I get bored at school sometimes, and this is what results.

I just took a picture and messed with it in an attempt to make it look like a very old photograph.

That's really cool. I like the contrast of a modern setting and the photograph being manipulated to look as if it was taken during the late 19th century.

Very well done.
You might also consider putting substantially more cracks and other physical damage on the sides and corners, or maybe a nice big fold right down the center.

Yeah, i'm actually not yet done with it. I was thinking of trying to give it worn out edges(though that'll be very hard for me)

But I see what you mean how it could use more "damage". I'll see what I can do.

Nice. Like Tunco said, the left part's good, it gives off an old vibe.

So I should work on the right side a little more?

Nah, it's ok. What I meant is left side is better than the right side, literally, both of them are good. ;)
You could do what Tsukatu said, imo.

The whole image feels a little too bright. But apart from that, you had me fooled until I read your comment.

The pic looks a little too sharp. To me, that gave it away.

I played with the levels a bit and blurred the background and came out with the following. Not sure if that's an improvement in terms of lighting and sharpness. I don't want to take it any farther than this because then it starts to look off.

Also gave it a more sepia feel to it.

Now to get working on more wear and tear. :)

Edit: Never mind the upload, here's the same version with the center crease.

The crack between the middle one and the light looks unnatural. The corners must be white, and rounded to look more realistic. Also, the right corners look like... detached cellophane, to put it that way.

Not exactly sure how i would fix an unnatural crease considering that most creases aren't natural to begin with(unless you have a different meaning behind unnatural). And about the "cellophane" thing, you're gonna have to blame the stock on that one. That was there to begin with.(It's a glare from the light.)

About the corners, you're gonna have to give a better example. The image that came to mind looked rather... unrealistic.

I do understand that this doesn't look right with out the torn and degrading edges and corners most photo's have. Until I actually figure out a way to pull that off, It'll just have to stay that way.

Keep in mind I've been using CS4 for a total of 2 1/2 weeks. There's a ton I don't yet know

How is CS4? At school I do a bunch of work in CS3, and we were going to upgrade to CS4, but apparently it had bugs or was unpolished or something. I specifically use InDesign though, and I'm guessing you were using the Photoshop section, but it'd be cool if you could give me an opinion.

About the pic; I think the original looked really cool, with regard to art, not how old it was. The next few made it look older, but not as eye-catching.

As for CS4, It has the feel of CS3 in the way it looks, but features are smoother and layers panel has been improved. I know there's been more changes that I have yet to figure out. Although I think there have been a few filters removed. Not sure. I personally like the feel of this a lot better than I did CS3, though.

Gimp's "Old Photo" setting: http://i36.tinypic.com/34smcgh.jpg
My mega-tweaked version: http://i38.tinypic.com/9aps7q.jpg

How would I add cracks and creases in Gimp? This would be very cool with them. Maybe a water stain too.

The way i did it? 20 layers and a stock of damaged photo paper which you can copy the cracks off of. With a bit of editing, you can make it fit. and I'd say when you blur the photo, don't also blur the damage and wear. That just makes the entire thing look unfocused. only blur the base photo and once you get in all the cracks, scratches, and such into it, copy visible(gimps version of Copy Merged), paste it on a new layer, then apply the Old Photo setting.

Orange- N cannot be spoken, or even thought about in my household. If my parents ever found out that I have played N since the cleansing, my life would be ruined. I keep the game in a multi-passworded .rar on a USB flash drive inside a locked boron alloy container that requires two keys to open (I keep one under the 64th hammer in my piano, and the other one in a small section of removable ceiling in the corner of the attic) hidden in a wall compartment lined with aluminium foil to prevent sonar detection behind my 375 kg cupboard, which is bolted to the floor - the only way to reach it is to abseil outside the fourth floor window and use a screwdriver to unfasten the screws holding the secret brick in place on the opposite side of the wall, but the screwdriver must be a specific type like the one I own, since if any other screwdriver comes into contact with the screws, the entire building will explode, as will a seperate charge placed inside the boron alloy container, rendering the USB useless. Even once the container is retrieved, attemping to open it without the arming pin in place (which is kept inside the battery compartment of my Maglite) will cause the water reservoirs lining the container to burst and react with the caesium lining, causing the container to burst into flames - the only way to prevent this is to use the arming pins to shut off the reservoirs with a sliding steel door. The USB itself contains an accelerometer linked to an explosive charge, meaning that if the USB detects its own movement speed as being greater than 5 cm/s, it will explode - any person attempting to steal it would have to move at a uselessly slow speed. Once plugged into a computer, the USB will upload a ghost virus onto it, leaving no traces. Only the right password can deactivate this virus, and if it is left on the computer for more than six hours, it will format all drives.

As you can see, I take my N playing very seriously.

Guiseppi- I'd much rather watch animals get boned in the ass.

Yanni- If it's glad, it's not rape.

Tsukatu- I refuse to use throw-away bags for such a frequent purpose as buying groceries. Instead, I've collected the hair of my two pet dogs and have woven them together into an all-natural, 100% environmentally friendly bag that I bring with me everywhere. And when I buy products that come in glass and plastic containers, I track down the company that packages them and ship back their containers so that they don't take up space in landfills.

Yeah, I use plastic.

Tsukatu- I hear Ebony Online is great, too. Cum save your princess, my lord!

Ska- UR MUM LIKE IS SPICY

Ska- why d i get the feeling what i typed will end up in the quote depository; or worse: someone's sig.

KinGAleX- I did it on the couch a little while ago.

Zeph- I got too pissed at the knife in the end so I just broke the wood on my knee
