May 24 21:12:13 <Tanner> Hallelujah!
May 24 21:12:14 <Skyline> Oh, I just realized Yahoozy will be mad again.
May 24 21:12:23 <Skyline> We already did At the Mountains of Madness without him.
May 24 21:12:24 <Borealis> Meh.
May 24 21:12:35 <Borealis> We said we'll do Black Sea with him.
May 24 21:12:39 * Notify: SlappyMcGee is online (Proxy).
May 24 21:12:41 <Skyline> If he comes on halfway through, just ban him and pretend nothing is happening.
May 24 21:12:45 <Tanner> He's probably at church, talking to his girlfriend about not having anal sex.
May 24 21:12:49 * SlappyMcGee ([email protected]) has joined #music
May 24 21:12:49 * ChanServ gives channel operator status to SlappyMcGee
May 24 21:13:20 <Skyline> I think he's probably at the church, having anal sex with his girlfriend.
May 24 21:13:33 <Skyline> Anyway, this is a bit of a digression.
May 24 21:13:41 <Tanner> Why do we choose ambient, drone albums to do listens to?
May 24 21:13:47 <Tanner> Like, what can I say about this?
May 24 21:13:59 <Tanner> I love it.
May 24 21:14:00 <Skyline> It has a good texture.
May 24 21:14:04 <Borealis> BASS BASS BASS
May 24 21:14:05 <Tanner> Now what do I say about it?
May 24 21:14:15 <Skyline> Oh, that was a good note change!
May 24 21:14:19 <Borealis> I love it also, Tanner.
May 24 21:14:44 <Skyline> Is it like this the whole way? Because the credits say there's a french horn on this track.
May 24 21:15:02 <Tanner> This is the french horn, Skyline.
May 24 21:15:08 <Tanner> Just kidding!
May 24 21:15:10 <Borealis> Yeah.
May 24 21:15:18 <Skyline> Hahahahah.
May 24 21:15:19 <Borealis> It's subtle on this one.
May 24 21:15:32 <Skyline> Just a bit.
May 24 21:15:38 <Borealis> Later on it becomes more apparent.
May 24 21:16:00 <Skyline> Is that strings in the background I hear?
May 24 21:16:07 <Skyline> There is something else there.
May 24 21:16:08 <Borealis> This is what a diplodocus would sound like playing guitar.
May 24 21:16:30 <Skyline> Hehe.
May 24 21:16:38 <Skyline> I'm trying to think of what Paramore would sound like over this.
May 24 21:16:58 <Borealis> No.
May 24 21:17:00 <Borealis> Really.
May 24 21:17:20 <Skyline> Oh, I thought it was ending for a second.
May 24 21:17:39 <Tanner> DUN DE RUS
May 24 21:17:42 <Tanner> RISE 'EM UP
May 24 21:17:45 <Tanner> SUNCE
May 24 21:17:51 <Tanner> COUL
May 24 21:17:56 <Tanner> FROM THE ARUMPH
May 24 21:17:59 <Tanner> TO DEPTHS
May 24 21:18:07 <Skyline> What a great time for my mother to walk downstairs and hear this!
May 24 21:18:27 <Borealis> OV GRAVITY
May 24 21:18:30 <Borealis> CHANGE.
May 24 21:18:40 <Borealis> INTO MEMORIES.
May 24 21:18:55 <Tanner> Awesome.
May 24 21:19:05 <Borealis> Attila is /so/ Hungarian.
May 24 21:19:21 <Borealis> His name is Attila, for a start.
May 24 21:19:26 <Skyline> This sounds like Tenhi having a bad day.
May 24 21:19:55 <Tanner> I can just imagine this guy ordering some at a restaurant in this voice.
May 24 21:19:59 <Tanner> *something
May 24 21:20:13 <Tanner> I WILL
May 24 21:20:18 <Tanner> HALVF
May 24 21:20:22 <Skyline> Oh, I should've done that when I went out to eat last night.
May 24 21:20:27 <Tanner> THE FRENCHFRIES
May 24 21:20:50 <Skyline> Piano, I think!
May 24 21:20:53 <Borealis> Bahaha.
May 24 21:21:17 <Skyline> I'm not sure how I feel about this album.
May 24 21:21:30 <SlappyMcGee> Why CD is it, now?
May 24 21:21:35 <SlappyMcGee> *Which
May 24 21:21:35 <Borealis> YOU HAVEN'T HEARD IT YET.
May 24 21:22:08 <Borealis> Sunn O)))'s Monoliths and Dimensions, Slappy.
May 24 21:22:22 <Skyline> Oh, it's actually "&", not "and".
May 24 21:22:32 <Skyline> GET IT RIGHT
May 24 21:22:44 <SlappyMcGee> Oh, that CD is fantastic. Too bad I missed this.
May 24 21:23:00 <Tanner> You can jump in at the next track change.
May 24 21:23:07 <Borealis> We're only about halfway through the first track.
May 24 21:23:08 <SlappyMcGee> Where we at?
May 24 21:23:13 <Tanner> 6 minutes.
May 24 21:23:14 <SlappyMcGee> Oh, sweet.
May 24 21:23:16 <Skyline> I'll admit, I think the string part here improves the song.
May 24 21:23:26 <Borealis> What, Tan?
May 24 21:23:30 <Borealis> I'm at 11.
May 24 21:23:39 <Skyline> 11:40, even.
May 24 21:23:39 <Borealis> oh, 6 minutes left.
May 24 21:23:40 <Tanner> Six minutes til the track change.
May 24 21:24:17 <SlappyMcGee> Just give me the word.
May 24 21:24:50 <Borealis> There's your horn, Skyline.
May 24 21:25:21 <Borealis> The first time I saw them play they had a guy with a tuba.
May 24 21:25:24 <Skyline> Bahahahaha.
May 24 21:25:39 <Borealis> I just thought it was so random.
May 24 21:25:51 <Borealis> I was secretly hoping it would change to polka.
May 24 21:26:29 <Skyline> Oh, well good thing I know it doesn't now.
May 24 21:28:07 <Borealis> FORGET
May 24 21:28:11 <Borealis> EVERYTINK
May 24 21:28:29 <Skyline> How do you like this but not Pranzo Oltranzista?
May 24 21:28:37 <Tanner> One minute warning, SlappyMcGee.
May 24 21:28:39 <Borealis> Shut up.
May 24 21:28:42 <SlappyMcGee> Thanks.
May 24 21:29:19 <Skyline> It's illogical, really!
May 24 21:29:21 <Tanner> 10 seconds, SlappyMcGee.
May 24 21:29:31 <Skyline> RIGHT NOW SLAPPYMCGEE
May 24 21:29:33 * Tanner is listening to Big Church by Sunn O))) (Monoliths & Dimensions).
May 24 21:29:40 <Skyline> Oh, this is a change.
May 24 21:29:45 * SlappyMcGee is listening to Big Church.
May 24 21:29:54 <Skyline> Do you really have this album, SlappyMcGee?
May 24 21:29:56 <SlappyMcGee> Man, this is a great way to start an album.
May 24 21:30:05 <SlappyMcGee> Not physically, but I have it.
May 24 21:30:25 <Borealis> megszentségteleníthetetlenségeskedéseitekért!
May 24 21:30:28 <SlappyMcGee> Big Church (Megszentségteleníthetetlenségeskedéseitekért)
May 24 21:30:30 <SlappyMcGee> YEah.
May 24 21:30:37 <Tanner> He must because this would have been a fantastic way to start an album.
May 24 21:31:05 <Skyline> Wait, my song isn't labeled as such.
May 24 21:31:08 <Skyline> Should I change it?
May 24 21:31:33 <SlappyMcGee> Errr. Duh.
May 24 21:31:48 <SlappyMcGee> Oh, that effect was cool.
May 24 21:32:01 <Tanner> I'm pretty sure they speak in tongues throughout most of this song.
May 24 21:32:08 <SlappyMcGee> When it felt like two echoes grinding against eachother?
May 24 21:32:17 <Skyline> Hahaha!
May 24 21:32:23 <Skyline> That was a very good ending.
May 24 21:32:54 <SlappyMcGee> More like the close of a prologue.

May 24 21:35:11 <Tanner> "MAXIMUM VOLUME YEILDS MAXIMUM RESULTS."

May 24 21:35:34 * Amadeus has quit (Ping timeout)
May 24 21:35:37 * Amadeus_ is now known as Amadeus
May 24 21:35:43 <Skyline> This is a good song.
May 24 21:36:05 <Skyline> Also, very cool: http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/_/384676/Sunn+O.jpg
May 24 21:36:41 <Borealis> I've said it before and I'll say it again. Live, this is like being pummeled by heavyweight boxers.
May 24 21:36:56 <SlappyMcGee> Sounds pleasant.
May 24 21:37:08 <Skyline> Yes, but what about the choral parts?
May 24 21:37:16 <SlappyMcGee> I feel like I'm trapped in a pit. Also, really amazing music is playing in the pit.
May 24 21:38:02 <Borealis> I'm not sure, Skyline.
May 24 21:38:03 <Tanner> This would be a good "right before I die" track.
May 24 21:38:07 <Skyline> Yes.
May 24 21:38:55 <Borealis> "We love frequencies like 80Hz, 110-120Hz, 180-200Hz."
May 24 21:39:12 <SlappyMcGee> Hahaha.
May 24 21:39:30 * SlappyMcGee is listening to Hunting & Gathering (Cydonia)
May 24 21:39:33 * Tanner is listening to by ().
May 24 21:39:36 <Skyline> This is quiet.
May 24 21:39:37 <Tanner> What?
May 24 21:39:45 <Tanner> That doesn't even make sense.
May 24 21:39:48 <Tanner> I hate you.
May 24 21:40:12 <Borealis> Quiet now, Skyline?
May 24 21:40:17 <Skyline> NOPE BETTER
May 24 21:40:31 <SlappyMcGee> Sounds like French.
May 24 21:40:45 <Skyline> This really scares me.
May 24 21:40:48 <Borealis> I'm guessing it's probably Hungarian.
May 24 21:40:56 <Skyline> I can't identify with this! ;-;
May 24 21:41:05 <Borealis> Really oppressive, this.
May 24 21:41:12 <Skyline> I NEED SOME INDIE POP RIGHT NOW
May 24 21:41:12 <Borealis> Throwback to Black One.
May 24 21:41:32 <SlappyMcGee> Yeah. It's like some sort of mob mentality thrown into your eardrums.
May 24 21:41:46 <Borealis> Someone needs this as a horror film soundtrack. Right fucking now.
May 24 21:41:54 <Skyline> Yes, I was just thinking that!
May 24 21:42:01 <Tanner> This definitely sounds better with all the lights turned off.
May 24 21:42:07 <SlappyMcGee> I was going to say that Mortal Kombat needs to hire these guys for the next game.
May 24 21:43:29 <Borealis> If you don't have a demon embedded in your soul, congratulations.
May 24 21:43:29 <Tanner> This is so making me want to listen to Black One.
May 24 21:43:33 <Borealis> You do now.
May 24 21:43:58 <Skyline> Hahahah.
May 24 21:44:22 <Tanner> I really like this song.
May 24 21:44:29 <SlappyMcGee> How do you say these dude's name in real life, btw?
May 24 21:44:37 <Tanner> Sun?
May 24 21:44:50 <Borealis> Sun.
May 24 21:45:00 <SlappyMcGee> Didn't know if it was SunnO.
May 24 21:45:07 <Borealis> But you carry around a reverb tank with you so it gets echoed.
May 24 21:45:09 <Skyline> That's sort of ironic, actually.
May 24 21:45:17 <Skyline> I would never think of sun while listening to this.
May 24 21:45:30 <SlappyMcGee> Heroic!
May 24 21:45:50 <Tanner> They took their name off an amp or something.
May 24 21:45:51 <Borealis> Those horns are fantastic.
May 24 21:46:14 <Tanner> Yeah. A SUNN amp.
May 24 21:46:23 <Borealis> The amps that Earth used.
May 24 21:46:34 <Tanner> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunn
May 24 21:47:14 <SlappyMcGee> A band called Sun got their name from a band called Earth, and both of them are entirely ironic names.
May 24 21:47:30 <Borealis> Hahaha.
May 24 21:47:36 <Skyline> OH GOD IS THIS ALBUM OVER YET
May 24 21:47:57 <Borealis> Alice will make everything good, Skyline.
May 24 21:48:09 <Skyline> Alright. :D
May 24 21:48:21 <SlappyMcGee> Are we doing Sufjan Stevens after this? :D
May 24 21:48:30 <Skyline> No.
May 24 21:48:33 <Skyline> Death Cab for Cutie.
May 24 21:48:37 <SlappyMcGee> :3
May 24 21:48:39 <Tanner> For you, Borealis, where does this fall in the Sunn O))) album heirarchy?
May 24 21:48:52 <SlappyMcGee> The end of this is really sweet.
May 24 21:48:53 <Borealis> How do you mean?
May 24 21:49:19 * SlappyMcGee is listening to Alice
May 24 21:49:36 <Tanner> Like, if you had to order the albums in terms how much you like each, which place would this be in?
May 24 21:49:38 * Tanner is listening to by ().
May 24 21:49:41 <Tanner> Oh right.
May 24 21:49:46 <Tanner> Goddamn.
May 24 21:49:54 <Borealis> Ah.
May 24 21:49:55 <Skyline> It's strange to hear a guitar in its normal range.
May 24 21:49:56 <SlappyMcGee> HAHA WHERE ARE YOUR MACROS NOW
May 24 21:50:13 <Borealis> This is first, no question.
May 24 21:50:24 <Borealis> Black One ever so lightly behind it.
May 24 21:50:29 <Borealis> *slightly
May 24 21:50:59 <Skyline> Well, I enjoy how not-demonic this is!
May 24 21:51:02 <Tanner> That surprises me, actually.
May 24 21:51:04 <SlappyMcGee> This is steampunk.
May 24 21:51:16 <SlappyMcGee> It sounds western, but extremely Metal at the same time.
May 24 21:51:29 <Borealis> Haha.
May 24 21:51:55 <SlappyMcGee> "Sunn O))) was also shown in the August 2007 issue of Q Magazine (the "loud issue"), with their album White1 being named the 18th heaviest album of all time, just above AC/DCs Back in Black and below Aphex Twin's album ...I Care Because You Do."
May 24 21:51:57 <SlappyMcGee> ...
May 24 21:52:17 <Borealis> ...
May 24 21:52:18 <Borealis> Yes.
May 24 21:52:23 <Tanner> I've read that list. It's very strange.
May 24 21:52:27 <SlappyMcGee> I would have a gun fight to this music. But with future weapons.
May 24 21:52:45 <Tanner> I would have a laser hocker match to this music.
May 24 21:52:50 <Tanner> *hockey
May 24 21:52:51 <Borealis> This is the build up to a gun-fight, Slaps.
May 24 21:52:59 <SlappyMcGee> Right.
May 24 21:53:09 <SlappyMcGee> Our hands our above our laser holsters.
May 24 21:53:20 <Skyline> SlappyMcGee, it would have to be lasers that travel very slowly.
May 24 21:53:22 <SlappyMcGee> And the camera's a spinnin'.
May 24 21:53:34 <Tanner> John Wayne has a cameo.
May 24 21:53:37 <Borealis> If you like that feeling, another album for you is Earth's "The Bees Made Honey In The Lion's Skull".
May 24 21:53:45 * RandomDigits has quit (Quit: The thumbnail.)
May 24 21:53:52 <SlappyMcGee> I've heard it.
May 24 21:54:06 <SlappyMcGee> It's not my fave of theirs, but I get what you're saying.
May 24 21:54:19 <Borealis> Hex?
May 24 21:54:27 <Skyline> Yahoozy named a map after that!
May 24 21:55:00 <SlappyMcGee> Hibernaculum.
May 24 21:55:08 <Borealis> Skyline: Do you feel the light, yet?
May 24 21:55:16 <Skyline> Err.
May 24 21:55:25 <Skyline> It's more just cloudy.
May 24 21:55:37 <Skyline> But this is a very good song.
May 24 21:55:52 <Borealis> This song is the clouds parting.
May 24 21:56:21 <SlappyMcGee> And revealing that the sun has been replaced by darkness.
May 24 21:57:32 <SlappyMcGee> Hmmm. On another Wikipedia article: "In Q Magazine's August issue (named the loud issue), they named White1 as the 18th loudest album of all time, just above AC/DC's Back in Black and below Jimi Hendrix's album Are You Experienced?[1]."
May 24 21:57:39 <SlappyMcGee> Possibly more ridiculous.
May 24 21:58:07 <Tanner> This is fantastic.
May 24 21:58:28 <Borealis> It also changed from "heaviest" to "loudest" which is really 2 different things..
May 24 21:58:55 <Skyline> I don't know what else they're planning on doing in this song.
May 24 21:59:38 <SlappyMcGee> Well, in any event, we can all agree that Neil Young deserved a higher spot than this band.
May 24 21:59:48 <SlappyMcGee> By the way, this part with the background is fucking fantastic.
May 24 22:00:10 <Skyline> Yes, agreed.
May 24 22:00:15 <Borealis> It's interesting.
May 24 22:00:24 <Borealis> You lose focus on the guitars, for once.
May 24 22:00:31 <Skyline> Too bad Lenny isn't here right now.
May 24 22:00:38 <Borealis> The horns become the overpowering elements.
May 24 22:01:17 <Skyline> Is... is that an oboe?
May 24 22:02:04 <Skyline> OH GOD BOREALIS
May 24 22:02:07 <Skyline> IT'S THE SUN
May 24 22:02:09 <Skyline> I SEE IT NOW
May 24 22:02:44 <SlappyMcGee> Man, did Sunn O))) do the Hey Arnold theme song? Cause I think they just stole it.
May 24 22:03:50 <Skyline> I loved that show!
May 24 22:03:56 <Skyline> Except there really should have been more black people in it.
May 24 22:04:06 <SlappyMcGee> WHAT? There was one.
May 24 22:04:21 <SlappyMcGee> That's three times as many as any other cartoon.
May 24 22:04:30 <SlappyMcGee> Except for The Fucking Proud Fucking Family.
May 24 22:04:46 <Borealis> I HOPE YOU GUYS AREN'T LISTENING TO ANYTHING AFTER THIS.
May 24 22:04:53 <SlappyMcGee> WHY
May 24 22:04:58 <Borealis> Bask in the fucking majesty.

[00:28] <07@Leaff> Listenin'.
[00:28] <07@Skyling> Terrific.
[00:28] <07@rocket_thumped> yay
[00:28] <07@Skyling> One of the best songs on the album.
[00:28] <07@Sept> I was playing a krusch map today named after this.
12[00:28] * @SlappyMcGee Neughborhood #1 (Tunnels) - Arcade Fire
04[00:28] * @southpaw . the arcade fire . funeral . neighborhood #1 (tunnels( *
[00:28] <07@rocket_thumped> So pretty the beginning is.
[00:28] <07@southpaw> ajskf;ajklfja;d
[00:29] <07@Skyling> I adore the storyline.
[00:29] <07@southpaw> Dude, a thunderclap happened just as the music started. :D
[00:29] <07@Leaff> Hahah, sweet.
[00:29] <07@rocket_thumped> thunderstorms?
[00:29] <07@southpaw> there's a huge storm here, it's been going on for hours.
[00:29] <07@rocket_thumped> Coming this way?
[00:29] <07@riZ> Southpaw: Nice song, bad tagging :\
12[00:29] <07@SlappyMcGee> I don't know what this song means, lyrically, but it appeals to me.
[00:29] <07@southpaw> I think so.
[00:29] <07@toasters> Long time no see southpaw.
[00:29] <07@rocket_thumped> cool.
[00:29] <07@Skyling> I remember listening to this song in the dead of winter at sunset.
[00:29] <07@southpaw> It talks about shedding the bonds of society. I think.
[00:29] <07@rocket_thumped> Slappy, it's about the isolation of being a kid.
04[00:29] * @riZ Now Playing: Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels) - Arcade Fire - Funeral
[00:29] <07@Skyling> It was so perfect.
[00:29] <07@rocket_thumped> Of being in your room.
[00:29] <07@riZ> :D
[00:29] <07@Leaff> I haven't heard a full album by Arcade Fire in like... ever.
[00:30] <07@Skyling> I think each of these neighborhoods were written by a different band member, right?
[00:30] <07@Sept> It's talking about the philosophy of society, bro.
[00:30] <07@southpaw> toasters! :D
[00:30] <07@Sept> Just deconstructing social barriers.
[00:30] <07@rocket_thumped> Maybe.
[00:30] <07@Sept> ...Bro.
[00:30] <07@rocket_thumped> Bro?
[00:30] <07@southpaw> then our skin gets thicker!
[00:30] <07@rocket_thumped> Bro...
[00:30] <07@Skyling> It also addresses the idea of a world without authority.
[00:30] <07@southpaw> from living out in the snow!
12[00:30] <07@SlappyMcGee> I remember listening to this song when I was locked out of my house for three hours. That was a bummer.
[00:30] <07@toasters> From living out in the snow
[00:30] <07@Skyling> I don't get the chorus at all.
[00:30] <07@toasters> Haha, we're synced paws
12[00:30] <07@SlappyMcGee> Is the song dystopian?
[00:30] <07@Leaff> We should all be synced, toasters. :3
[00:30] <07@Skyling> Hmm, it seems too childish to be that, SlappyMcGee.
[00:30] <07@rocket_thumped> I love the feel of the guitar.
[00:31] <07@Leaff> Mmhm.
[00:31] <07@Skyling> But maybe the naive-ness is just a cover!
[00:31] <07@southpaw> we're synced if you consider the ping delay.
[00:31] <07@Leaff> Ah.
12[00:31] <07@SlappyMcGee> I really like what the Arcade Fire does with guitar-work.
[00:31] <07@rocket_thumped> Yeah.
[00:31] <07@Skyling> AND OUR PARENT'S BEDROOMS
12[00:31] <07@SlappyMcGee> They're a guitar oriented band, but it doesn't feel like it.
[00:31] <07@rocket_thumped> I got to see them live on tv once.
[00:31] <07@southpaw> I like it too, but I dislike the way they approached Neon Bible.
[00:31] <07@Skyling> WHAT THE HELL EVER HAPPENED TO THEMAM;jf
[00:31] <07@Sept> Skyling, I think of your parents.
[00:31] <07@Sept> Especially your dad.
[00:31] <07@Sept> What's your dad's email address?
[00:31] <07@riZ> As the day grows dim..
[00:31] <07@rocket_thumped> Their Austin City Limits performance was broadcasted live on PBS for some reason one night.
[00:31] <07@Skyling> :/
12[00:31] <07@SlappyMcGee> Themam;jf is the perfect way to write that lyric.
[00:31] <07@rocket_thumped> It was awesome.
[00:31] <07@Skyling> The song I've been trying to sing!
[00:32] <07@Leaff> Am I the only one who's never heard this album before? >_>
[00:32] <07@ortsz> SPREAD THE ASHES
[00:32] <07@Yahoozy> Have we started?
12[00:32] <07@SlappyMcGee> Probably, Leaff.
[00:32] <07@Skyling> Fuck. This last part is so victorious and grand.
[00:32] <07@Yahoozy> Oh.
[00:32] <07@southpaw> ortsz we're off.
[00:32] <07@Leaff> Ah well.
[00:32] <07@Skyling> Right here. This is where it's at.
[00:32] <07@Sept> Yahoozy, we're near the end of Tunnels D:
[00:32] <07@Leaff> I'm liking it so far.
[00:32] <07@southpaw> by about 2 seconds.
[00:32] <07@rocket_thumped> WOWOOoooooooooooooOOOOOOOOooo
12[00:32] <07@SlappyMcGee> We're at 3:50 on the tube.
[00:32] <07@rocket_thumped> WOWOOoooooooooooooOOOOOOOOooo
[00:32] <07@Skyling> Regine's vocals are perfect.
[00:32] <07@southpaw> 4 minutes now
[00:32] <07@Skyling> EVERYTHING IS PERFECT
12[00:32] <07@SlappyMcGee> Oh, I never relalized that was Regine singing.
[00:32] <07@Skyling> WHAT AN ORGASM
[00:32] <07@ortsz> Yeah, I started playing exactly thirty seconds after Slappy said thirty seconds.
[00:32] <07@southpaw> WOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
12[00:32] <07@SlappyMcGee> Or humming, rather.
[00:32] <07@rocket_thumped> WOWOOoooooooooooooOOOOOOOOooo
[00:32] <07@Skyling> She's wooing!
[00:33] <07@rocket_thumped> Me too!
[00:33] <07@Skyling> Mmm. Release.
[00:33] <07@southpaw> I would be wooing if my people weren't asleep in the next room.
[00:33] <07@Skyling> Tingling piano.
[00:33] <07@Sept> Release, Skyling?
[00:33] <07@rocket_thumped> To the riff of the guitar I just noticed..
[00:33] <07@Leaff> Haha.
[00:33] <07@southpaw> Neighborhood #3 is my favourite.
04[00:33] * @ortsz · The Arcade Fire - Neighborhood #2 (Laïka) [Funeral #02]
12[00:33] <07@SlappyMcGee> I love this song.
[00:33] <07@Skyling> And now we have something a little more playful.
[00:33] <07@Leaff> Groovy.
[00:33] <07@Sept> I feel sorry for the dog! :(
12[00:33] <07@SlappyMcGee> It's probably top three for the album for me.
12[00:33] <07@SlappyMcGee> The space dog?
12[00:33] <07@SlappyMcGee> :D
04[00:33] * @southpaw . the arcade fire . funeral . neighborhood #2 (laika) *
[00:33] <07@Sept> Mhm.
[00:33] <07@Skyling> There's a terrific live recording of this.
[00:33] <07@southpaw> haha, yeah.
[00:33] <07@southpaw> Don't be a laika!
[00:33] <07@Skyling> Everyone is jumping around stage.
[00:33] <07@Skyling> I mean, live video.
[00:33] <07@southpaw> such a great line.
[00:34] <07@Skyling> This Alexander guy is a dick.
12[00:34] <07@SlappyMcGee> The lyric at the end is my favorite arcade fire lyric.
12[00:34] <07@SlappyMcGee> I'll point it out when we get there.
[00:34] <07@southpaw> good good.
[00:34] <07@southpaw> c'mon alex!
[00:34] <07@southpaw> there's nothing to it!
[00:34] <07@Skyling> Now the neighbors can dance, SlappyMcGee?
12[00:34] <07@SlappyMcGee> Ahaha.
12[00:34] <07@SlappyMcGee> Daddycomeshome,startsfight,soneighborscandance,discolight.
[00:34] <07@southpaw> oh, actually Wake Up is probably the greatest song on this whole album.
[00:34] <07@ortsz> oooooo eeeooo oooooooo
12[00:35] <07@SlappyMcGee> Amazing.
[00:35] <07@Skyling> Everyone, watch this sometime.
[00:35] <07@Skyling> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vMjM7FKjIg
[00:35] <07@rocket_thumped> Wake Up is pretty awesome.
12[00:35] <07@SlappyMcGee> Rebellion (Lies) is pretty pimp.
03[00:35] * Skyling changes topic to 'I will drink water from a dog before I pay for soda. | WATCH THIS'
[00:35] <07@toasters> The preview for Where the Wild Things Are used Wake Up.
[00:35] <07@ortsz> Rebellion is the best.
[00:35] <07@southpaw> this is true.
03[00:35] * Skyling changes topic to 'I will drink water from a dog before I pay for soda. | WATCH THIS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vMjM7FKjIg'
[00:35] <07@rocket_thumped> Wasn't Wake Up in the Where the Wild...
[00:35] <07@Sept> In The Backseat is the best! D:
[00:35] <07@rocket_thumped> yeah
[00:35] <07@rocket_thumped> awesome.
[00:35] <07@Skyling> DON'
[00:35] <07@rocket_thumped> In The Backseat is the best!
[00:35] <07@Skyling> T DIE OR DRY UP
[00:35] <07@Leaff> Seriously, Toasters?
04[00:35] * @riZ Now Playing: Rebellion (Lies) - Arcade Fire - Funeral
[00:35] <07@rocket_thumped> yay sept.
[00:35] <07@Skyling> There are too many bests.
[00:35] <07@Leaff> Damn.
[00:35] <07@Sept> :D
[00:35] <07@southpaw> r_t, Arcade Fire is doing the majority of the music or all of the music for Wild Things I heard.
[00:35] <07@Skyling> This song reminds me of sept.
[00:35] <07@Skyling> And his maps.
[00:36] <07@rocket_thumped> southpaw, that would be really cool.
[00:36] <07@ortsz> Feel the tension.
12[00:36] <07@SlappyMcGee> I heard they were just throwing in two or three songs.
12[00:36] <07@SlappyMcGee> HE ALWAYS STARTS A FIGHT
12[00:36] <07@SlappyMcGee> SO THE NEIGHBORS CAN DANCE
[00:36] <07@Skyling> I never really liked this part.
[00:36] <07@rocket_thumped> I was wearing my Where the Wild Things Are shirt in Lawrence, southpaw...
[00:36] <07@southpaw> maybe so. Spike Jonze knows his shit though. I'm happy he's the one directing it.
[00:36] <07@rocket_thumped> ;-;
12[00:36] <07@SlappyMcGee> I fucking -love- this part.
[00:36] <07@rocket_thumped> Me too pawz.
[00:36] <07@Skyling> The police disco lights! 8)
12[00:36] <07@SlappyMcGee> That's such a cool concept.
[00:36] <07@Skyling> It's quite a colorful way to portray domestic abuse.
04[00:36] * @Leaff mentally notes to buy this album after we're done
04[00:36] * @ortsz · The Arcade Fire - Une année sans lumière [Funeral #03]
[00:37] <07@ortsz> This would be one of my favourites.
[00:37] <07@Skyling> Blah blah blah I hate Montreal
[00:37] <07@rocket_thumped> Owen Pallet does awesomeness with the strings.
[00:37] <07@Skyling> That's this song.
[00:37] <07@Leaff> Hahah.
[00:37] <07@southpaw> This is the only song I have issues with because I can't understand it because America sucks at teaching second languages.
[00:37] <07@southpaw> :(
[00:37] <07@Leaff> ;_;
[00:37] <07@Skyling> A year without light
[00:37] <07@Skyling> What a concept.
[00:37] <07@Sept> Speaking of Owen Pallett, I want his next album to come out! :(
[00:37] <07@rocket_thumped> Me too.
[00:37] <07@Skyling> MY EYES ARE SHOOTING SPARKS
[00:37] <07@Skyling> I LOVE THAT
[00:37] <07@rocket_thumped> That one cover he did was so awesome.. ;-;
12[00:37] <07@SlappyMcGee> I feel the same way about this song as Crown of Love, but I think I like the latter better.
[00:37] <07@Sept> Mmmmhm.
[00:38] <07@rocket_thumped> Crown of Love is like a disco at the end.
[00:38] <07@Sept> Crown of Love is probably my second favorite song off this album.
[00:38] <07@southpaw> this is along the same line.
[00:38] <07@Skyling> I really like the random "hoo"s Win throws in.
[00:38] <07@ortsz> Heh
[00:38] <07@southpaw> I think in terms of how this album is constructed is brilliant.
[00:38] <07@ortsz> .
[00:38] <07@Skyling> Oh, it wasn't there yet.
[00:38] <07@southpaw> Every song has a piece of another song on the album so that it's all connected.
12[00:38] <07@SlappyMcGee> This song feels really necessary, in a way, but I think that it's only necessary in how it juts up the beginning of the album.
[00:38] <07@Leaff> Hm.
[00:38] <07@Skyling> There it was! So cute!
12[00:39] <07@SlappyMcGee> Like In The Backseat does later.
[00:39] <07@Sept> southpaw, so it ain't so disjointed, it ain't sound rubbish, they playin' fresh.
[00:39] <07@southpaw> The chord progression for Neighborhood #1 is the same for #3 but set at a faster tempo.
12[00:39] <07@SlappyMcGee> or Haiti.
[00:39] <07@rocket_thumped> I like how it gets going.
04[00:39] * @riZ Now Playing: Haiti - Arcade Fire - Funeral
[00:39] <07@Skyling> Err, why is one major and one minor, southpaw? :/
[00:39] <07@southpaw> unless I'm getting my neighborhoods mixed up.
[00:39] <07@Skyling> riZ, what the fuck are you doing?
[00:39] <07@rocket_thumped> right........................................................................................................................................... here
[00:39] <07@ortsz> BAM
[00:39] <07@Skyling> WHEE
[00:39] <07@southpaw> playing it backwards apparently.
[00:39] <07@Skyling> I love their guitar sounds.
[00:39] <07@ortsz> Love the way this part starts.
[00:39] <07@Skyling> So much.
[00:39] <07@Sept> riZ goes at his own pace, Skyline.
[00:39] <07@Leaff> Oooh.
12[00:39] <07@SlappyMcGee> THIS IS SO AWESOME.
[00:39] <07@Sept> Don't yell at him.
04[00:40] * @southpaw turns it up.
[00:40] <07@Skyling> WAEHFWEF
[00:40] <07@Leaff> OH MAN. SWEET.
12[00:40] <07@SlappyMcGee> This portion of the song saved rock and roll.
[00:40] <07@Yahoozy> Man, I really have to thank "jamzftw", with his snazzy Green Day avatar, for putting this album on YouTube.
[00:40] <07@southpaw> Haha, we're starting Leaff on a new musical journey.
[00:40] <07@Leaff> :3
[00:40] <07@ortsz> POWER OUT GIRD YOUR LOINS
[00:40] <07@rocket_thumped> HAha

12[00:40] <07@SlappyMcGee> Like lightning horses.
[00:40] <07@rocket_thumped> Love the vox
[00:40] <07@Skyling> I love the bells.
[00:41] <07@Leaff> I used to not listen to a lot of music, Pawz. I recently've been getting in to more stuff.
[00:41] <07@Sept> I like Win.
[00:41] <07@southpaw> KIDS ARE SWINGING FROM THE POWER LINES, NOBODY CARES NOBODY MINDS!
12[00:41] <07@SlappyMcGee> I WENT OUT TO FIND SOME LIGHT, is awesome.
[00:41] <07@southpaw> *HOME SO
[00:41] <07@ortsz> WE FOUND THE LIGHT
[00:41] <07@southpaw> some of them big, some of them small...
[00:41] <07@southpaw> :D:D:D:D:d
[00:41] <07@southpaw> this is so powerful.
12[00:41] <07@SlappyMcGee> This song has one of the strongest narratives of the album, like Intervention does on Neon bible.
[00:41] <07@Skyling> JESUS CHRIST DON'T KEEP IT HID
[00:41] <07@Leaff> It is.
[00:41] <07@Skyling> OOOOOOOOOH
[00:42] <07@Skyling> OHOOOOOOOS
[00:42] <07@Skyling> HOSSHFWEFASD
[00:42] <07@southpaw> It's so personal. I almost feel like I was stranded with them in that blackout from listening to this.
12[00:42] <07@SlappyMcGee> The vocals are so desperate and personal, yeah.
[00:42] <07@Skyling> I WENT OUT INTO THE NIGHT
[00:42] <07@Leaff> Yeah.
[00:42] <07@toasters> LOOK AT THEM GO LOOK AT THEM GO

[00:42] <07@ortsz> Riff.
[00:43] <07@Skyling> I wish it was inside of me right now.
[00:43] <07@southpaw> Like I said, song-wise this is in the top 3.
[00:43] <07@Leaff> Damn. I /really/ need to buy this after it's done. ;D
12[00:43] <07@SlappyMcGee> It's occured to me that this listen is going to be pretty much unreadable later.
[00:43] <07@southpaw> hahaha
[00:43] <07@Skyling> Oh well.
[00:43] <07@Leaff> Heh.
[00:43] <07@Sept> :\/\/\
[00:43] <07@Skyling> when THE POWER'S OUT IN THE HEART OF MAN
[00:43] <07@Skyling> TAKE IT FROM YOUR HEART

[00:44] <07@Skyling> THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG
[00:44] <07@southpaw> I've listened to music so much through my subwoofer that now that I don't have it I always feel like my body is shaking the same way it would when I listen to music.
[00:44] <07@Sept> my name skylien ;-;
12[00:44] <07@SlappyMcGee> You find these lyrics sad, Skyline?
[00:45] <07@Skyling> YOUUUUUUUUR HANDDDDDDDDDDDASDF
12[00:45] <07@SlappyMcGee> I find them strongly optimistic.
[00:45] <07@ortsz> HA HA HAND
[00:45] <07@Skyling> I think they are sad.
[00:45] <07@southpaw> These lyrics are sad and powerful.
12[00:45] <07@SlappyMcGee> The end, anyway.
[00:45] <07@Skyling> Frantic, almost.
[00:45] <07@Skyling> WHERE'D YOU GO
[00:45] <07@Leaff> This is fantastic.
[00:45] <07@ortsz> DOOOOOOOO
[00:45] <07@Skyling> Have you listened to this album before, Leaff?
[00:45] <07@ortsz> DEEEEEEOOOW
[00:45] <07@ortsz> CRASH
[00:45] <07@Leaff> I haven't, Skyling.
[00:45] <07@ortsz> CRUNK
[00:45] <07@Skyling> What a distressed guitar.
12[00:45] <07@SlappyMcGee> I find the song to be about trying to find support from stuff like religion, and friendship, and feeling nothing, and having to support yourself. Like, the light is in your own heart.
12[00:45] <07@SlappyMcGee> That last chord was badass.
04[00:45] * @southpaw . the arcade fire . funeral . neighborhood #4 (7 kettles) *

[00:46] <07@Skyling> Oh, agreed.
[00:46] <07@southpaw> Time keeps creeping
[00:46] <07@Skyling> Great imagery.

[00:49] <07@Sept> Raising a baby on motor oil reminds me of this ;-; http://www.shanghaidaily.com/sp/article ... 407995.htm
12[00:49] <07@SlappyMcGee> Owen Pallett has scaped the perfect backdrop for these amazing lyrics.
[00:50] <07@southpaw> If you met Owen Pallett in an alley, what would you do to show him gratitude?
[00:50] <07@Skyling> What a tragic ending.

[00:51] <07@southpaw> this whole album is generally sad.
12[00:51] <07@SlappyMcGee> But it's stronger than the last one.
[00:51] <07@Skyling> THE SPARK IS NOT WITHIN ME
[00:51] <07@southpaw> the drive and the intent of the song is definitely more uplifting than the last. OH GOD STRINGS

[01:01] <07@Yahoozy> This albums going to get a 10/10 from Pitchfork when it's reissued.
12[01:01] <07@SlappyMcGee> Awesome, r_t.
[01:01] <07@Skyling> HAITI MON PAIS
[01:01] <07@ortsz> I love how this song even starts with the noise in the background that eventually take over at the end.
[01:01] <07@southpaw> It has to, Yahoozy.
[01:01] <07@rocket_thumped> Hope that doesn't offend you or anything.

[01:02] <02&LittleViking> Yessir?
[01:02] <07@Skyling> I don't understand most of this song.
[01:02] <07@Skyling> Also, krusch said this was his favorite Arcade Fire song.

[01:02] <Sept> A TWOFER
[01:02] <02&LittleViking> Oh, still doing a listen.
12[01:02] <07@SlappyMcGee> This is my least favorite of the album.
[01:02] <07@Skyling> UNMARKED GRAVES WHERE FLOWERS GROW
12[01:02] <07@SlappyMcGee> Far and away.
[01:02] <07@Skyling> IN THE RIVER WE WILL GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

[01:02] <07@Leaff> I probably can't stay for a second album if we do it. ;_;
[01:02] <07@southpaw> neither can I.
12[01:03] <07@SlappyMcGee> We aren't doing a second.
[01:03] <07@southpaw> unless y'all are doing Merriweather.

[01:03] <Sept> In mah HEART
[01:03] <07@southpaw> then I'll stay.

[01:03] <07@rocket_thumped> Merriweather instead..
[01:03] <07@Skyling> This is so tropical.
[01:03] <07@Skyling> LIFT YOUR SKINNY FISTS AGREED
[01:03] <Sept> Yahoozy, agreed.
[01:03] <07@Yahoozy> Contrast this vocal prowess with some instrumental prowess.
[01:03] <07@ortsz> Any of the above.
[01:03] <07@Skyling> I was going to go to bed early today.
[01:03] <07@ortsz> SOON WE WILL RECLAIM THE EARTH
[01:03] <07@southpaw> haha, ortsz, we should listen to Talk Talk again. :P
[01:03] <07@Skyling> But fuck that.
12[01:03] <07@SlappyMcGee> Haiti does sound extrmely tropical, which is fitting and just shows the level the arcade fire have embraced ambience into their music.
[01:03] <07@Skyling> Is this a bit of Haitian nationalism going on?
[01:04] <07@Leaff> Yeah, it is really tropical-feeling.
[01:04] <07@Skyling> This reminds me of history class. ;-;
[01:04] <07@southpaw> Tropic of Cancer?

12[01:04] <07@SlappyMcGee> This is about to get awesomesauce.

[01:05] <07@Skyling> I love the piano drone.
12[01:05] <07@SlappyMcGee> You literally can't watch even our Headbanger's Ball without getting some Rebellies.
[01:05] <07@Skyling> Sleeping is giving in no matter what the time is
12[01:05] <07@SlappyMcGee> FASTER THAN WITHOUT WATER

[01:11] <07@Skyling> the lightning bolt made enough heat

Hmm, I don't think we should do Pinkerton. I want to do an album that SlappyMcGee has and can participate in.

Does anybody have I Am The Fun Blame Monster by Menomena, and if so, when would be good to do a group listen?
If not, when could you get the album to do a group listen?

(10:04:37 PM) southpaw: I haven't actually listened to this album all the way through.
(10:04:47 PM) toasters: Really?
(10:04:53 PM) southpaw: Well, not the correct way.
(10:04:58 PM) Yahoozy: o_O
(10:05:02 PM) Yahoozy: Oh, listening. Right.
(10:05:06 PM) southpaw: The person who I got this from labeled them all wrong.
(10:05:16 PM) toasters: heh
(10:05:19 PM) southpaw: So the last song is labeled as the first song, the 2nd to last as the 2nd song, etc.
(10:05:37 PM) southpaw: I put it all in a playlist and turned off Album shuffle so it's playing the correct order this way.
(10:05:46 PM) southpaw: ^__^
(10:05:53 PM) southpaw: This is really cool with headphones.
(10:05:58 PM) toasters: My itunes orders songs pretty weird as well.
(10:06:30 PM) toasters: The piano bits are cool.
(10:06:31 PM) southpaw: Do you ever notice how some albums were made for listening to them with headphones?
(10:06:50 PM) southpaw: This seems to be one of those albums.
(10:07:01 PM) toasters: Or they're made to blare from your car.
(10:07:29 PM) southpaw: haha, I hate the people with the huge bass speaker in their car, but I realize it's mostly because I don't have a car with a huge bass speaker in it.
(10:07:56 PM) ***southpaw . menomena . i am the fun blame monster! . the late great libido *
(10:07:57 PM) toasters: lol
(10:08:02 PM) toasters: oh, this one is my favorite
(10:08:13 PM) southpaw: Is it? It's really calm and the bass is nice.
(10:08:22 PM) southpaw: oh, n/m about the calm part.
(10:08:24 PM) southpaw: haha
(10:08:28 PM) toasters: hehe, it picks up
(10:09:02 PM) southpaw: I should buy some of their other albums.
(10:09:36 PM) toasters: Friend and Foe is good too.
(10:10:24 PM) southpaw: Do they have any others?
(10:10:44 PM) toasters: those are the only two I've listened to
(10:10:55 PM) southpaw: My friend turned me on to this band a while back but I think he only has those two albums.
(10:11:36 PM) southpaw: heh, this is such an experiment in dynamic changes.
(10:12:11 PM) toasters: they shift a lot, yeah
(10:12:20 PM) toasters: you're right, this is really great in headphones
(10:12:53 PM) ***southpaw . menomena . i am the fun blame monster! . e is stable *
(10:13:23 PM) southpaw: heh, I can see why they named this song what they did.

(10:15:18 PM) toasters: ha, their website is pretty messed up
(10:16:07 PM) southpaw: oh, they're from Portland!
(10:16:12 PM) southpaw: hhahaha, I didn't know that.
(10:16:41 PM) toasters: you're on the west coast too right?
(10:17:33 PM) southpaw: Yeah.
(10:17:36 PM) southpaw: Well, I was.
(10:17:49 PM) southpaw: I'm living in Kansas probably until December.
(10:18:00 PM) toasters: Ah.
(10:18:13 PM) ***southpaw . menomena . i am the fun blame monster! . twenty cell revolt *
(10:18:19 PM) southpaw: I like this song.
(10:18:32 PM) toasters: the saxophone that comes up is cool
(10:18:35 PM) southpaw: hell yes.
(10:19:08 PM) southpaw: I like how they let the drums play without any other instruments playing in a lot of their songs.
(10:19:37 PM) southpaw: Maybe it's just me and growing up with a drummer.
(10:19:58 PM) toasters: Haha, maybe.
(10:20:13 PM) southpaw: My friends got me this book called "The Man Book" before I left for Kansas and they listed some of the top drummers ever.
(10:20:32 PM) southpaw: But I was extremely pissed when I saw they didn't list Mitch Mitchell (Jimi Hendrix's drummer).
(10:20:52 PM) Sept: southpaw, what is "The Man Book" about?
(10:20:56 PM) southpaw: The guy basically invented fusion rock drumming.
(10:21:46 PM) toasters: Who was on there?
(10:21:55 PM) southpaw: A lot of things that have to do with being a man, like the difference between 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree murder to knowing how to measure breast sizes.
(10:22:12 PM) ***southpaw . menomena . i am the fun blame monster! . strongest man in the world *
(10:22:13 PM) KinGAleX [[email protected]] entered the room.

(10:22:17 PM) southpaw: This is my favourite song on the album.
(10:22:34 PM) Sept: GEE. THANKS SOUTHPAW.
(10:22:51 PM) Yahoozy: YEAH, FUCKING ASSHOLE.
(10:23:04 PM) southpaw: This last May when my friends and I were driving up to Sasquatch in Washington I put this song on as we were driving up this huge hill that overlooked this huge valley below us.
(10:23:44 PM) Sept: Wait.
(10:23:45 PM) Sept: Shit.
(10:23:53 PM) Sept: I didn't see you actually said what it was about.
(10:23:55 PM) Sept: Missed it.
(10:23:56 PM) Sept: >_>
(10:23:58 PM) southpaw: And then about halfway through the song we started down the other side of the hill while we were coasting the whole way down.
(10:24:04 PM) Sept: I'll just shut up now. ;-;
(10:24:07 PM) southpaw: No worries, Sept.
(10:24:12 PM) toasters: Nice.
(10:24:20 PM) toasters: I kinda get late night city driving vibes from this.
(10:24:23 PM) southpaw: It was really perfect.
(10:24:38 PM) Sept: And what would a book called, "The Man Book" have to do with measuring breast sizes if it's about men?
(10:24:46 PM) Sept: Atleast, that's what the title implies.
(10:24:46 PM) southpaw: I AM... FUSED OUT OF IRON... IRON...
(10:25:19 PM) southpaw: Because it takes a man to be able to judge the breast size of a woman from 20 ft. away by looking at her.
(10:25:31 PM) Sept: Why?
(10:25:41 PM) southpaw: That was the original way they measured your 20/20 vision.
(10:25:51 PM) toasters: lol
(10:26:08 PM) Sept: southpaw, whoever wrote that book should jump off a cliff.
(10:26:12 PM) southpaw: However many sizes you were off was how many numbers they took off each eye.
(10:28:00 PM) ***southpaw . menomena . i am the fun blame monster! . oahu *
(10:28:10 PM) southpaw: this has a really great guitar
(10:28:13 PM) southpaw: sound.
(10:28:15 PM) toasters: that guitar is really mellow
(10:28:28 PM) KinGAleX left the room (quit: Ping timeout).
(10:28:37 PM) southpaw: I should float down the river with this song playing at night.
(10:28:56 PM) southpaw: Except boating at night would probably make me feel lonely.
(10:29:01 PM) southpaw: And this song wouldn't help. ;_;
(10:29:09 PM) toasters: I love how it snuck into both my eardrums
(10:29:21 PM) toasters: that was cool
(10:29:23 PM) southpaw: mhmmmmm :) headphones do this album justice.
(10:30:14 PM) toasters: If I had bought the CD, I would have gotten a flipbook!
(10:30:56 PM) southpaw: what?! hahaha
(10:31:14 PM) southpaw: I love it when bands do something cool like that.
(10:31:50 PM) toasters: Geez, 80 pages too.
(10:31:59 PM) southpaw: o)))o
(10:32:26 PM) southpaw: that's huge. I wonder how they packed that into the case...
(10:32:34 PM) toasters: no clue..
(10:32:42 PM) toasters: yeah, they seem to be one of those quirky bands
(10:32:56 PM) southpaw: One of the guys looks like someone who used o come into my mom's motorcycle shop.

(10:33:41 PM) toasters: I don't really know anybody in the music business
(10:33:44 PM) southpaw: I don't like this song very much.
(10:34:08 PM) southpaw: not the beginning at least. I can't decide about later on in the song.
(10:34:11 PM) toasters: I wonder who's singing.
(10:34:21 PM) toasters: It's not the same guy I don't think.
(10:34:23 PM) southpaw: haha, I love how we really know nothing about this band.
(10:34:44 PM) southpaw: It's definitely one of the other dudes.
(10:35:13 PM) southpaw: This part is cool.
(10:35:26 PM) toasters: hehe, beyond the music I'm pretty clueless
(10:35:32 PM) toasters: ah well
(10:36:01 PM) southpaw: They do a really great job of keeping the different sections of each song unique but still blend well with the whole song in general.

(10:38:21 PM) toasters: it's a nice change
(10:38:42 PM) southpaw: I agree.
(10:39:17 PM) southpaw: I like how they don't really try to change that aspect of the song throughout the whole thing.
(10:39:39 PM) toasters: The drums provided a nice build up.
(10:39:54 PM) toasters: I actually would have liked it to be longer.
(10:40:02 PM) southpaw: yeah, that's true.

(10:41:19 PM) southpaw: Or an hour.
(10:41:26 PM) southpaw: somewhere around there.
(10:42:01 PM) toasters: Hehe, these lyrics are pretty weird

(10:43:21 PM) southpaw: Wow, great drumming.

(10:44:00 PM) southpaw: I wonder which one of them does the drumming.

Knopf detailed these issues in an interview in Spin: "Systems that failed (and had to be replaced) during the tour included the following: tires, muffler, brake, master cylinder, exhaust manifold, windshield wipers, horn, side-view mirrors (both fell off). Oh, and did I mention that there were two fires? Not one. Two. This vehicle promptly earned the moniker 'RV Danger.'"

(10:46:57 PM) toasters: 1977?

(10:47:12 PM) southpaw: It was probably really cheap.

(10:50:42 PM) southpaw: that.. sounds horribly wrong.
(10:50:49 PM) toasters: <PALEMOON> four dicks is an eight - minute ballad
(10:50:52 PM) toasters: I was right
(10:50:57 PM) southpaw: wow.
(10:51:12 PM) southpaw: only 8 minutes? You'd think 4 dicks would make at least a 36-minute ballad.

Me and Southy were talking on IRC, we're trying to organise a listening of Vsnares' rossz csillag alatt született. We assume Tanner, Yahoozy and Skyline will, but whoever else wants in, make yourself known.

[18:55:09] <@Skyline> Her intonation and everything is just so perfect.
[18:55:24] <@southpaw> Skyline, did I tell you about the record sleeve that Ys comes in?
[18:55:25] <@Skyline> There is a rusty light on the pines tonight.

[18:55:59] <@Stephen> The strings here are awesome
[18:56:03] <@southpaw> Oh yes.
[18:56:10] <@Stephen> It sounds almost bitonal.
[18:56:23] <@Skyline> The nice distinction for this song from the rest of the album is the very leisurely pace.

[18:57:06] <@southpaw> BY THE RIVER
[18:57:10] <@Stephen> Yeah.
[18:57:12] <@Skyline> Now, this song seems to deal with some form of tragic event in her life.

[18:57:50] <@Stephen> You're slow, if that just came up.
[18:57:55] <@Skyline> ;-;

[19:15:48] <@Skyline> LEFT THERE
[19:15:51] <@Skyline> ONE BEAR LEFT BEAR
[19:15:53] <@Skyline> LEFT THERE
[19:15:54] <@Skyline> LEFT THERE
[19:15:58] <@Skyline> ONE BEAR, STEP CLEAR OF BEAR
[19:16:07] <@Skyline> Ahh, I love this ending.
[19:16:09] <@Skyline> Perfect resolutions.
[19:16:24] <@Skyline> Soo-ooner or later you'll bear your teeth...
[19:16:42] <@Skyline> I suppose we should pause.
[19:16:48] <@southpaw> Yeah.
[19:16:50] <@Stephen> Yeah.
[19:16:51] <@southpaw> Or no
[19:16:55] <@Stephen> Oh
[19:16:57] <@Skyline> ...
[19:16:58] * @Stephen is listening to Joanna Newsom - Monkey & Bear - Time: 9:21/9:27
[19:17:00] <@Stephen> Well
[19:17:01] <@southpaw> Sawdust & Diamonds is on this side.
[19:17:04] <@Skyline> GAH
[19:17:09] <@Skyline> Did it start yet?
[19:17:13] * @Stephen is listening to Joanna Newsom - Sawdust & Diamonds - Time: 0:09/9:54
[19:17:14] <@southpaw> Yes
[19:17:20] <@southpaw> I'm a bit behind.
[19:17:28] <@Skyline> Can I get a time, Stephen?
[19:17:29] <@Stephen> Probably same as me now.
[19:17:31] * @Stephen is listening to Joanna Newsom - Sawdust & Diamonds - Time: 0:29/9:54
[19:17:36] <@Skyline> Ah, I caught up.
[19:17:50] <@Skyline> Joanna had a dream involving a staircase that went on forever.
[19:17:57] <@Stephen> The thing with the bell reminds me of Hyperballad.
[19:17:58] <@Skyline> I think. Something like that, and a bell was involved.
[19:18:00] <@Stephen> Which is a good thing.
[19:18:24] <@Skyline> This song is so great. It contemplates the concept of "forever" and death and whatnot. It's deep stuff. :o
[19:18:44] <@Skyline> And she plays her harp so well.
[19:18:53] <@Skyline> See the wires, the wires, the wires
[19:19:22] <@Skyline> Also, the whole dove thing is interesting.
[19:19:26] * &Yanni is away: Out
[19:19:30] <@Skyline> I wonder what it represents.
[19:20:32] <@Skyline> Please, please!
[19:20:39] <@Skyline> NO YOU OUGHT NOT
[19:20:58] <@Skyline> It's like she's in some sort of play involving a fake angel and a fake dove.
[19:21:05] * @gloomp is away: Television.
[19:21:27] <@Skyline> The holiest belfry burns sky high
[19:21:43] <@Skyline> I love the little chord addition she adds right... there
[19:22:04] <@southpaw> Gah
[19:22:09] <@Skyline> And this part where she transitions into 4 is sort of awkward at first, but the long face part is amazing.
[19:22:12] <@southpaw> I've missed a whole lot of this song because of the phone.
[19:22:42] <@Skyline> Sing I will swallow your sadness, and eat your cold clay- just to lift your long face.
[19:22:49] <@southpaw> I realize too that I haven't listened to this album at all. I think this is my second or third time listening to it all the way through.
[19:22:54] <@Stephen> Haha, I just realised that all of that last page was Skyline.
[19:23:08] <@Skyline> AND THOUGH OUR BODIES RECOIL FROM THE GRIP OF THE SOILD
[19:23:11] <@Skyline> WHY THE LONG FACE?
[19:23:18] <@Skyline> Man. I love that.
[19:23:22] <@Stephen> This is such a thing to listen to from start to finish, though.
[19:23:42] <@Skyline> Pitch we pale-faced and grave
[19:23:43] <@Stephen> Joanna is one of the few artists whom is actually appreciated by my friends
[19:23:53] <@southpaw> True. I remember really liking all these songs except Monkey & Bear. That's probably my least favourite.
[19:24:01] <@Skyline> This part where the bell returns... the first time I listened to this I was so stunned.
[19:24:09] <@Stephen> The syncopation here is amazing.
[19:24:13] <@Skyline> The tension is building.
[19:24:15] <@Skyline> Oh, yeah.
[19:24:21] <@Skyline> And the damnable bell!
[19:24:37] <@Skyline> And it tolls, well I believe that it tolls - It tolls for me!
[19:24:44] <@Stephen> Well, I believe that it tolls... that it tolls FOR ME!
[19:24:45] <@Skyline> I think this might be about her being afraid of death.
[19:25:00] <@Skyline> The bells chasing after her and tolling for her.
[19:25:30] <@Skyline> I wasn't born of a whistle or milked from a thistle at twilight!
[19:25:35] <@Stephen> Sprung out fully formed!
[19:25:40] <@Skyline> No, I was all horns and thorns, sprung out fully formed and upright!
[19:25:41] <@Stephen> Check out the bass
[19:25:47] <@Skyline> Her left hand.
[19:25:49] <@southpaw> haha, I'm so far behind.
[19:25:55] <@Stephen> OHHHHHHHOHOHOOOHHH DESIRE
[19:26:03] <@Skyline> Desire... oh...
[19:26:07] <@southpaw> DESIRE
[19:26:07] <@Skyline> How contemplative this is.
[19:26:15] <@Stephen> I'm SO INTERESTED in Joanna Newsom's left hand
[19:26:17] <@Stephen> UNNNGHHH
[19:26:24] <@Skyline> From the top of the flight of the wide, white white stairs,
[19:26:26] <@southpaw> haha
[19:26:35] <@Skyline> Through the rest of my life - do you wait for me there?
[19:26:41] <@Skyline> Such a perfect ending.
[19:26:45] <@southpaw> stairs
[19:26:49] <@southpaw> I'm soooooo far behind.
[19:26:51] <@Skyline> We must pause, right?
[19:26:53] <@Stephen> Pause?
[19:26:55] <@southpaw> at the end, yeah.
[19:27:11] <@Stephen> Yeah, we were there :P
[19:27:18] <@Skyline> It's a good song to contemplate afterwards anyway.
[19:28:15] <@southpaw> OKAY GO!
[19:28:25] * @Skyline is listening to Joanna Newsom - Only Skin
[19:28:26] * @Stephen is listening to Joanna Newsom - Only Skin - Time: 0:02/16:51
[19:28:28] <@southpaw> I can't wait to get this album onto my computer.
[19:28:34] * @southpaw . joanna newsom . ys . only skin *
[19:28:34] <@Stephen> BEHIND AGAIN
[19:28:41] <@southpaw> OH WELL YOU:LL GET THERE
[19:28:44] <@Stephen> That squeak is...
[19:28:45] <@Stephen> Shit
[19:28:49] <@Stephen> Weird.
[19:29:03] <@Skyline> It seems like her love interest here is facing post-war disillusionment, or just got injured, and she has to take care of him.
[19:29:11] <@Skyline> Sky was a breadroll soaking in a milk bowl
[19:29:14] <@Stephen> If it wasn't Joanna, I'd have recommended her seeing a doctor.
[19:29:21] <@Skyline> This song.
[19:29:23] <@Skyline> This fucking song.
[19:29:27] <@Skyline> Gah.
[19:29:30] <@southpaw> Beautiful.
[19:29:31] <@Stephen> OOOH THIS SONG
[19:29:33] <@Skyline> For alive you will evermore be!
[19:29:41] <@Stephen> http://captainsdead.com/wp-content/uplo ... oannan.jpg
[19:29:51] <@Skyline> I think she later seems to broaden this song into simply her role as a woman.
[19:30:06] <@Skyline> Great harp bass!
[19:30:09] <@southpaw> Stephen, Skyline and LV and Tanner and Yahoozy all hate that picture.
[19:30:23] <@Skyline> The firebreather is beneath the clover
[19:30:26] <@Skyline> More clay.
[19:30:31] <@Skyline> This part is so cryptic.
[19:30:34] <@Stephen> Whys?
[19:30:40] <@Skyline> Alright, now she's all into the healing thing.
[19:30:46] <@southpaw> Hah, I don't know.
[19:30:54] <@Skyline> Apply it gently to the love you've lent me
[19:31:06] <@Skyline> So much alliteration!
[19:31:17] <@southpaw> I think it's colorful and beautiful.
[19:31:18] <@Stephen> I suppose there are kind of better ones of her.
[19:31:38] <@Skyline> Press on me, we are restless things
[19:31:48] <@Skyline> Whips of seaweed are swaddling
[19:31:58] <@Skyline> She is taking care of a baby with seaweed? :/
[19:32:18] <@southpaw> Skyline, there is no alliteration.
[19:32:21] <@Skyline> Huh, I just realized how much water / ocean imagery there is in this song.
[19:32:22] <@Skyline> album
[19:32:26] <@southpaw> Are you sure you know what an alliteration is?
[19:32:49] <@Skyline> ...
[19:32:51] <@southpaw> Just because 3 words start with the same letter in a sentence doesn't make it an alliteration...
[19:33:12] <@Skyline> SOUTHPAW
[19:33:22] <@southpaw> ;---------;
[19:33:27] * @southpaw hides.
[19:33:35] <@Skyline> southpaw, read this stanza.
[19:33:36] <@Skyline> while the river was twisting and braiding, the bait bobbed
[19:33:36] <@Skyline> and the string sobbed, as it cut through the hustling breeze
[19:33:36] <@Skyline> and I watched how the water was kneading so neatly
[19:33:49] <@Skyline> BRAIDING BAIT BOBBED
[19:33:51] <@southpaw> braiding - bait - bobbed
[19:33:51] <@Skyline> STRING SOBBED
[19:33:56] <@Skyline> KNEADING NEATLY
[19:33:56] <@southpaw> breeze
[19:34:02] <@Skyline> I love this part.
[19:34:04] <@southpaw> haha
[19:34:06] <@Stephen> SHALLOWWWW
[19:34:08] <@Stephen> WATTERRRRR
[19:34:10] <@Skyline> Warm vs. cool chords.
[19:34:16] <@Skyline> The seagull weeps, "so long..."
[19:34:21] <@southpaw> I'm loving that. What is that underneath the whole passage?
[19:34:21] <@Stephen> Trudgin' along.
[19:34:25] <@Skyline> I love this be a woman part.
[19:34:30] <@southpaw> A violin?
[19:34:40] <@Skyline> I don't get the candy in pockets part.
[19:34:40] <@Stephen> This is my favourite melody on the album.
[19:34:41] <@southpaw> The electric guitar?
[19:34:46] <@Skyline> Is she supposed to be a whore or something?
[19:34:58] <@southpaw> This is such an awesome movement.
[19:35:06] <@Skyline> Also, I love the syssaphus reference.
[19:35:19] <@Skyline> sysyphus
[19:35:24] <@Skyline> Err...
[19:35:27] <@Skyline> sisyphus
[19:35:34] <@Stephen> Scrap of sassrafass eh Sisyphus?!
[19:35:38] <@southpaw> gah, <3
[19:35:44] <@Skyline> tiny nooses, safe from everyone
[19:35:46] <@Stephen> Oh jeez, I just got the Sisyphus reference.
[19:35:49] * @southpaw turns the volume up.
[19:35:51] <@Skyline> ISN'T IT AMAZING STEPHEN
[19:35:55] <@Skyline> OH WE FELT THE SPRAY OF THE WAVES
[19:36:04] <@Stephen> OH SHI
[19:36:12] <@Skyline> Awful atoll!
[19:36:18] <@Skyline> Oh incalculable!
[19:36:30] <@Skyline> I love the story about the injured bird coming up.
[19:36:33] <@Skyline> It's so amazing.
[19:36:43] <@southpaw> :/
[19:36:47] <@Skyline> And then she drops "gun"
[19:36:51] <@Skyline> What a contrast.
[19:36:53] <@southpaw> I'm obviously not enjoying this as much as you guys ;-;
[19:36:59] <@Skyline> Failing this!
[19:37:04] <@Skyline> Faaaaaaaaaailing this!
[19:37:07] <@Skyline> FOLLOW ME
[19:37:11] <@southpaw> I mean, I love the music, but I'm not down with the lyrics or nothin'
[19:37:11] <@Skyline> MY SWEETEST FRIEND
[19:37:13] <@Stephen> I am getting into it more than usual.
[19:37:22] <@Skyline> It takes a few listens, southpaw.
[19:37:31] <@Skyline> Lay it down nice and slow! There is nowhere to go, save up...
[19:37:36] <@Stephen> You need to have heard it like 10 times to get any lyrics.
[19:37:38] <@Skyline> Yeah.
[19:37:42] <@southpaw> meh
[19:37:44] <@Skyline> Now, by baby here...
[19:37:49] <@Skyline> Does she mean actual baby or husband?
[19:37:50] <@Stephen> Skyline's still more into it than me.
[19:37:59] <@southpaw> hahaha
[19:38:00] <@Stephen> I can't get a narrative, but I like the little bits.
[19:38:06] <@Skyline> While elsewhere estuaries of wax-white wind, endlessly towards seashores unmapped
[19:38:09] <@Skyline> AH
[19:38:10] <@Skyline> YES
[19:38:12] <@Skyline> THIS FUCKING STORY
[19:38:14] <@Skyline> ABOUT THE BIRD
[19:38:17] <@Skyline> SOG OOD
[19:38:26] <@Skyline> We stood and watched her gape like a rattlesnake!
[19:38:36] <@southpaw> I think my downfall about this is that it's not on CD so the whole album is broken up into parts and that doesn't seem conducive to listening to it.
[19:38:57] <@Skyline> Said, "Dog nor vulture nor cat shall toy with you! And though you died, bird, you will have a fine view..."
[19:39:15] <@Skyline> And now, when she gets to the treetop...
[19:39:18] <@Skyline> The bird...
[19:39:24] <@Skyline> It flies away, though previously dead. ;-;
[19:39:35] <@Skyline> But back in the world that moves often according to these clues,
[19:39:50] <@Skyline> And transition back to domestic relationships.
[19:40:02] <@Emmy> May I ask what album this is?
[19:40:15] <@Skyline> Life is thundering blissful towards death in a stampede of His fumbling green gentleness
[19:40:21] <@Skyline> That is such an amazing line.
[19:40:31] <@Stephen> Joanna has 9009008 plays on last.fm O_O
[19:40:40] <@Skyline> "Ys" by Joanna Newsom, Emmy.
[19:40:41] <@Stephen> I was one moment off perfection, perhaps.
[19:40:45] <@Emmy> Thanks.
[19:40:58] <@Skyline> Then down and down and down and down and down and deeper...
[19:41:00] <@Skyline> Stoke without sound!
[19:41:04] * @Emmy goes to find said album!
[19:41:04] <@southpaw> Pause at the end.
[19:41:06] <@Skyline> The blameless flames, you endless sleeper!
[19:41:14] <@Skyline> Through fire below and fire above and fire within,
[19:41:17] <@southpaw> I gotta flip it for Cosmia.
[19:41:23] <@Skyline> Sleep through the things that couldn't have been if you hadn't have been!
[19:41:36] <@southpaw> hhahah, I feel like listening to an 8bc song on the computer while listening to Cosmia.
[19:41:39] <@southpaw> I don't know why.
[19:41:41] <@Skyline> I definitely have to print the lyrics for this album and annotate them all.
[19:42:11] <@southpaw> I could take high-definition pictures of the lyric pages, Skyline.
[19:42:12] <@Skyline> And now this part is so good! She mocks a conversation between her needy spouse and her desperate willingness to help him!
[19:42:17] <@southpaw> And send them to you like for Strawberry Jam. :P
[19:42:26] <@Skyline> Oh, I forgot about that. ;-;
[19:42:31] <@southpaw> haha
[19:42:36] <@southpaw> I don't know why you keep forgetting <about that.
[19:42:41] <@Skyline> This song really reveals how old-fashioned Joanna Newsom's morals are involving love.
[19:42:46] <@southpaw> I've mentioned it at least 7 or 300 times.
[19:42:54] <@Skyline> When the bough breaks... nursery rhyme allusion.
[19:43:06] <@Skyline> THINK OF YOUR POOR MOTHERS GONE TO THE WAVES
[19:43:19] <@Skyline> Come across the desert with no shoes on!
[19:43:25] <@Stephen> This banjo is pretty violent.
[19:43:25] <@Skyline> I LOVE YOU TRUUUUULY OR I LOVE NO ONE
[19:43:31] <@Skyline> This part is great.
[19:43:36] <@Skyline> The harp is like a music box.
[19:43:53] <@southpaw> I love the guy who is doing the background vocals.
[19:43:57] <@Stephen> Yeah.
[19:44:04] <@Skyline> Why would you say... that I was the last one?
[19:44:23] <@Skyline> I'm thinking the fire motif has something to do with energy or lust for life.
[19:44:25] <@southpaw> It's like a... a bass movement without a bass instrument.
[19:44:42] <@southpaw> Skyline, you're very analytical of this album.
[19:44:54] <@Skyline> Then all I can do is do; my darling, right by you...
[19:45:16] <@Skyline> Yeah, I've recently begun to sorta pick it apart, southpaw.
[19:45:22] <@southpaw> pause
[19:45:49] <@Skyline> I wonder what my play count is...
[19:46:08] <@southpaw> GO
[19:46:11] <@southpaw> Stephen
[19:46:12] <@southpaw> GO
[19:46:18] <@Stephen> GO?
[19:46:19] <@Skyline> This song mostly deals with the death of one of her close friends.
[19:46:26] <@Stephen> Oh
[19:46:30] <@Skyline> When you ate, I saw your eyelashes...
[19:46:32] <@Stephen> I didn't pause, sorry.
[19:46:33] * @Stephen is listening to Joanna Newsom - Cosmia - Time: 1:16/7:16
[19:46:35] <@Skyline> Saw them shake like wind on rushes!
[19:46:37] <@southpaw> Oh no worries. :P
[19:46:38] <@Skyline> RESTART D:<
[19:46:42] <@Skyline> Just kidding.
[19:46:51] <@southpaw> Nah, no big deal. I am the odd one out.
[19:46:53] <@Skyline> She recieved a phone call and this actually happened, apparently.
[19:46:54] * @Stephen is listening to Joanna Newsom - Cosmia - Time: 0:59/7:16
[19:46:57] <@Stephen> Well
[19:47:03] <@Stephen> Am I right here?
[19:47:04] <@Skyline> :55
[19:47:05] <@southpaw> I want to listen to this song while outside running on Mt. Tabor in the dark.
[19:47:11] <@Skyline> And I miss your precious heart!
[19:47:20] <@southpaw> Maybe biking...
[19:47:27] <@Skyline> The chord progressions of this song are amazing.
[19:47:34] <@southpaw> with my friends Alex and Spencer.
[19:47:36] <@Skyline> I think this rose petal part may be a funeral...
[19:47:49] <@Stephen> http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/_/408 ... Newsom.jpg
[19:47:52] <@Skyline> This part is very old-fashioned and bluesy.
[19:47:56] <@Skyline> Almost like jazz.
[19:48:16] <@Skyline> I think keeping the night from coming in refers to her resistance to grieving over her friend.
[19:48:28] <@Skyline> Also, she really did fast for a few days by a river after the death.
[19:48:54] <@Skyline> I'll sleep through the rest of my days...
[19:49:09] <@Skyline> Nice little waltz section.
[19:49:15] <@Skyline> AND STEPHEN HELLA SYNCOPATION
[19:49:30] <@Stephen> Yeahhhzzz
[19:49:34] <@Skyline> Why've you gone away?!
[19:49:43] <@Skyline> Seven suns, seven suns away!
[19:49:58] <@Skyline> I love the accordion.
[19:50:05] <@Skyline> Don't come near me, don't go missin'!
[19:50:09] <@Stephen> This solo is nice :)
[19:50:16] <@Skyline> And in the lysome light of evening... help me, cosmia, I'm grieving
[19:50:20] <@Skyline> The moth analogy is good.
[19:50:55] <@Skyline> I'm not sure what it's exactly about yet... something about living your whole life just fixated on the glowing light... Heaven, maybe?
[19:51:13] <@Skyline> Dust hearts and flour wings is very like... our bodies on earth are no good
[19:51:29] <@Skyline> Wild cosmia, what have you seen?
[19:51:32] <@Stephen> Is Cosmia any sort of actual deity?
[19:51:38] <@Emmy> good night.
[19:51:39] <@Skyline> It's a species of moth.
[19:51:44] <@Stephen> Oh, ok.
[19:51:50] <@Skyline> Water were your limbs, and the fire was your hair!
[19:51:58] <@Skyline> A lot of water / fire parallels.
[19:52:03] * @Emmy ([email protected]) Quit (Quit: Haaauuu~)
[19:52:05] <@Skyline> Gah, so good, strings.
[19:52:18] <@Skyline> Will you call me when you get there...
[19:52:31] <@Skyline> AND MISS
[19:52:32] <@Stephen> AND MISS AND MISS AND MISS
[19:52:32] <@Skyline> AND MISS
[19:52:33] <@Skyline> AND MISS
[19:52:34] <@Skyline> AND MISS
[19:52:36] <@Skyline> AND MISS
[19:52:37] <@Skyline> AND MISS
[19:52:38] <@Skyline> AND MISS
[19:52:39] <@Skyline> AND MISS
[19:52:40] <@Skyline> YOUR HEART
[19:52:58] <@southpaw> heh
[19:53:01] <@Skyline> But release your precious heart to its feast for precious hearts
[19:53:03] <@Stephen> jhasfdjs\fvdl\shvd[zso\iuduzo\idc
[19:53:08] <@Skyline> This is so damn good.
[19:53:23] <@southpaw> Maybe on the beach instead of Mt. Tabor...
[19:53:31] <@Skyline> I love that album so much.
[19:53:37] <@Skyline> It's definitely in my top 3.
[19:53:38] <@Stephen> Yeah, that ruled.
[19:53:49] <@southpaw> Great listening :D

I know I'm not exactly a musical expert, and no one in the community really looks to me for opinions, but maybe we could set up a listen to Reservoir, by Fanfarlo? It seems like an album the community would like, but that's relatively undiscovered.
People write to me and say, "I’m giving up, you’re not talking to me." I just write them a simple message like, "Never give up," you know? And it changes their life

Nobody respects you because we recommend you Fanfarlo and then you try and recommend Fanfarlo to us.

[14:02] <@southpaw> Classics is best.
[14:02] <@southpaw> I think after listening to LP3 enough that Classics is their best stuff ever.
[14:02] <@gloomp> I don't have Classics.
[14:02] <@southpaw> I'd be down to listen to Saint Dymphna if gloomp and toasters are down.

[14:07] <@southpaw> I love the almost random beginning to this album.
[14:07] <@toasters> i like the shimmery bits
[14:07] <@gloomp> It's like all the music suddenly cascades out of a hole in the wall.
[14:08] <@southpaw> ...and cue drum beat.
[14:08] <@gloomp> Then it spreads and pools out, and it gains more form as it does so.
[14:09] <@southpaw> This has a really Persian feel to it for some reason.
[14:09] <@gloomp> It does.
[14:10] <@gloomp> You wouldn't think a bunch of Brooklynites made it!
[14:10] <@southpaw> I mean, besides the cover, I think I could see Pharisees dancing to this. :P
[14:11] <@southpaw> Haha, well here comes the electronic analog bass.
[14:11] <@gloomp> Indeed.
[14:11] <@southpaw> that is an oxymoron, isn't it. :/

[14:16] <@gloomp> This album is so smooth.
[14:16] <@toasters> i am looking forward to a new computer, but not moving all my music
[14:17] <@southpaw> It's built very intuitively. Although it all sounds like it makes sense it doesn't sound formulated which is perfection as far as I'm concerned.
[14:17] <@toasters> i like how there always seems to be an easter flair in every song

[14:18] <@southpaw> :P
[14:18] <@toasters> actually, this reminds me of a MBV song
[14:19] <@gloomp> Haha. There are so many unspellable sounds here.
[14:19] <@gloomp> I love it.
[14:19] <@southpaw> haha that would be crazy if you could spell out noises accurately so that a person could pronounce them accurately.
[14:20] <@gloomp> Haha, that could've made a great Monty Python sketch or something.
[14:20] <@toasters> i am listening to Loveless after this, i could swear the wzehehezzzzzehew bit sounds exactly one of its songs
[14:20] <@southpaw> Someone just opens their mouth and is able to pronounce the sound of a bear fishing in the water.
[14:21] <@southpaw> WHEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEWwwwww

I'm not recommending it, guys. I had a huge talk with gloomp on the irc on what he thought I should pick for a group listen, and he said it should be something that some people know and some don't, so that it has credible supporters and a point of sharing. There are plenty of people on #music who I've talked to who have never given it a listen and might be interested.
People write to me and say, "I’m giving up, you’re not talking to me." I just write them a simple message like, "Never give up," you know? And it changes their life

It is, but not to you. Obviously, people recommend music to other people, and those people recommend it to their friends or acquaintances - that's how music gets spread around. If you can't name one band someone else has recommended to you and you in turn have passed along, then your point's valid. Otherwise, your hypocrisy defeats it.

Are you under the impression that you were the only person somebody around here approached with this recommendation? Recommendations are great if you're actively acquiring new music. But you effectively tried to take a band somebody from around here showed you and flip it into a band you're showing to people around here. I'm not saying that showing new music to people is a bad thing, but it /is/ irritating for you to constantly reflect back on us with your "not many people around here have heard this".

I don't see any difference between this and, say, a political campaign. It's as if you actively convert me to libertarianism and I embrace the party as being a great thing. Then, when I set up a sign on my front lawn supporting Bob Barr, you rip it out of the ground and argue to me about how I should keep my beliefs private.
People write to me and say, "I’m giving up, you’re not talking to me." I just write them a simple message like, "Never give up," you know? And it changes their life
