What is the Optimum Map Length?

As the title suggests, in your opinion, what is the optimum map length in frames?

The length is how long you would like to spend to finish the map. Be it all-golding or speed-running or just taking your time and/or playing around a bit.
How long would you like the map to be?

Somewhere between 1600 and 2000 frames. Seems ideal for all long maps and agding maps. I would like under 800 for speedrunning though.

From 800-1600. That's plenty of time.
2000+ if you're playing with it, but I'd prefer not to spend too long, and 1600 frames is a lot of time to play with anyways.

This is another of those arbitrary statistics that is dependent on other variables such as map difficulty, style, flow, linear/multi path gameplay, etc. The optimum map length really doesn't matter that much if the map is really enjoyable, but matters a whole lot if it isn't. I would be happy to play a map for 10,000+ frames if it was fun. NV.

I like generally short maps. They're much more suited to my novice needs

I never really liked long maps. 1200-1600 frames for me. Not too short, but long enough for me to have a bit of fun without getting bored.

There is no optimum. Maps need top vary in length to add dynamic to the experience.

The title should read: what's your favourite map length. As it is it's just silly.

Even then. I couldn't answer that. Even if I did keep track of the frame count of my favourite maps, the results would completely depend on how I had played them. And I don't judge which maps are my favourites by how long they take to play.

i agree; the length really rightfully depends on the atmosphere. however, as a general rule (in my opinion), the longer a map is without getting boring, the better. i have seen some very good maps that have dragged on for a very long time. i'm thinking specifically of Yahoozy's technique of using gold spammage to draw out the gameplay, but in general, longer maps have more potential to either be brilliant or horrible, which is a risk i'm quite willing to take.

I prefer anything from 400-1200. For a highscoring perspective, anything under 400 is too easy to perfect, and anything above 1500 is really difficult to get close to the max. So I guess that would actually be 400-1600.

Condog, atob, and lord_day have the right idea. There are some great short maps out there, and there are some great long ones. It depends a lot on the map itself and how it is played.

Speedrunning: about 400-800 frames
Highscoring: about 900-1200 frames

Map lengths vary with specific types, but for the general action map you find on NUMA, my favourites range from 1000-2000 frames.

Varies, as probably expected from me. Depends on what mood I'm in, what kind of map I'm playing, the basic difficulty of the map, you know, stuff like that.

That being said, 1-4000 frames.

Same here. I remember one jump-only map that had various submitted 19000+ frame demos for and it was rated 5/5 by, like, twenty-five people.

I've played some adventure maps that last 3000+ frames and I"ve played some good ~1000 frame maps. It just depends on other factors: does the map keep you playing?

I like short maps that are <400 frames, medium maps ~ 1600-2400 frames or long maps 5000+ frames.

It really depends on the map.
Puzzle map? 1000 frames
Micro map? <300 frames
Minejumper? 3000 frames
Action? ~2000 frames

And even that can be broken down further.
Action concept? <1000 frames
Action difficult? >1800 frames.

I like long maps like the ones Sendy makes the best, so I picked the largest option.
