My maps have been rated fine? It's just circumstance and coincidence I assure you.

GTM, no offence, but that's because you advertise your maps on every map you see.

true.. GTM..
uhh.. how about when you check the last three hot maps pages.. there will be two or maybe three rated maps..
explain that..

edit: oh and I just checked the last 10 pages..

18 out of 100 maps were rated..

18% over the past 22-30 hours.. thats not normal..

The harsh reality of it is if you make maps below a certain standard they're not going to receive attention.

We're not here to hold every single authors hand and make their maps better for them. The same resources are available for everyone.

If you want to help really then get actively involved in making these new authors more aware of these resources. Creating threads like these moaning about the situation isn't doing any good at all.

I'm not moaning...

okay maybe a bit..
but anyway.. I created this thread to try to find the problem and creat a solution..
and also.. by helping noobs make better maps it doesn't only help them but it could improve the standard and maybe also give us better maps to play and enjoy.
but maybe its not the noobs.. maybe it something else..

The problem is that only a very small percentage of the users who frequent NUMA will ever be able to produce decent maps. With any site that deals with any kind of creative design, a very large percentage of the submissions are not even going to worth looking at.

looking at the map wont kill you.. and certainly some maps do suck.. very true but then again.. ratings aren't only supposed to be used to show how good a map is but also how bad one is.. many people have forgotten that..
nreality is wonderful.. type in the map number.. play it.. if it sucks leave a comment why and rate it according to your standards... thats not that hard..
I always love it when you rate my maps because it always makes me realize what i did wrong.. nd I respect that..
I'm not too good.. but I can't get anybetter without help.. even the pros had to start somewhere..
see my piont?

NicNac - NUMA hasnt changed while youve been gone ,,, the atleast decent maps will get attention and or some advice... ratings are not that important. Why do you care anyways ... I mean its not that important some random noob who will leave in later life doesnt get ratings ... most of the time its because all there maps are made by only etiles and spammed objects

thtas not what I mean... even good authors don't get attention..
I had to make atleast 25 maps before people started noticing me..
okay.. fuck the noobs and concentrate on the maps that look decent...
don't look a the author and just play it.. look at the author and then.. you'll see what I mean.. try it..

I know what you're talking about, NN.

It's true, a lot of good maps go by the wayside on the hot maps page. But it's been happening pretty much as long as NUMA's been around. It may be a bit worse around this time of year because a lot of people are out for finals or something, but basically that's just the way it is. The sucky thing is that if you go Mahatma Gandhi on it ("You must be the change you want to see in the world"), it'll be an unsatisfyingly one-sided relationship.

If you would really like to do something about it, maybe you could try making a group where similar-minded people could gather and prowl the hot maps page. I would definitely consider joining such a group...

NUMA has always been like this. Some maps get rated, some don't. The ones you love won't, and the ones you think suck will be the ones rated. That's just how it is, learn to love it. You shouldn't be mapping to go for ratings anyway, don't a lot of people disable them? That could be making a bias in the numbers.

Either way, if not having your map rated makes you lose the will to play the game, then stop, otherwise, no worries. You're not going to get others to care by waving a white flag.

I rarely rate maps these days. With no Top Rated list, rating is pointless.

Rating a map highly pushes it to the top of the "Hot Maps" page, thus pushing new maps down the page when they should be first in line.
Rating a map lowly pushes it to the bottom, and sometimes off of the "Hot Maps" page, thus making it quite possible for other users to miss the map entirely.

All rating really gives a user is a box on their profile showing their average rating, and a little bit about how many ratings they've recieved.

i recommend, quite honestly, making better maps.

its not to say your maps are bad, but mine used to be terrible 24/7 and now i make decent maps and i get more comments.

try innovating more i guess.

Make better maps maybe. Stop whining maybe. There is no solution maybe.
