Either into another .gif or a .swf file of that size?

Seems to be impossible while retaining any level of decent quality. This is one of the first .gifs I've made, so I've probably missed some important optimizations during the actual design process.

Anyone have an idea?

Hmmm. It's pretty highly detailed and had a lot of frames. I think you'd have to compromise a lot to cut it down that far.

Figured. I'm messing about with lossy formats and stuff in PS, but the smallest I can get it is around 50 with it looking like crap.

Was hoping someone might have known a magic trick or two...

Well, you could probably eliminate the first sequence, that is, the white moving to the right across the black, and just have it start being all white and the white moving left to reveal those things. But I'm not sure how much that would really help you.

Tried that.

Got it down to 300kb or so with full quality. 50% lossy and half colour = 90kb and it looks awful.

I think I'm going to admit defeat with this one, I didn't realise just how large it was going to be.

Animated GIFs are large. I got it down to 242kb

I made it for a friend. It's a recruitment banner for their guild for the main site of the game. 25kb is the restriction. Just had a look through the other guild banners and they're all pretty dire.

I've settled on this, it's the best I can do using the file size and the design she wants:

That's a very decent compromise.

Yeh, it'll certainly do. Was a good learning process too.



Using a minimalistic style and a much lower colour count, I made one for our own guild that's half the desired size and a lot tidier (even though it's very basic).

I think this'll be the route from now on. Minimalist as possible.

Now I have to know what this is for.
