I'm starting to like the old NUMA better...

Talk about the Nmaps.net website.

No, its not because of any of the new features, like featuring/hot maps whatever, and its not because top-rated is gone. Oldma was just such a nice place, it felt so comfortable and cozy. The new one feels so cold and kinda harsh. I don't know if its because of the new members or whatever though.

discuss?

We need a N00bma for some of these people, srsly.

Although, I agree. The theme is really dark compared to the previous one, and dark themes always seem hostile to me. That's probably the main problem.

I don't understand how a website that's very similar to the old one can be considered hostile.
It's like you're saying Newma is an evil clone, compared with Numa, the protagonist of the story.

'Numa was walking home one fine afternoon after an evening of community service, when she stopped by her favorite flowershop to pick up some tulips to give to the homeless people down the street. The flowershop was in an alley, and she didn't think it was strange that another girl that looked similar to her was in the alley. However, the other girl, Newma, wasn't nice, and was actually cold and harsh, and beat up Numa, and took her lunch money before running off...'

I like Newma better.

the new layout does a lot more for popularity of the authors themselves, and i think the 'hot maps' concept is much, much better than the terrible list oldma had.

much more friendly to new, eager users. i like it

A few bugs and glitches can still be fixed, but this is definitely a step up from the old NUMA. It's much more accessible and user friendly. It also looks a heck of a lot better.

I have the same feeling with the new forums. The old forums had the white and light blue in the backgrounds but here all the styles are cold colours. Dark and eery. I have never seen the old forums but I know what you mean.

How do you know what he means when you've 'never seen the old forums'?

All these changes have only made these two places better. They're improvements. Don't dawdle in the past, take a step into the future.

I'm pretty sure that "newma" improved upon "oldma" in every single way possible. Don't be a scrooge and resist the changes. Embrace them and enjoy what you like about NUMA. Keep on having fun making maps and playing the great ones that are uploaded every day.

People on NUMA these days are under the impression that being critical is the same thing as being smart.

So, in order to make themselves look smart, they criticize. Even when it's not founded. Even when it's not necessary.

Do your part to help out by giving normal advice, not throwing our stupid insults, and discouraging those who do. Keep in mind the people who do this nonsense and ignore their comments in the future. Eventually, if all of you ignore their stupidity, they'll either shape up or be excommunicated.

Are you talking about how the colour scheme feels a a wee bit cold? Like the dray grey versus the light grey we once had that was more generic, making it easier to adapt to.
Cause I can see where that is coming from.

I agree with palemoon, and the weighting on hot maps is much much less compared to the old top rated, so people don't really talk about staying on hot maps as much as they used to talk about getting on top rated.. I think that's actually made the atmosphere nicer :p

Were you ever around when we had the old NUMA?

I know that we're most likely never going to have it back, but I'm with notkitt on this one. Although this one is much more attractive, the previous NUMA had an aura of awesome-classic surrounding it.

I don't know how long you were around on the "old numa" but, I definitely don't think the atmosphere is worse on newma. People seem to be actually more friendly and receptive to maps now than before. There used to be so much sniping and multi-accouting, people faking deaths, people with ego's the size of Texas... etc. I don't see so much of that now.

I will agree with that /except/ for the skin of the new forums, dark skins almost never work, and the default one here plane sucks (the Hermes one is about the best looking I have seen for a dark themed skin though, which is why I'm using it)

Were you ever around when we had the old old NUMA? The dark blue NUMA? That was depressing on 12 different levels, and possibly more.

I remember when Arachnid switched to the lighter gray and there were about 50 threads complaining about or praising it in NUMA Discussion on the old forums. Sometimes people forget to take their "nostalgia goggles" off and embrace a new look for its appeal rather than an old look for its familiarity.

If I recall, there was a NUMA version before the old old NUMA, but I wasn't around for that.

Haha, I remember old old NUMA. T'was a great day when things became light grey, if you ask me. An even better day when NEWMA was unveiled, despite its semi-brokenness.
