The Evil Guide to Mapping

The above is a guide written by Evil_Sire explaining the uses of objects, and how to use them in a fashion.

The UTLIMATE guide to mapping!

A small guide written by atob for the middling player, not newcomer, but not quite a veteran. Could be very helpful.

Getting your maps noticed

An extensive guide of how to get your maps noticed on NUMA, full of helpful tips, a must-read for any mapper!

How to make a decent race map

Two of the most amazing race makers on NUMA entwine minds to produce a fully in-depth guide of what makes a good race map. Information on enemy placement, types of races, and other tips are included. Another must-read for somebody who is interested in races!

Making DDAs

One of the -if not the- greatest DDA makers out there puts together a very helpful guide for making DDAs, just think, written by Kwiftee!

Jeffkillian's guide

A tip guide for new map-makers, some very good hints in there, also includes a bad map list to show what not to do!

How to create a good N level

A helpful guide from instructables, apparently written by M&R! Includes some nice tips, links, and pictures.

This isn't easy to read and the images are gone.

I think it would probably be easier and better to just have a short post with links to the guides, maybe? :/

Aswell as the images, the link to example maps have disappeared. It would be nice if you went back and added all that in.

You could also spoilerify everything to make it a little more organised.

This really needs to be organised better. At the moment, there is no clear distinction between each of the guides, or even certain areas of each guide. I would suggest:

* Place each individual guide inside both a spoiler and a border, each of which have a different colour.
* Bold and underline every heading in every guide.
* Place horizontal dividing lines in between each paragraph of each guide.
* Get the images back, with links to the respective maps, if they were there.
* Make the title and author of each guide larger than the rest of the text.
* Have each guide fully inside a post, rather than split between two.

And perhaps most importantly, I trust you have permission from each of the guide authors to reproduce their property here?

Oh, no...

You didn't even ask the authors for permission before you created this thread, did you?

This is really not that good. Linking to them in a calm, orderly fashion would've been nice, perhaps with small, critical summary paragraphs. Or something ORIGINAL, SOMETHING OTHER THAN THIS MORASS OF UNREADABLE COPYPASTE.

Like suggested, at the least use spoilers, otherwise links would've been much more user friendly.
Cause as of now, it's impossible to navigate.
Condog summed up what I would've said, so I suggest you try doing it.

I was not involved in the asking of permission. Also, I believe you really should have waited for me and b3njamin to finish "The Race Manifesto" since it's not complete yet.

I think Condog's advice is head on.

JESUS FUCKING CHRIST EVIL_SIRE

Do you remember when you posted the FAQ: NUMA and I complained to you about asking permission to use other people's stuff? Apparently you are incapable of learning that, and therefore I can call you stupid by the definition of the word.

First of all, I am not angry at the fact that you have made a thread to compile all the manifesto's, tips, guides, etc, as it's a great idea. I'm angry at you because of the following (I think by breaking it down you'll understand better):
  • You did not ask permission to repost these.
  • Instead of giving LINKS to the originals you posted them one after another.
  • By copy/pasting you have eliminated the important images and links that were oh so useful.
If you take a look at the Level Pack thread, you'll see that apg had given links to each level pack, giving credit to all the authors involved. He did not make a brand new post for every level pack that came out. Everything is neat and organized in that thread.

By trying to "be helpful to the community" you're tarnishing your image even more than you already have. To me this is a form of plagiarism, regardless of the fact that you credited the original authors.

Aside from the fact that the layout of this thing is awful, linking to the guides would have gotten around the problem.

Adding your own guide in there seems a little presumptuous too.

You really need to stop creating topics for a while until you can learn to distinguish how without pissing off the entire community.

Also, this should be in n mapping, not nmaps.net.

Evil_Sire, you did not request the permission of the authors to post their work here. It still constitutes as copyright infringement.

Posting author links is perfectly fine, as far as I know. You're linking to the source, not reproducing it elsewhere.

And if you were doing this for your friends' sake, why post this on the forums? Are they members of the forum? It would have been more than convenient to have emailed them a couple of links.

First off, this wasn't for the community's benefit, it was for me and my mates from school, so that they could easily read all of them without having to find them first.

Second, it is not plagiarism.
Wikipedia wrote:Plagiarism is the use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the [/b]representation of them as one's own original work.[/b]

Within academia, plagiarism by students, professors, or researchers is considered academic dishonesty or academic fraud and offenders are subject to academic censure. In journalism, plagiarism is considered a breach of journalistic ethics, and reporters caught plagiarizing typically face disciplinary measures ranging from suspension to termination. Some individuals caught plagiarizing in academic or journalistic contexts claim that they plagiarized unintentionally, by failing to include quotations or give the appropriate citation. While plagiarism in scholarship and journalism has a centuries-old history, the development of the Internet, where articles appear as electronic text, has made the physical act of copying the work of others much easier, simply by copying and pasting text from one web page to another.

Plagiarism is not copyright infringement. While both terms may apply to a particular act, they are different transgressions. Copyright infringement is a violation of the rights of a copyright holder, when material protected by copyright is used without consent. On the other hand, plagiarism is concerned with the unearned increment to the plagiarizing author's reputation that is achieved through false claims of authorship.
So it was stupid of me to copy and paste it all, I admit, but i'm dumb like that and I don't care what you think of that.

I didn't ask permission, but i've given credit. It's like posting author's links on your profile, you didn't ask permission but you STILL DID IT -Riobe-. Therefore, I am right and you are wrong, and I have to go back to school now because lunch is nearly finished.

And in case you don't believe me, here is a link
Seriously. I make a statement that I wasn't involved in being asked for permission to post it here, and you direct everything at me(Which is the basic overreaction I should have expected). I'll jump into this a bit more then.

My profile really has nothing to do with this, and George & atob have already explained this along with many other members, so I'll repeat pretty much what most of us have said. Linking to the thread would have easily avoided this problem. It'll only take a few minutes to cut everything out, and a few more minutes to find the links. I'm sure it would take less time then copying and pasting each separate guide into one post, and you wouldn't get blamed for plagiarism or copyright infringement.

So seriously, if you really don't want to take this any farther, if you really want to prove that you don't want to piss off the community, if you really want to help out your friends much much more without getting yourself in deeper water, just edit the main post so that all there are are links to the individual guides. That's all you have to do.

Thread should be closed.

Not only is it in the wrong forum (map guides aren't to do with nmaps.net), but there's an existing guide compilation already in the n mapping forum.

No, yours should be closed because it took the entire community to tell you how to do it right, and condog has made a better one, and you're still not paying attention.

Stop creating threads, start getting involved in other community aspects and learn before you attempt to teach. Just relax into the community without trying so hard.
