I just got it. far out it's so good. some songs on here are just classics. Like Myrrhman said. they sound really different, i mean i still instantly recognised em when i heard it play in the shop where i bought it. But it's like.. i can't really explain it well. When Myrrhman see's this hopefully he can explain ;P

Currently the single My Girls is my favourite. But it's probable (it happens with most albums) that others that i didn't like will grow on me immensely (which happened so much with feels, loch raven was at first 'meh' but turned into one of my favourite songs on my playlist)

anyway, discuss guys

oh! and by the way the album art is trippy, and inside pretty beautiful. (like on the inside of the cover. well kinda the inside of the cover which is the actual cover. but heh. how confusing)

it's so awesome though.

Haven't bought it. Listened to it twice. It's got a great atmosphere and some nice tunes, but it's long and a lot of it kinda sounds the same.

It is a good album, but as maestro says, a lot of it sounds the same. It doesn't seem like the masterpiece that critics are hailing it as (Pitchfork gave it a bloody 9.6!) but does had some great highlights, My Girls and Lion in a Coma in particular.

Guys Eyes is my favorite track. It's a good album, but I don't like it as much as Strawberry Jam.

wow. i was expecting different responses, i love it.

Fav tracks are... In The Flowers, My Girls, Also Frightened, Bluish, Guys Eyes and Brother Sport (this one was such a nice way to finish the album. it's so fun to chant along to)

also, i realise thats over half the album. heh

anyway. it's really good.

EDIT: i don't even know anymore they are all fantastic. all i can say is lion in a coma is probably my least favourite, but i still quite like it.

Summertime Clothes has such a nice vibe

EDIT: still brilliant.

I really liked Strawberry Jam. I'll try to get my hands on this new one.

The vinyl at Everyday Music won't be in for another few days. I guess I'll be listening to it when I can get my hands on it.

stuffs pretty cool
I feel the top of the roof come off, kill everybody there as I'm watching all the stars burn out, trying to pretend that I care.

But I didn't, no-one ever does, and I would, no-one ever will

Can't you see it's all flown out of my hands and our clothes are all too often ripped and our teeth are all too often gnashed and it lasts as long as it possibly can but I just don't accept this.

I just don't accept this at all.

Faces sweaty, arms and legs, what a glorious set of stairs we make.

We kill everyone with arrowheads, arrowheads, arrowheads. Thank god that's over.

I think it's far and away better than Strawberry Jam, which i think is AC's second worst album. Doesn't mean it's bad, it just sounds very transitional and is a raw document of trial and error to reaching this new sound.

It's true that the B-side seems to lack the momentum and color of the A-side, but it's just so jubulant and celebratory; great and possibly revolutionary music always share an air of optimism about the state of the art to come (like Aphex Twins "Xtal", Primal Scream's "Movin' On Up", The Beach Boys "Wouldn't It Be Nice", My Bloody Valentine's "Only Shallow", Joy Division's "Disorder", to name a few) and I think Animal Collective have got that down pat.

Fantastic album and I couldn't be more proud of them for finally translating their identity in such a beautiful way.

Best way to listen to an album for the first time?

step 1: buy it on vinyl and get a record player if you don't already have one.
step 2: wait until late at night when everybody in your household (besides yourself, of course) is asleep. Make sure they are cool with you playing the album at a moderate volume level first.
step 3: sit smack down between your speakers and listen intently for a little more than an hour. Drift in and out of sleep if necessary.

that said, the first time listening to this album was wonderful, especially when being half asleep creates some crazy wonderful "dreams" that go as best as they can with the music you're listening to.

I think this may very well be one of the best albums I've ever heard.

Heh, that raw edge may very well be why I preferred Strawberry Jam to Merriweather Post Pavilion. Although the latter is extremely well polished and colorful, I feel like Strawberry Jam was much more emotionally intense and the somewhat abrasive style combined with lyrical content focusing on the loss of innocence and the rough transition from childhood to adulthood really brought this out. Merriweather Post Pavilion having more to do with the acceptance of responsibility and maturity, it didn't really affect me as much. Maybe it's just the point of my life that I'm at which allows me to connect more to Strawberry Jam, but that's why I think it's the better album.

That being said, I can't wait to see them live in May!

I was just reminded of the album cover and the fact that, when I saw it in the flesh, it wasn't at all trippy. Is the CD version too small? Am I alone in my experience?

No, you're completely right. The physical album cover is far too small to evoke the same wavy effect. But it still looks pretty damn nice. The inside pictures are even better!
