard lyrics. What's especially embarrassing is when you're singing them, completely off. My dad always thought The Sound of Music went "Tea, a drink with Janet Gray," which doesn't make much sense.

Mine's from "Well and the Lighthouse," where it says "Resurrected, living in a lighthouse" I always thought it was "Rezzo Rectin, living in a lighthouse... The lines and the lamps and sleep, and yes." Turns out I was way off - "Resurrected, living in a lighthouse. The lions and the lambs ain't sleepin yet."
People write to me and say, "I’m giving up, you’re not talking to me." I just write them a simple message like, "Never give up," you know? And it changes their life

I often confused the part in For Reverend Green by Animal Collective when Tare is yelling "For Reverend Green" as "Forever in green."

Oh yeah, that reminded me, my grandmother used to think "Forever in jeans" was actually "For Reverend James"

My mum can never get song lyrics right, even the clearest and simplest ones, which is a shame since she likes to sing a lot. Usually she just substitutes "dum-di-dum" in place of words, but sometimes she improvises lyrics of her own, such as "I can see clearly now the rains have come".

The only song lyric I used to get wrong which I can remember offhand is in Itchycoo Park, where instead of hearing "We can miss out school/Why go to learn the words of fools?", I heard "We can miss out school/Why go to learn the words of cool?" which doesn't really make sense.

I always hear the words "I'm looking at a blank page now" in Porcupine Tree's Mellotron Scratch as "I'm looking at kkstrong".

In Linchpin by Fear Factory, I always thought the opening line was "Just give me a pie!" when it was "Can't take me apart!"

I just relistened to Mellotron Scratch, and you are damn right Yanni. Now I'm gonna keep hearing that in that song.

Heh, I was confused on the very same Well and the Lighthouse lyrics.

Pretty much half of AFI's lyrics are quite confusing.

That, mostly. And Rainbow Voodoo by Clark if that counts, but I think he intentionally made it ridiculously messy, vocal-wise.

'Start Me Up' as 'pistachio'.
Oh, and 'Ich bin der Musikant' (from Taschenrechner by Kraftwerk) as 'spin the music, cunt'.

A couple of ones I noticed recently:

"Here's the sound that it's alight, here's the mode that it's alright" vs "Here's the sun, it's alright; here's the moon, it's alright" - Rebellion (Lies), Arcade Fire
"Sleeping in is giving in, no matter what they taught us" vs "Sleeping in is giving in, no matter what the time is" - Rebellion (Lies), Arcade Fire
"Pure in five colors, pure inside my mind" vs "Purify the colors, purify my mind" - Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)

In "Bikini Sports Punchin" by Maximum the Hormone, I've always heard the title being sung as "making a Spot, Spot check!" And so I've naturally envisioned this entire epic with a manic GM trying to kill his players, but one player standing heroically and announcing that he'll roll a Spot check. With the explosion of music comes a Broadway musical performance including fireworks and dancers dressed as d20's with legs "rolling" themselves.

EDIT: If you look this song up on YouTube to hear it, as I've just done in order to see how a person might interpret this song for the first time, I ought to warn you that the music video is fucking weird, and will probably make you uncomfortable if there are people walking around nearby.

I always seem to think the part that says "Come on pilgrims sing to the pyres." in Staying Fat - Bloc Party says "Come on progress into the past."

Simon and Garfunkel's Mrs Robinson.
It actually is "Jesus loves you more than you will know"
I used to think it was "She's a slut you more than you will know"

<jerrod> She walked up to me and she wanted to dance
<-- Life247 has quit (Quit: Aww fudgenuts.)
<jerrod> I love the lyrics.

<jerrod> I always listened to that song as I walked out of school at the end of the day.
<flag> <3
<flag> But anyway: Well I'm not the world's most masculine man
<flag> But I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man
<flag> And so is Lola
<flag> La-la-la-la Lola la-la-la-la Lola
<flag> Lola la-la-la-la Lola la-la-la-la Lola
<jerrod> I imagined my self in slow motion as I walked through the masses.

<flag> Never got that.
<jerrod> Lola was always a man.

<flag> No it doesn't.
<jerrod> YES
<flag> It says "she" thirty times.
<flag> Oh well.
<jerrod> yeah

<flag> Right.
<flag> I always liked "Waterloo Sunset" better anyway.
<jerrod> I asked her her name and in a /dark brown voice/ she said, "Lola"
<flag> What?
<flag> It's "dapper."
<jerrod> but when /she squeezed me tight she nearly broke my spine/
<jerrod> why she walks like a woman and /talks like a man/
<flag> Okay.
<flag> I like dapper better, but whatever,
<flag> Great song.
<jerrod> Yeah
<jerrod> It'
<jerrod> It's a very sweet song.
<jerrod> At the end of the day he's just happy to have someone.

<jerrod> And he loves lola regardless of the dick.

Cannibal Corpse's "Make Them Suffer." When Corpsegrinder screams "SUFFER!" at the beginning, it sounds an awful like "SOFA!"

Springsteen's "Blinded by the Light," the lyrics "And she was blinded by the light/Cut loose like a deuce another runner in the night" (chorus). Every version of this much-covered song sounds like deuce = douche. Weird phenomenon.

Chris Thompson's

EDIT: Wikipedia has this to say: "The song is notable for lead vocalist Chris Thompson's garbled enunciation, especially of the phrase 'revved up like a deuce' which has led many fans to interpret it as 'wrapped up like a douche'. The original Springsteen lyric is neither of the above, instead being 'cut loose like a deuce'."
