Like the amount of maps with the average rating of 4, is unbelievably high, with such a wide range of quality between them.
But if you put some thought into your comment, and some critique, then that would be what the definition of the rating is.

gameplay is really all i base my disision on, like if i have fun its a 4 if its spammed its a 1-2 but if im like WOW this is really fun they must have spent alot of time on this then i will prob ive it a 5 (witch odly enuf happens to me alot when i play your maps)

As for the definition of a rating, a rating is a number on a scale where one side is leaning toward lesser quality and the other toward higher quality. With NUMA, the lesser value is 0, and the higher value is 5. Numbers closer to 0 show little quality, while numbers close to 5 show good quality.

who cares what it should mean. basically, it hints at weather you're a good mapper or not.
@pikman: pff, 5 goes to map of the day really. sometimes there can be two 5s in a day, sometimes theres never more than a 3 around.

A rating doesnt decide how good a mapper is just how good the map is, so really why do we care about them. Its only a number.
I only really rate when i have to, like the map rating group or the map rating/commenting threads. Exept when i see a great map that i very much enjoy or i see a very boring uselsess map i tend to rate them

0: The ninja and door ar missing and there is no gameplay
1: Completable but wasn't fun or aesthetically pleasing
2: Completeable and fun but missing the cleverness and doesn't look good
3: An average map which was fairly fun to play
4: A map where you can see the author ha put in effort and has come out whith a fun pleasing result
5: A brilliant map whith almost no room for errors
