This is what it is:

I have created a new account, Anonymous mapper. There, anyone can post a map anonimously easily(see how it works).

This is how this works:

You PM me a map data, map description and map tags. As soon as I see the message (in 90% of cases it will be the same day) I submit a map. You also tell me when do you want me to reveal the identity of the mapmaker. You can do that in the PM where you post me a map data, or you can wait the day when you want to be revealed. If you don't note me to reveal the identity by 14 days, It will be revealed without you noting me.

These are the benefits for an old&famous mapmaker:

You will get more realistic ratings and comments without losing any attention. You will see what does the community really thinks about your maps, since there are a lot of cases where are not the maps that are rated.

These are the benefits for a relatively/completely new mapmaker:

More attention, since the NUMA users have in mind that it can be their favorite author. With that, there are also a lot bigger possibilites to get recognized as a good author.

These are the maps that were submitted anonimously so far:
Contribution maps / Who made them / Submission date

Fire of my lions / Guitar_Hero_Matt / 1. Feb '09
Distributive Property of Five / BionicCryonic / 2. Feb '09
fly / ... (will not get revealed) / 2. Feb '09
out of the frying pan! / ... / 3. Feb '09
this nightlife strikes me as low-res / OneSevenNine / 4. Feb '09
Flying Fir / greenblack / 4. Feb. '09
and dropped me / gloomp / 5. Feb. '09
Hydroxenated Bile / Blackson / 6. Feb. '09
nature of n / natures peril / 7. Feb. '09
Hill of Golgotha / ... / 8. Feb. '09
golden gates galore / gr_8 / 9. Feb. '09
MagicMan / ... / 15. Mar. '09
The Intentional Accident / ... / 28. Mar. '09

I'd like you to RCE unrated maps click HERE to see them
This a score table for guess-the-author game participants:

Code: Select all

Erik-Player 3
spudzalot 3
BE_nSPIRED 1
sTalkR 1
maxson924 1
rozer 1
Blackson 1
GTM 1
Furry Ant 1
Notes:

-the next ten messages might sound confusing a bit, since the thread was different a lot and I was just watching if someone likes it
-in case that you want to know the rating of the map before it gets public rating, just note me and I will inform you
-I will put this at the bottom of every map's description:

-------------------------------------------------

This map is a part of the Anonymous Mapper Project. If you want to post a map anonymously too, please visit this topic.

There's a reason for that, you know. Noted authors are generally rated better because they tend to produce better quality maps. The same apply for 'noob' authors.

That is right, but it also happens often that the author is rated instead of the map.

Not something that can be fixed, unfortunately. I don't think it's the pandemic people suggest anyway, and ratings are superficial.

Notable mapmakers receive more attention, this I'll agree with. And in turn, more comments and feedback. But this is the same as any medium: if you have a good product, chances are you'll receive the attention you deserve. They've earned their positions.

Saying this, the account could be fun.

i have a similar idea, but maybe i should make a new thread for it.

can we resub maps made by authors that are long-gone as long as we give them absolute credit? or can a mod somehow do that for them?

that kindof ties in with featuring a little bit, but if you're not a reviewer for whatever reason, you might want to give praise to a map made long, long ago.

and so it goes, and so it goes, and so will you soon i suppose.

Great idea, but I don't think the PMing thing would work too well. I can't think of a way other than it that would prevent spammers who use that account to get off scot-free, though... I suppose if it could get implemented directly into NUMA (a "Submit this map anonymously" box to tick at the submit a map screen) it might work.

On the topic of good authors always getting good rates; I can hardly imagine that their name doesn't affect their ratings at all, but at least we all know they do make substantially better maps than the noobs that get rated lower. As long as that holds true, I don't think it much of a pressing issue unless the prolific authors deliberately go all heavy avant-garde on us (a spamfest noob map made by a legacy team member? How artistic! 5aved!) or abuse their fame in other ways. Besides, ratings shouldn't seem that important.

That button would be the same thing if I write the password here. There would be lot of those who would claim a good map as their own. This way we would prevent that things from happening.

This account would help to everyone - good authors would get more realistic ratings and comments, and newbies would get some more attention.

To avoid people taking credit for other people's work, get each author to PM his map to you before he submits it on the account. That way, you have evidence of who submitted what.

That wouldn't make anything easier. If someone wants to post a map anonymously he sends me a PM that contains map's name, description, tags and map data. If he does what you suggest he anyway has to fill those fields and beside that he has to PM me. It would just make it all harder than it is. I will send it immediately as I get the map. Beside that, if I publish the password, someone will be able to post a map without my knowledge. I can't stop that. I'll stick to the old way, it's easy to change it if something bad occurs.

another numa problem is that authors who are not superwellknown are ignored, and maps have a lack of people seeing them. once a map is off the hot maps list, the only way for someone to see it is faves, random search, or typing a random number into the address bar.
oh, and features, but you still have to go throught the same process.
youre account probably wont get as much attention because its a random person and name, and people will just skip over it.

I think pm'ing would work fine. but this would be great as a "guess-the-author" account as well.

Sure you can try guessing the author, it might be cool. But do it here, I don't want to create a new topic on Contests & Highscores.

The first map has just been submitted. It's called Fire of my lions. Here it is: http://nmaps.net/156015
You can also start playing that guess-the-author game.

blackbelmoral wrote:youre account probably wont get as much attention because its a random person and name, and people will just skip over it.
Yeah, but those random maps don't have a thread about them. Who sees this thread will probably check out the map too.

Its GHM. Brilliant atob like design with his own asthetic twist.

By the way very nice idea, I will participate in this as much as I can (guessing that is). There should be some sort of score system that gives you a prize after getting a certain number of maps right.

Maybe I will make the scoring system, but the entire project is in it's pilot phase. First I have to see how much submissions we will have, both on the project itself and the author guessing.

EDIT: What the hell, I'll do that scoring thing. So for this round, GTM said that he's for Skyline, while BE_nSPIRED and spudzalot are betting for GTM.

This won't work if the mapper is a newbie because it doesn't have recognizable style so no one will guess it, but we'll see what will happen.

well, then people will have to be very familiar with artists to win. and I think the profile page should list contributing authors.

Fire of my lions - 1. Feb. '09 - ?
That question mark will be replaced with the author name as soon as it gets revealed.
blackbelmoral wrote:what about the first author?
Well, he didn't note me yet to reveal his identity, if he don't do that by the 14th of Feb. I'll ask him about the issue.

And we have a new map submitted! It's called Distributive Property of Five and you can find it here. You can guess the author for any map that hasn't author's identity revealed.

We have a new map. It's called fly and you can find it here. The author told me not to reveal his identity, so it's better to stay focused on guessing who made Distributive Property of Five.

I have made the scoring table and counted in the points. For the last map GTM said it's ganteka.

Why don't you make AnanymousMapper's profile say who contributed; in this format....
AnanymousMapper's profile wrote: Contribution maps / Who made them

fly / ...
And keep updating it to the identity of a person and a new map.

Edit: Here's what to copy.

There, I've fixed that, I only added submission date.

P.S. Please don't guess the author on NUMA, guess it here.
