A query:
I don't know if you all care, but I would like the Featured system to be put on halt from Christmas to January 5th. If you guys don't like this just let me know, but I'd rather you spend your holidays with your family or friends than worrying about NUMA.
Of course we'll reschedule the few people who signed up for after Christmas if you guys don't mind. I'd just like to take a break like we did last year.

Everyone is allowed to vote, but Reviewers, please state your vote in a post since I'm considering your vote above everyone else.

If you're confused, a "Yes" vote means we're taking a break. A "No" vote means we continue with our normal broadcast.

huh. I honestly thought more people would be voting with me.

Well, I went no. I think that it isn't that much time, and if people don't think they are up to the task, then they could simply not sign-up for it.

That and, you know, there will be the usual "WE WANT NEW MAPS" riot.

Well... Although I can see where OA is coming from, I think that just because some people will be on holidays doesn't mean we should stop featuring maps. Some people will inevitably get bored during the holidays and they'll want to see what good stuff there is to play. I don't see any convincing reason to stop featuring maps during the silly season.

That's just my opinion though.

origami this is a bad idea.
For the person who has the LAST featured map, he will get all the attention in NUMA! Then when Jan. 5th comes, no one will care who has a featured map, because they'll think it'd be like last time. But that's my opinion.

I voted yes. Simply because I'm not going to be on numa over that period.

I vote no, and even though I'm not a reviewer, I think that days upon days of the same featured map will turn people away. Like others said before, you don't have to sign up on those dates if your a reviewer and wish to halt, I don't have any problem with that. But halting features would be like halting the whole flow of things, an I feel that it won't have a positive effect on Numa.

I vote no as well. The majority of people spend more time on metanet (including NUMA) when they dont have school. School is usually not in session during these times, and I think we should meet the higher traffic with full quality reviews.

I.e, southpaw wants to make a truly epic last feature and doesn't want anyone to interfere.
I.e, southpaw doesn't want to have to moderate during the Christams season, becuase he wants to be busy with family.

In which case I'm all for it.

I agree with no features during the holidays, but that's why I didn't sign up for any then. I'm sure if someone signed up during the period.. they were aware of the conflicts with their personal schedule.

I feel obligated to vote yes since southpaw's had to put up with a lot of my shit lately, and he obviously wants a break.

(But, dude, what happened to your Dec. 25th feature slot?) Read the fucking post, flagger.

I could also fill in for those who don't want to review over the holidays. I'll be in between semesters, so I won't have much to do. Let me know what spots are needed.

I don't see any reason to do this. People should be allowed to feature maps over the break if they'd like to. It's not like NUMA is an office building or something.

I voted no, mostly for the same reasons that Palemoon and skyline said. If some reviewers want to take a break, there are more than enough other reviewers to cover. I might take a day or two later this month, but I will be quite busy with revision and stuff, so maybe just one.

Echoing Skyline/PALEMOON: It's not like I'm going anywhere for Christmas. I write my reviews well beforehand. It's no hassle at all to submit a one/some during the yuletide cheer. I know some people can't, but I don't see why that should change anything for those who can. Frankly, I'm confused as to why such a measure is being considered, even more so as to why it's being supported. I don't think the maps would be shortchanged or anything.

(I voted no, by the way)

To you last four posters: it's not that I can't submit during the hols; I spend more time with N when I'm not beset by attempted schooling. I just read this as: southpaw doesn't want to have to worry about all the shit that inevitably pops up with each new feature... over Christmas. And since he's basically the only active admin, let's listen to him.

Also, I think it would be a good idea to take a break for a while, especially if that Majora's Mask map stays up the whole time. :D

My vote is no. I personally don't have much to do, except for some studying, and some finalizing college apps.

Other than that, I'll just be playing TF2.

My feature is on the 24th, so it's technically before the period you suggested.

What sort of worrisome shit are you talking about? The moderation queue is always filled with flagged comments, regardless of whether or not they're on featured maps. And besides, there is a reason why we have so many moderators. . . I really don't think you know what you are talking about at all.

I feel like people just support it because they have some delirious fantasy of NUMA being a working office building and that they have to adhere to the traditions of such a place.

Hey, guys, let's all take a break from reviewing! It's a lot of tough work, and we need not be concerned with such stressful issues over our wonderful holidays! It's not like you signed up for when you feature maps or anything!

I vote yes. kkstrong, you are wrong. featured maps should not be Numa's main attraction. they are merely advertisements of maps that reviews enjoy playing. the "random" button is only a click away.

I personally think it is up to the reviews whether they want to make a review or not. Pressure should be eased up on the reviewers to submit a review, i.e. they wont be dropped for not submitting over this period, but the option should still be there. There seems to be reviewers in this thread who are more than happy to review, and those who would rather not

If the reviews are dropped, however, I think the featured map on the homepage should be replaced with either a random high rated map or removed completely. Having the same map for a more than a week could get annoying.

Hahaha, well if OA is the only active admin and he requires a break, then it seems reasonable to give him one, it must be hard being the only admin.

HOWEVER

this seems more of a case that Numa needs to weed out its admins and stuff. it doesnt sound like a case of halting the flow of features through all of the holidays, which as many people pointed out is when people can get on more (including myself). Especially since enough reviewers seemed to have replied no as well to fill in the gaps.'

overall, if and of us want, we should have our well deserved break! There are plenty of people that are able to review and watch the place in general.

I agree for the break (although I'm not a reviewer). The reviewers deserve a break, even at the slight consequence of us being a tad bored for a while. (Like when restaraunts take thanksgiving off D:<)
