It must be that all movie score composers are slacking off. It couldn't possibly be that you just aren't in the know.

Jet Li's Hero and Pi have some pretty decent soundtracks.
for video games Grind Session has the best soundtrack ever: Sonic Youth, KRS-One, GZA, Dr. Octagon, Cornelius, and a few other artists.

Hell, I like God of War 3 intro soundtrack. It makes me feel creepy and powerful in a unexplainable way.
