when you see an underscore between something that is not a word, you should generally take it to be a smiley. In "x_x" the x's represent eyes, and since they came after the line "too bright!" I assume they were meant to show the closest thing that represented looking at something too bright.
Such is the case with ;_; and o_O and ._. and T_T but they all have different meanings. You should probably go on IRC more. People tend to use those a lot more there. Or just kinda... gauge the context in which the smileys are being used.
Your images are too sharp. As compared to your images being smooth. I dunno, you figure it out.

eehhh.... damn. I hate repeating myself so often.
I'd suggest looking through some tutorials for your image program. If you use GIMP or Photoshop
http://www.deviantart.com has some great brushes. Just look in the Resources section, found in the menu on the left-hand side. Experiment with colors and filter effects, and again, you seem like the kind of person who would benefit more from tutorials than through experimenting, though I still think experimenting is one of the best ways to learn. Play around with brushes, we'll leave renders until a couple months from now, as they are harder to work with than brushes are.
