Jackass77 wrote:Nice Tiles.... haha GTM lol nice way to phrase that "random noob" lol ,,, i would of said dont advertise on others maps but since of the random noob prob ill let you off
Evil_Sire wrote:"I'll let you off"No, you won't, because you have no right to penalize him for it. There is no rule against advertising, and it isn't your map.

So shut up
Guitar_Hero_Matt wrote:Replying to E_SHe's got a point, besides that I dont see you advertising... oh wait, yeah I do.

I dont normally want to do, as it just sounds pleady, but I guess advertising is okay in certain circumstances.

But spam isnt, so lets stop spamming his map :P
[

My reply -toned down abit-:

"Well, you see adverts on TV, and are they pleady? No, they are trying to get you to buy something, and it's the same on here. Sure, they are annoying, but some of the time it's people like Bluenin on the second page with Kaylab goin "OMG YOU ARE INWFSETTHY><FSEAIN!!!!", rating a 0 and your map getting no attention.

Advertising is neccassery in certain circumstances, and this jackass thinks he can penalize people for it. Well he can't, it's up to mods to penalize.

Sometimes advertising can mean the difference between a featured map and a un-featured (hehe) map, it can mean the difference between a 3 or a 5, and most of the time someone enjoying the map.

If the advertiser is a person who is known to have good maps, who cares? It's a one-off advertisement. This Jackass dumbass needs to accept that people advertise, whether he likes it or not."

What do you think? do you care about people advertising?

I removed two words.

As I said on the map, grow up.

And learn the definition of "loads"

No advertising. It is spammy, annoying and if you want extra attention for a map, you can use the map rating and comment threads. There is no need to clog up another person's map just to get attention for yourself. You should only post maps in another persons map page if it is relevant to that map.

Which it sometimes is.

I don't mind people advertising once or twice.

Facts:
There's no formal rule about advertising but it's looked down upon, for good reason, and repeat offenders will be penalised.
Jackass77 was being perfectly friendly.

We aren't running a TV show here. No one's getting paid for advertising or anything, you can't even begin to equate the two.

Advertising on NUMA can never be considered "okay", because then it'll start being done freely. You'll have "nice, but play this map too" everywhere - no matter what way you try to spin that, it's stupid.

There are always ways to get your map looked at. There are two threads here for that very purpose, or you could post it 6 times on the IRC and get yourself kickbanned. There's no need to fill up someone else's map with it.

The shortest answer is: advertising is spamming.

On TV, advertisements are endorsed by the station who wants to put them on. McDonalds doesn't hijack the feed from Nickelodeon and run advertisements on it. If you want NUMA to be more like TV advertisements, you should have to pay the owner of those maps to endorse your advertisement.

To me, nothing entered into a text box is an "advertisement". It's either spam or not spam. It's spam if it serves no purpose to the implicit conversation at hand.

If you go onto someone else's map and put up an advertisement for your own map or for Cialis or for your hot Asian webcams site, it's spam.

Since when are advertisements exempt from the "spam" rule? Anyone who owns an e-mail account knows that most advertisements are spam.

jackass is in the right here. Evil_Sire is overreacting, as per usual, because someone didn't like his spam.

Well advertising on a map with your maps is definitely spam, since there are The Map Rating/Commenting threads for this.
I mean if there wasn't a forum where the purpose is to advertise your map, then I supposed advertising your map on someone else's map isn't that bad. Especially in gloomp's case, where he wants people to post their map link on his maps for the maps that might be feature-able. That's advertising if I'm not mistaken, as it is clearly showing that you think that map is good, and is even worthy of a feature.

Advertising should be a reason to disable people, when they do it often.
Or perhaps it's a reason allready.

Surely if we look at kkstrong's response, we can interpret that advertising is only bad if the majority of people affected by the advertisement is bad?

You shouldn't advertise on people's maps because it's fully annoying. If you have nothing to say but "LOOK AT ME" then you probably aren't the kind of person we want on numa. It's a game of give and take.

Side note: Who gave Evil_Sire the right to parade his opinion as fact?

Actually, I always have something else to say, otherwise I wouldnt comment on someone elses maps at all. So stop trying to judge me based off the fact that I dont mind other people adevrtising on my maps.

I fail to see why I cannot judge whoever I like, thanks. Also, way to go mixing up the facts. You say that you always have something good to say, yet I shouldn't judge you for your disregard for people advertising on your maps. The difference is, if you advertise on my map, I will be fully annoyed. I couldn't care less what gets posted on your maps, so there is no fear of me judging you based on that.

Grrrrrr.

You just cannot revive a thread after a month with the argument "I think we should stop debating this issue". Like, you have to reach this whole new level of stupidity just to think about it.

Don't do that.
