N v1.5 Poll: Platform

When N was first released, the Flash player wasn't fast enough for it to run smoothly in a browser; also, web-based games were much less popular and sites such as Kongregate/etc. didn't exist. These days, it seems like a lot of people don't mind, or even enjoy, playing their games in a browser rather than as stand-alone programs.
Since we have no idea where everyone stands on this, we figured we'd ask :)

Stand-alone.
I love sticking N on a USB and taking it everywhere.

Stand Alone. In-browser games are for RPG's and /short/ flash games.

I'd go for both, but if it's an either/or then standalone.

I think stand-alone is the best for something like this.

Stand Alone. No question about it. N is too awesome to be stuck in browser.

I think that making it browser limits the amount of people who can play it (to people with fast Internet connections). Downloading the program as worked for the past 6 years, no need to change it. But, Unreality talked about getting NReality integrated into Facebook, which I would support fully. That would bring the two things I use most together. Like a wedding, but with technology.

Both would seem like the best course of action, but due to my obscenely limited amount of technical knowledge with such things, I'm not sure how difficult that'd be. Browser based games seem to get more exposure, since more people visit sites like Kongregate, etc. etc., so I think that that's a viable option. But having it be standalone is, as far as I know, better for performance, and for accessibility, for reasons that Inspired up there has stated, and for many others.

I'm with the overwhelming majority here. Actually, can you even call it a majority if there's no minority? In that case, I'm with everyone else. Stand-alone is the way to go.

I believe standalone offers more to the player than in-browser does. For example, clearing cookies/cache/history could mean deleting all your N data unless you were to implement a login system and store player information on your server.

I appreciate having something to do when the internet goes down. By something, of course, I mean N.

You're gonna get an almost unanimous "Standalone."
I don't really see any detriments to it, with the exception of having to "Install," and the fact that the browser-only version would probably spread like wildfire, and you'd be able to get it put up on sites where v1.2 is still floating around.

Standalone. Put up a browser version if you want, but unless browser based was the only option I'd be keeping it on a flash drive.

It could quite easily be played on both, I think. But if it were on Kongregate or a similar site, I'd much rather have the achievements interfacing with a standalone program because it's easier (and N is so substantial anyway).

Standalone. I'd rather have N as a last resort if my internet goes up the swany. Plus, designing maps outdoors is great fun.

Has to be stand-alone for me. If I had a pound for everytime I played n without internet, I would have a lot of pounds. A /lot/.

I'm sure most here would like standalone, but to increase popularity, browser-based might just be a better idea.

In terms of popularity, I wonder if you'd want to have a preview browser-version that also links to the full freeware standalone program download. Is that kind of thing a dick move? I don't even remember any more. Between one and the other, like faemir said, standalone is definitely the better option I'm pretty sure.

VVVVVV's done that on Kongregate, plus it's charging a tenner. I don't see why not. You could have like the first new column [/heavy presuming] available or something.

As I think the poll has shown, a standalone version is definitely required. But that doesn't mean you couldn't have both a standalone and a browser version.

I'd support having both, it would definitely promote the game. You could throw it up on armor games or kongregate or something.
