I think it's time that we get with the times. It is no longer the 14th century, and I'd like to see NUMA wearing a miniskirt. In today's modern age, usage of the words 'fuck' and 'shit' are commonplace, as well as 'fo' shizzle' and 'broseph'. I suggest that we encourage and embrace contemporary society, and update NUMA to reflect the changes in today's youth, as they are the primary users of the site. This mocked up image shows a possible implementation, and I am sure that many others would be possible.

Image

Arachnid, please consider this implementation. I think it would be greatly beneficial to establishing a stronger young userbase, as, well, we all know how they are attracted to swear words. Perhaps Ebony ads could help also. Think about it. :)

This is quite possibly the dumbest thread since the move to these forums. Are you trying to be funny? I hope you're not trying to be funny.

um what?
People write to me and say, "I’m giving up, you’re not talking to me." I just write them a simple message like, "Never give up," you know? And it changes their life

There are ways to get a point across without being a passive asshole, assuming there's a point here.

...it was meant to be a "Yo, what's with with the gratuitous amount of swearing and general unpleasantess", but it was like, fuck, 4:00AMish in the morning and I don't think I got it across as well as I could have. >_>

I think if you typed that same phrase with even less attention to spelling in IRC once, it would have served a greater purpose than this parade.

All you had to say is that you think there should be a bad word filter on NUMA.

which there is, but a majority of the time moderators pass the flagged comments off as 'not abusive', so the question is should we turn hardass and delete each and every one or continue to pass off the 'this map was fucking awesome, man' comments as OK. i certainly love appreciative comments on my maps, regardless of their vulgarity. i would gladly accept a gory blood/feces jesus x god christian fanfic whose morale was that my respective map was analogous to jesus' enjoyment of god's wondrous powers. oh, how wondrous.

in any case, what are your thoughts? zettai nein on any swearing, even relatively constructive, or what.

What maestro says. I kinda agree with squibbles to an extent, that maybe users should consider toning down language so the site's more appropriate, but I think deleting comments because of vulgarity is way too extreme.

From what I understand and have been told as a moderator, pretty much anything goes diction wise. What we're looking for is the tone. If someone posts on a map "YOUR MAP IS REALLY GOOD LIKE MY CUNT FACED GIRLFRIEND" (you should see the queue), it stays. If someone posts "Your maps fucking suck", with no attention to any sort of criticism, just blatant insults, those go.

What about neutral-toned cuss words? for instance I had a map with an inappropriate word in the title and it got delisted, though i wasn't being offensive to any particular person.
