How long do you think that any one map should be the featured map?

Personally I think anywhere from 2-3 days is quite nice.

Also this serves as a suggestion thread. The idea is very much like the floating suggestion made by blue_tetris with ratings and the newest page.

However now, a map stays the featured map for any given length of time based on the the number of individual user comments it recieves. What do you think?

It's 24 hours and it's going to stay 24 hours, any longer is completely unnecessary and any less doesn't cover all time zones. Floating based on comments would be imbalanced.

The only reason maps appear for longer atm is a glitch in the system.

24 hours seems fine to me. Besides, it's not like if you missed 6 days of updates on NUMA can you not check to see which maps were featured previously. They are always in the Featured Maps section once they've been featured, even if you remove them from the listings.

I'm completely fine with the system as it is currently. I definitely think that more than 24 hours would be annoying. And any less could be satisfactory but 24 hours makes the most sense right now.

Twenty four hours is how it is, and how it should remain. It's the perfect amount of spotlight, and like southie said, it's not like they're not all archived in a very easy to find location if you miss one.

Yea, it seems that having a map up for more than 24 hours just gets annoying. Some people also complain that their features aren't getting through. It needs to stay at 24 hours and this glitch needs to be fixed at some point.

On the contrary. I don't think I've ever /really/ complained about my feature not getting through. It's the only one of its kind, and if I was complaining, I wasn't /really/ complaining.

We really don't need to fix anything that isn't broken. The 24 hour rotation has worked really well, giving each map enough time in the spotlight. Any more isn't necessary, any less won't cover all the time zones.

I'm sorry, I was under the assumption that the featured maps length had been changed to 4 days as a result of the atfb map that stayed up, and atob's comment on the map.

I believe 2 days is ideal.

3 days just pisses me off.

A featured map only needs 24 hours. Any longer and it gets stale, any shorter ad some times zones aren't sufficiently covered. An if you do miss it in that 24 hour period, you can just check the Featured Map list.

24 hours is a very suitable time for most N users from all time zones and any longer would be completely rubbish as it would become boring looking at the same featured map for 2 days or even more. Also more maps get the chance to become featured in the 24 hour shift and any less would imply that getting a feature is easy.

If we ever needed to up the frequency, we could use the idea of having two featured maps for 24 hours.

You're not paying attention to the fundamental flaw in this suggestion: having a map appear once every 12 hours is imbalanced in that one of the two will receive less attention due to time zones.

I think he means having two maps simultaneously featured for the full 24 hours.

Wouldn't that require a hairy revision of the already flawed code?

Ahh, right. It's still as flawed: certain authors/maps would command more respect than the paired. Just as imbalanced.

Most threads end up this way. All round arguments, it's not always amusing watching people fight over things. Though I still think that it's great as it is. One every 24 hours.

As I have stated previously, it is not too long and not too short. Also users from all time zones will be able to see the map. What could possibly go wrong with that? It a perfect routine. Perfect.
