You should look up more tutorials and find a style that you're comfortable with. Then you should branch out and play around with settings. That's how most of us got better, I think.

Eiturlyf, at least say something like "QFE" instead of just quoting text.

I agree with what Izzy has said but I also disagree. I have only looked at rocket_thumped's tutorial for vector art and even then I never put that to use, all it really did was help me understand what the Pen tool in Photoshop can be used for.

Playing around with whatever graphic imaging program you have is what I recommend, though tutorials seem to do you very well. Maybe a blend of both? I think that's what Izzy is suggesting basically.
