"Plagiarism"?

Nmaps.net
The original little test map I made, sort of a first attempt at making a little bit of flow. Ratings disabled.

Nmaps.net
A map that uses the same loop pattern, but made by some other guy. Pointed out by me. Says he was inspired by my map. No biggie.

Nmaps.net
ANOTHER map by some other author using the same loops! I point this out like the jerk I am (:P) and then post in this thread for your opinion.

So by the examples you can tell, would you say this is downright copying or still okay? What does it matter anyway? TELL ME NAO

Certainly not plagiarism in any way whatsoever. To begin with, I don't particularly see where he's stolen your loop pattern, considering it's a common loop pattern to begin with. Second, even if he did use the same design as you, there's nothing that says he shouldn't as long as he creates his own map. It's a matter of judgment, and he clearly does not have any malicious intent here.

With patterns like this you really can't say it's plagiarism. When a nice-looking tile-pattern is developed, people may well attempt to emulate it to an extent.

All right, thanks for your opinion on the thing. Looking back, posting this thread was kind of a dumb idea and I should get over that familiar loop. Cheers

It's no big deal. You should try using the IRC if you want to get a quick answer to something, or to just hang out with the community.

You only hold intellectual property rights over the maps you create which are not direct copies of maps that have been previously submitted. Your ideas and techniques can be built upon by any other author who feels like doing so. You only have claim to a unique map.
