Heyy
One thing that I notice on numa is that many new user/map-makers rush their maps out and their maps are usally.. ..well bad!! So my idea is to send a 'little help email' to new users before activating their accounts. This would be a big help and even enclose a link to this forum. What are your thoughts?

The better idea here is for you to stop formatting your posts.

I think you should wait until you're a well-respected member of this forum, this community before sticking your neck out into the guillotine that we call 'suggestions.'
I agree with you, but seeing as it won't happen, and has been suggested time and time again, I recommend you drop the idea.

That's what I like to call bullshit, actually.
edit: That is to say, that's not how it should be.

I think it's a good idea.
You should suggest it here though:

It's a completely unnecessary suggestion that would make signing up a chore.
No.

Okay great idea but i'd suggest it more like this:
when a user signs up, they are taken to a page (on the numa site) that has a welcome message, rules, and links to
- forums
- that n chat thingy that everyone goes on
- metanet site
- etc
I wouldn't reccomend an email system where they get sent mapping guides and such. One, because people would bitch (endlessly) about which guides to include and which to exlude. Two, because it would just hasten the process of new mappers mindlessly emulating existing maps/ideas/authors. A lot of people who start out bring something fresh to the table and thats great. If you don't like the quality of new maps, then don't play them, or post constructive comments.
But yeah I like the idea of a welcome message/links page.

Wait, I read this wrong. I retract what I said.
Not an email though, but a page that comes up with various links and information. Definitely a good idea.

There's no reason why this couldn't be made to happen rather easily, right? It's been a while, but I think there's a "thank you for registering, hope you enjoy etc" page -- why couldn't that have some links, maybe a brief FAQ?

Perhaps that first email that gets sent out to new users could have a link to the page.

If you really want to help them, some random stray dog posted links to some guides to map-making. Maybe the e-mail can have this link:

Or, even southpaw's FAQ -

Because remember NUMA doesn't have a new login function, are we going to send an email to everyone who makes an account of the metanet server?

People have to activate their accounts to use NUMA, so there'd be no issue there.
