If you paid attention to the news feed on NUMA, it might help.

I think that when you review a map, it should be put at the end of the list, so that the featuring is more organized and no maps will get left behind.

And that map has been there since what? september?

edited edit out...

Nothing to see here folks, I am not revealing it.

Thanks for that.

This is how the list works, mostly, there's some kind of bug which needs ironing out though. Arachnid is aware of it, it's just a matter of when he has the time.

I'll stay on top of it for now.

Whenever I reviewed a map, it was chucked into some completely random place on the list.

This may or may not be the case for others.

Actually, I think you might be right.

The entire thing needs an overhaul.

Completely agreed, it is somewhat fucked up.

Got to go now anyway, need a nap.

That's because Arachnid designed the Featured Map system so that when a Reviewer submits a map to be featured it is placed according to when they last had a featured map, how many featured maps are in the queue, who hasn't featured a map in a while, etc.

I spoke with him about the whole system before he implemented it, and I figured it was a good idea, to keep things fair. Unfortunately the bug came about, but I wasn't all too worried about it. I am worried about the Featured Map queue. It'll probably take some time before we have a weeks worth of maps in there again.

i think (not that anyone cares) that anyone should be able to submit reviews, and reviewers could shoot down bad ones....

i mean, cuz i'd like to submit one, but i don't want to be a full time reviewer. jsut a review every now and then...

tell me why this idea won't work...please?

Hey! I care.
The current system seems to be a lot more efficient than your suggestion, sorry. With your idea, it would create a lot of work for reviewers, and there's the chance that some bad ones could slip through. The current system is more efficient and easier to manage.
It's a fair point that there is no provision for people who want to submit occasional reviews, although it could be argued that if somebody really wanted to contribute to NUMA and be a reviewer, once a month isn't so much to ask.

so what is wrong with it now? all maps that get featured move immediatly to the feature and dont spend any time in the queue.

is this intentional or did you break it?

It appears that the featuring system is messed up again. Three maps have been featured today, one of which was up for less than an hour. I emailed the admins at NUMA about this some time ago. So, fellow NUMA goers - don't fret, I'm sure it will be fixed soon. For those reviewers who think they want to feature something today, please don't until it gets fixed.

You know, I think this might actually be kind of beneficial. I mean, sure, other maps will be featured longer than others, but in this way it updates more frequently. Spelling and such is a much more important thing to keep track of now, but it also means that the Featured Maps section will get more traffic from people checking it more often to stay updated. And it still serves the purpose of featuring, while bringing back the frequent updates of Bitesized. To me it seems like a perfect compromise to two systems that both serve their own purpose and also had their own uniqueness about them.

So I guess I'm saying that I like not having the queue. Means you don't have to wait so long for a new feature, and reviewers might be more inclined to write reviews for very recent and very well built maps, without having to wait for a few days before it's seen. Plus, it's not like we still can't feature old maps, it just means that new maps also have a great chance to be featured quickly as well.

so if i was a reviewer, i'd only have to submit a review like, once a month?

If so i'm in

my previous self-restraint was because i saw so many new reviewers jumping up so...

Yeah but the main problem has already become evident: I wrote a review for one of shortshift maps and in less than an hour it was replaced by another map. Granted it does go into the featured maps list forever, but it's not really fair that his map only receives the brief time on the front page in the limelight, while other maps could receive days at a time if NUMA is slow or the reviewers are busy. That's just not right.

Hmmm... good point.
I guess it's important we get the queue back up as soon as possible then...

Queue = Bad.

It doesn't take much effort to click onto the featured maps page and browse through, as long as their is a news post about it we can still have this biteseized feature. And more chance for other people to get reviews, not like a perfect map, just a map that a reviewer really enjoyed.

Personally, I like the queue system more. It allows each map to get the same time, which means the same potential for exposure, which is only fair. Regardless of whether the featured maps list is there or not, it is not right that some maps get more exposure time than another.

We need the queue. Epigone has it right.

The queue isn't bad. Although it doesn't take much effort to browse through the featured maps page, it is already evident that maps that have been prematurely shoved off have received less attention than others.
