This is a let's-try-this-and-see-what-happens kind of thing, but I think it'll go pretty well.

Here's the idea:
I make a small portion of a map and post it here, via the "" tags. Then, another forum goer jumps in and adds a bit more to the original map, then re-posts the new level data. After which, someone else jumps in, adds to the map, etc. We will be using the dibs system, explained within. [spoiler=The Nitty Gritty (click)][size=125][color=#FFBF00][font=Copperplate]So, you want to contribute:[/font][/color][/size] If no one has already called dibs on editing, post here saying you're up next. This tells other people not to start editing the data that [b]you[/b] are about to add to. The previous contributor should have posted his NUMA username along with the map data. Once you're done editing, add your NUMA username to the list (or your Forums name if you don't have one) and post the new map data in a new post, or into your original dibs post if no one else has posted. (being sure to include the contributor list) [size=125][color=#FFBF00][font=Copperplate](Map contributions submitted without prior warning/notice (e.g. a dibs post) will be ignored.)[/font][/color][/size] This system continues until either: a. The potential contributor can't think of anything to add, or b. The potential contributor decides that the map is best left as is, and anything that he/she might add would detract from the gameplay/atmosphere, restrict the playability, etc. If the potential contributor, after posting his dibs, decides that either a. or b. is true (please use your best judgement), he/she will simply edit his/her post saying so, [color=#FFBF00]but will not post the new map data[/color]. Instead, he/she will PM the final map to the map starter, who will post the finished map on NUMA, making sure to disable ratings and to credit everyone listed in the "contributors list." For added fun, the map starter won't play-test it first and just post it to NUMA blindly. Then, he will post a NUMA link to the map here. [b]Now, here's the cool part.[/b] Once that map is finished and submitted, [i]anyone[/i] can start up the next map. (try not to do it more than once unless everyone interested has gone.) [size=150][color=#FFBF00][font=Copperplate]Things to remember:[/font][/color][/size] • Make sure you post your dibs to make sure that everyone knows you're next • Try not to post dibs unless you know you have the time to contribute. (in an effort to cut down on the waiting time) • DO NOT alter what is already in the map, you are simply adding on to it. • Don't hog the map. There's only so much space, give others a chance. (On the flip side, don't just add a single mine or something) • Add your name to the contributors list placed before the map data to be sure that you'll be credited for your work [color=#FFBF00]If you, the potential contributor, decide that a. or b. is true:[/color] • DON'T post the new data in this thread, PM it to the map starter. [color=#FFBF00]MAP STARTERS/POSTERS:[/color] • Disable ratings when you post! You will be banned from contributing if you don't! • Make sure to check your PMs for the final map. • Post a NUMA link to the map here once you've submitted it.[/spoiler] If there's enough interest, [color=#FFBF00]I'll start it off.[/color] Feel free to make suggestions or ask questions. you could start a new account, call it SUPER_COLLAB123 or something, and put all the finished maps on there perhaps.

I'll be second, but just to clarify, you'll post a map, and the next-in-line adds a bit and pms you the data? it would make more sense to add it here, to see the progress made.

Here's the play by play:

The map starter, (which will be me the first time around) posts the first part of the map, like this:

Contributors: heatwave21, 110110010110111.... (level data)

Contributor A posts saying he's next, then re-posts the new level data when he's done in the same format, adding his name to the list. Then, COntributor B posts, etc.

***The only time you PM the map data to the map starter is when the potential contributor decides the map is finished.***

If the map is unfinished and still being worked on, the new data is posted here.

If you need ideas as to how to run this thing, check out Jakel's Mission 2.04 on the old forums. This seems like a pretty similar idea. I might participate if this gets going, as Mission 2.04 was pretty fun back in the day.

Fortunately, this is a bit different. Unlike Mission 2.04, there are no teams. There is only one map being actively worked on at a time, and anyone can contribute.

Also: you can contribute more than once on a single map, but you can't go twice in a row. (duh)

by the way, should there be any terms like "no deleting ideas" or "one item at a time"? i think it would definately be a good thing to clarify that there are going to be a lot of people working on a single map, so minimalism in additions is advised. assuming that is the case.

Ah, but that's just it. There is no signup. This'll kinda work like the 'edit the box' game on the old forums, in that there is no structured list somewhere written in stone that states the exact order of contributors. If you notice that no one has called dibs, jump in and participate.

These two points were in the 'things to remember' part of my first post. Is this what you mean?

You're right though, minimalism (in terms of your particular addition) is key.

I suppose I'll start this off then. Since I'm starting the map, I'll post it when it's finished.
