An ad is an ad, be it for a NUMA map or anything else. Just because it's advertised does not make the original map any better.

Pretty much. Also, if you're desperate enough for attention to pay for advertising, that says more about you than about your maps, don'tcha think? I mean, the Map Rating and Commenting Threads have always been free of charge. :/

This is clever and i approve. Plus he's paying for it so it's hardly underhanded. (plus it's the internet and he can do whatever he wants) These ads help run NUMA, right? i'd much rather see author ads than random things for crappy webcomics.

The thing it it's currently free of charge for him, though. The current bid's at $0, so I'm bargaining that anyone can swipe up that banner, for nothing.

But you'd think he'd choose a better banner like one that said in bolded letters "FOR REAL FEATURED MAP CLICK HERE"

I don't really care much, I mean I never even look at the advertisements anyways. I have no objection to him or anyone doing something like that. Techno described it nicely:
Techno wrote:An ad is an ad, be it for a NUMA map or anything else. Just because it's advertised does not make the original map any better.
.

I would like to point out though that the ad is far more effective than the rating thread, as I believe (1) the thread is limited because only one person is required to play the map, everyone else overlooks it and (2) the forums are not nearly accessed as much as Numa is, meaning theres much more internet traffic on numa... more people to see it... a necessity for good ads.

Yup, I remember. It was actually for his awesome Action-Packed Competition, or whatever it was called back then. I became a judge because of that. :D

I didn't notice on account of having advertisements disabled (Being the Admin has its perks :P ) but it's not like he's in the wrong. If he's not paying anything because he's not being bid against then that's fine but if he is paying something, it's his advertisement and it helps keep the cost of NUMA covered. It's a win-win situation for the author who is willing to advertise their maps on the site. If I were so bold, I'd have propaganda up the ass on NUMA. Thank god I don't have access to the FTP. Y'all would have seen sickles and hammers and a crowd of PALEMOON-drawn figures saluting an origami-alligator dictator about 8 months ago.

I saw an ad for mistalker06 as well. I think it's a good idea putting these adds on. Maybe someone can advertise new contests (like usaswim), or maybe an ad for a new post on the nmaps.com home page or etc..

And i thought ads sucked.
